I was pretty fond of empire and napoleon wasn't too shabby. one way they could make all campaigns umpteen billion times better is remove the AI's compulsion to declare war on you for no other reason than that you're doing well.

reasons like that are why I hated medieval 2 so intensely. I suppose Rome could be fun, but I want them to do what Empire did and expand the map beyond europe.

I'm just glad they're moving away from gunpowder again.

So excited to find out what it'll be!
Its got a bloody long way to go before they've got away from gunpoweder being dominat in western warfare, another 200ish years.

Just look at how much sand is still left in the hourglass. I'd say that at most, 1/5 has fallen through so far.

Maybe they'll throw everyone for a loop and make Spartan: Total Warrior 2.
Oh god I hope so. I was playing that the other day and personally I think Ares is much better in that game than any other including God of War.

Also looking forward to Rome Total War 2. Although Id like any Total War that was as good as Medievil 2.

Basically, the hourglass is counting back from 2010 and where it finishes is presumably the era where the next TW is set. Where do you think it will end up?

I personally think it'll be Rome 2.

Also, to add some more discussion value, what do you want to see in the next part of the series?
Time for a new Shogun Total Wars AMIRITE!!!

Easily my favorite of the bunch :) Although i wish it had a larger scope, ala Rome

Also guys, the first gunpowder weapons to be used as the Chinese in the 11 century. We have a WHILE.

Of course, it wasnt commonly used for a while after that, so Ill cut some slack :)

If their going backwards to a time before Empire and Nepoleon then I'd be very disapointed. The series is best when it continues forward.

For me, I'm hoping ancient China, specifically 5th to 3rd century BC and the Warring States era. Iron begins to replace bronze, no real unifying leader, lots of historical wars and conflicts etc.

I meant that they move away from gunpowder-based warfare. I want to have epic melee battles.

Also, I demand proper sieges to return. I hated the fort sieges, I want to bombard the city and have bloody battles in the streets.

TOTAL WAR: WWI - WWII maybe dunno tho!
We're almost 100 years past that time already....please at least look at the countdown before posting. Although I do agree that that would be interesting, at least WWI. WWII not so much because the air force becomes too important.

Disagree with that.
1. It's moving into more familiar, modern history. I always kinda liked being able to read and learn stuff and seeing all the different types of things.
2. More modern is more uniform. Start to see it Empires, Line Infantry, for every major nation (well the traditional major players, England, France etc. ). Less variety in a nation, and less variety between nations.
3. I was soooo much better at battles without guns! I'm getting good with naval battles (which I love to watch), but for land battles? Auto is better than I am! In Rome and Medieval I could win battles Auto would have me lose badly. Ok, I guess that's partly the AI, but I just couldn't do guns well.

Not to say I didn't like Empires, the scope, the ability to recruit in the field, spreading the cities out and the technology map! Loved those. And the duels! Those, with two people who couldn't actually fight, those little videos were brilliant.

Yes they are. And no. The series mechanics cant handle modern/futuristic warfare. I say lets go back to japan, Shogun 2.

WWI really is the limit for this type of game. From WWII onward you're not going to find huge numbers of people marching in formations and there's air force to be taken into account, too. Also, there would be no melee battles anymore.

I dont see how they will handle the faster firing weapons that started to become aviable in the 1800's, regiments would be chewed up in seconds.
Empire is my favourite of the bunch, Total war 2 was fun, but the pace of it annoyed me and the Meele battles often turned into a grind, unless you really outnumbered the enemy. I liked the fact that you had to trade off between range and meele, and doing so at the right time was vital. Also getting a strong econmy and army going is much easier in Empire, in Total War a few units of kights would bankraupt you, and you often spent more on city garrisons than the citys gave you in taxes, even with all the improvements
