In the era of 1001 possible RPGs to choose from, why should I buy this game? Trying to find a new RPG to play.
Please don't try to make this into a "what defines an RPG thread," as that is single-handedly the most annoying, utterly irrelevant debate you can possibly have regarding gaming in general.DazZ. said:When you say RPG, be aware this is an ARPG, the story of Torchlight II will not be important in the slightest, you will not get dialogue options and roleplaying will be at an all time minimum. It's a dungeon crawler, but a tremendously good one.
I find it better than Diablo 3, but you could also check out the newly released free to play Path of Exile, which all you can buy in that game with real money is pets and things to make your skills different colours (a few other things but nothing that gives you even a slight advantage).
I prefer Torchlight 2 though.
More importantly, there's a demo, play it. Don't let a bunch of internet strangers who don't know your tastes decide if you should buy it or not.
Couldn't care less about what defines an RPG, and never said Torchlight wasn't an RPG. I do however care about someone who is used to more traditional RPGs looking for a similar experience and getting something different. Just giving the dude a heads up. I think spending monies on a game you thought was something else would be more annoying than what forum dwellers post in your thread, so the good outweighs the bad.Christopher Fisher said:Please don't try to make this into a "what defines an RPG thread," as that is single-handedly the most annoying, utterly irrelevant debate you can possibly have regarding gaming in general.
Or you could play Torchlight 2 AND Path of Exile (AND Titan Quest, while we're at it). Not trying to knock you or anything. I just see a lot of people act like you can only like one game in this genre (I don't think you were doing that, by the way).Christopher Fisher said:You could always play Diablo 3 or Path of Exile, but neither of them really get it down as well as Torchlight 2.
