The worst thing: A penny.
I remember ringing the doorbell to this one particularly big house, and an stiff , scowling, old woman answered the door. I even remember what she was wearing. A knit pink cardigan and gray tweed long skirt. I could see all the crucifixes in the background and she was playing some holy, God-like, music. She didn't look all that pleased to see me, or my parents, but gave me a penny. Then slammed the door on us. Not one smile was given. Not even a small one. I don't even know why she bothered to keep her lights on, or even answer the door in the first place if she was so angry about it all.
Best thing: Half a large bag of caramel green apple lollipops.
It was getting pretty late and that house had all this candy left and just handed it over to me. They explained that they were tired and couldn't be bothered to keep answering the door to the older kids who were usually late-comers. They then closed the door on my glee, and shut off their lights.
