I feel like Blizzard just kicked me in a very soft spot. This is total fan service that Blizzard didn't need. I've been a huge fan of Glynnis Talkin ever since she did the voice of Julie Winters in The Maxx Animated Series. To have Blizzard kick her to the curb after a decade of contributions, just to have someone more recognizable and famous take her place, stinks! It'll take alot more than a blonde sci-fi tart to get me interested in this game again.
I'm pretty sure that Blizzard isn't targeting you as a customer with this move ;)

I don't usually go for blonds, but sometimes, i watch BSG on mute. Just sayin. ;)

OT, she does have a good voice, and if she can pull off the voice acting thing, then why not? They could have changed actresses due to the fact that it's been 10 years. Voices change as you age, and maybe hers wasn't striking the chord they wanted?

STOP MESSING WITH MY DELUSIONS!!! *LOL*

My point was that I think this move could possibly negatively affect long-time Blizzard fans, myself included. If they had recast all or most of the original voices, I could accept that. Game series must grow and adapt to entice a newer generation. But Helfer is simply being used as an unnecessary figurehead to promote their game. And I agree with your point, since it's so easy to sway dumb, hormonally-challenged fan geeks with a pretty face and body, but come on. Is Blizzard REALLY expecting a dramatic increase of sales with this stunt?

Ah. Tricia Helfer...such a wonderful face for voice acting.

Seriously? They replace the standard and accepted voice for Kerrigan with a publicity stunt? I have no problem with Miss Helfer, but it's just dumb.

It does kind of smell them replacing the original actress, but I do like the replacement, Tricia's voice is quite sexy, and will even be more awesome when it's edited for the mutation effect. Makes sense to think Activision is meddling, Kotick openly admitted his interest in Starcraft 2. Hopefully this is the most he does(if this is his touch). -crosses fingers-
Bobby, don't stick your dick in the Blizzard pudding! PLEASE

I we should wait for ODST to come out before we start to criticise Miss Helfer's voice acting abilities.

I don't get it...

Everyone is up in arms because a voice actor changed? Surely everyone should be more interested in the actual gameplay.

There Is No God!!!

Why don't they just add in FMVs and replase every character with sassy supermodels!

Its like they remade The Star Wars trilogy with original cast but starred William Shatner as Kenoby.

But you know, in a bad way.

Starcraft always had good story and the pre-mission briefings which were entirely made up of dialogue contributed a lot to that. If a voice actor is less good than it can be, it directly affects how much you enjoy the story. There's no doubt that there'll be a few 'Purists' who hate her just because she's not Talken and some which dislike Helfer because, in their (possibly valid) opinion, think she did a worse job than Talken would have.

Personally, I didn't know who she was. I'd played C&C3 but I never associated name-to-face. I may have to reinstall the game to get evidence of her work to see what I can expect but...well, I'll probably just end up playing for GDI and enjoying Jennfier Morrison instead.

She can voice act; she plays the Naval Intelligence officer Dare in Halo: ODST and, from the snippets of her performances I've heard, holds up well playing against Nathan ("Mal Reynolds/Richard Castle") Fillion.
Hold up, Mal Reynolds is in ODST? Now I have to buy that game.

Yup, along with Adam ("Jayne") Baldwin and Alan ("Wash") Tudyk. Apparently a lot of Halo got played on the set of Firefly...

More to the point of the news item, I've seen a lot of roles played by Tricia Helfer and I can't fault her acting skills; she did a dead-on Farrah Fawcett-Majors, played a character with PTSD very convincingly, had a marvellous recurring role on Burn Notice as the psycho-***** manipulative handler who took over Micheal Weston's life... she's much more than a pretty face. I think if you can set aside that she's not Talken, you won't be disappointed with her as Kerrigan.

/facepalm

It looks like it's inevitable. Gaming is becoming the new Hollywood. Say goodbye to good games, and welcome the flashy CGIs, publicity stunts, aggressive marketing and stories with no meaning.

I need to get another hobby, gaming is tainted now.

If she can muster the role of a seductress who stabs people and commands legions of zerg, I think it will work. But who's going to Duran? Will he even be in the game? I hope so. And I hope he's voiced by Samuel Jackson. :D
this comment actually explains a lot. replace 'zerg' with 'cylon' and you've got six from battlestar galactica.

also i would love Samuel L Jackson.

She's one of the better models turned actress. She has had some less than steller roles before. She did some pseudo-comedy where she played a Dominatrix helping her sister who had a tendency to get into unlikely amounts of trouble ("Walk All Over Me" or something like that). It was barely hitting the 'okay' mark and truthfully it's the kind of role you'd expect her to excel at .

Truthfully we haven't heard the full story involved in the casting choice, while it does superficially reek, we do not know if the original actress was pushing for more money or something at the time this all went down.

Voice Work is also differant than performing for video (and I believe her CC bits were video) so while I'm sure she'll do okay, and Blizzard has high standards, it's still a craps shoot.

The risks involved (despite the name) definatly make me think there are probably money issues involved somewhere.

Oh my God.

Number Six is voicing Sarah Kerrigan. :O

This is officially the greatest news I've heard this week since that 'Use the Force' EEG toy.
Very true!

I love Battlestar a shit ton, but that is no reason to replace the original Kerrigan. It all just seems so unnecessary.
