Alright Top Gear fans, this thread is for you! (There probably arent a whole lot of us here, but whatever)

Post what you like and why. Whether its your favorite episode, car, presenter, or whatever. I guess I'll start this baby off.

So far, as I live in america and can only watch Top Gear on BBC America and therefore have only seen the British version, my favorite episodes are the first and last episodes of season 10. "The Search for Driving Heaven" introduced me to my dream car the Porshe 911 GT3 RS. The Botswana episode is what got me into the series as I found the episode extremely funny, I especially like Hammonds Opal Cadet. My favorite recent episode is the Vietnam episode, I cant really explain why though.

As far as the hosts go, my favorite is Jeremy Clarkson. I like the way he presents and reviews cars and his poor choice in used cars to be hillarious.

Just for the record, the British version is the only version.
And it's an awesome show. I'm not that big into cars but i love the banter. And the challenges. The first episode i actually watched they had to by old cars for less than £100. It was great!

I know there isnt just the British version, there is an australian one, a russian one, a german one, and there was supposed to be a U.S version but NBC dropped the idea. Damn You NBC!

I dunno, part of the fun of the british one is the fellowship the presenters share. I'm not sure how well they could emulate that on an American edition.

Oh, and the BBC isn't beholden to advertisers, so they be as scathing as they want witout reprocussions. whereas, here, I'm not sure it would work as well.

Plus, I <3 James may. :)

Don't mention the Australian one. I refuse to accept that as a real show, and from my country, too! Bah!

Yep, I'd hate an american top gear, the reason I watch the show is because of the fantastic co-hosts with their stupidity and friendship, and the cars are also cool. Making an american version would add this laundry list to the host requirements:
1.) the Crazy eccentric (The main one)
2.) The sciencey guy (Who is the crazy's friend and is forced to sound sciencey and boring)
3.) The sexy, but oblivious, girl added to pull in any uninterested viewers.

Does anyone know who the Stig really is? After seeing the episode where they went to the race with their old BMW, I'm really curious as to how good this guy really is...

Its doubtful that its one guy, its an assortment of different professional drivers. My theory is that half the time its Michael Schumacher the other half of the time its Lewis Hamilton or a bunch of different rally drivers. Secretely i want it to be James May.
lol, thats the ultimate irony. I dont know if Captain Slow really could be the stig though, do you think its possible for him to go fast enough?

His identity is kept a secret so car companies don't try to bribe him.
It's apparently in his contract that if his identity is revealed he will be fired and a new Stig will be hired, just like what happened to the first Stig.

Trying to export Top Gear is silly really, it's only as brilliant as it is because of its hosts, it could never work with other people.

My favorite episode is the first US one where they nearly got lynched by some 'good ole boys' after painting inflammitory slogans on each others cars.

It is not that big a secret.

Ben Collins is currently the Stig.

Ah top gear, my favorite tv show!

Best episode has to be the one where they go caravanning, scripted or not, that was just hilarious! Also the focus review from last series was excellent.

why top gear is awesome:

1: james "captain slow" may (he is just plain funny)
2: Hammond and jeremy are always arguing
3: jeremy clarkson is just great can't explain it

I think the presentors and humor make this show great but also the challenges and the stig etc. create some extra effect

my favorite epsiode must be the namibia challenge (i think) but there are sooo many great episodes, that this was a hard decision.

ow and the cars of course :D

badgers go away!!!

ps: even though they set up some stuff it is still great :p

I like when they modify cars to do ridiculous things the best, my favorite car is the Zonda, and my favorite moment on the show is on the cool wall when Jeremy sets out to prove that he can tell what car someone drives by looking at their shoos, sees James May's shoos and proclaims, "Oh my god what kind of idiot is this!"

I don't know a thing about cars except that they get me to places, but Top Gear is a car show worth watching. The Stig is my favorite of course.

All 3 times that I've tried to watch this show, Jeremy Clarkson would say something unbelievably racist in front of the live audience and then desperately try to take it back as he saw everyone's smiles freeze. What a ****.

Thank the lord NBC dropped it, i live in australia and it had about 5 episodes before it was cancelled...it was horrible, they tried to copy it way to much and it just failed. Be glad you never caught a glimpse of how badly others can butcher something so great.

EDIT: as for my fave ep? probably when hammond and may send the reliant robbin into space...or atleast, they try to :p

The thing about Top Gear that makes it so brilliant is that you don't even need to be much of a car enthusiast to enjoy it. The best reasons to watch it are the crazy challenges and Jeremy's "Some say..." monologues about The Stig.

Some say that after making love, he bites the head off his partner. And that he's had to give up binge drinking now that it's gone to one pound eighteen to a litre. All we know is, he's called The Stig.
