So, I found this site today. There's a button, and when you click it, your click gets added to the total number of clicks. The website claims that something 'big' will happen when it hits a trillion. Since this is somewhat like the contest they had a while ago with people chizling at a sphere or...something, I figured it was worth talking about. Here's the link for anyone that's interested: http://www.trillionclicks.com/

So. Anyone want to take a guess at what the surprise is? Besides 'nothing', of course.

I don't know... I remember back before the 2012 Apocalypse, there was this site related to Zelda: Majoras Mask, counting down to the end. But, when the timer stopped... nothing happened and then the site wasn't available anymore. I don't expect much from this either.

I dunno...I sense another Fallout-esque prank. I also don't want to risk giving myself some kind of muscle cramp before I have to work tomorrow.

This is like Cookie Clicker but without the incentive of getting mo' cookies and enforcing the slave labour of demonic grandmas.

..Did that sentence make sense? Good? Good.

It'll probably be something stupid like "Congratulations! Now shoot for 2 trillion!"

Oh well, I spent a minute turbo-clicking, that's my good deed for the day done :p

I sense treachery, I'm not touching that thing. Besides, I don't work for free (or for some vague promise of "something" happening).

Best case scenario? You'll get a gif of a dancing cat or whatever upon reaching that trillion mark. Worst case? Your clicks are being used to charge up some sort of doomsday device (one trillion equals 100% power). An ultimate practical joke, if you will.

Oh gods.

opens cookie clicker, sees new updates

LOOK AT WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!

Now I'll never go to sleep.

In all seriousness it isn't that hard, for example in cookie clicker I made a mouse macro that caused meant that one mouse click was the equivalent to 50.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to increase my production.

Another click-a-thon like Cookie Clicker, no thanks, I already lost an embarrasing amount of time to cookie clicker, I don't need to lose more, plus I doubt anything substantial will happen if it gets to one trillion anyway.

What could possibly happen? Make Half Life 3 come out?

You know you miss that game terribly. Go on, give it a few clicks. A few clicks can't hurt.

OT: Eh, I don't really care. Gave it 200 clicks anyway. Someone tell me when they finally make and what happens.

So when I sit there and watch the counter go up, it goes up a steady, slow, but constant pace until I click. Seems strange.

Also, one trillion is a huge number. Even clicking 50 clicks a second, every second of every day it would take a long, long time.

Math isn't my strong point, but I think it would be something like this:

50 clicks a second for 24 hours = 4,320,000
4.32m per day for a week = 30,240,000

Good luck with that.

After one trillion clicks

GET FREE APPLE iPAD! Just share this email with 30 of your friends and you too can have your very own free apple iPad!

Also one trillion clicks too please.

I dunno it smells like some stupid thing that'll either be "you wasted your time" or some cliche pyramid scheme.....or Old Spice.

I ran an autoclicker script and fired off 10,000 clicks.

It didn't update in real time. I wonder if the clicks are even real.

Pretty sure it's impossible. It was going at less than 20 clicks per second when I looked, and running a quick (and overly generous) calculation tells me it'll take about 1600 years.

If every person on earth clicks a 100 times, we'll still not be there. This is extrenely improbable.

I don't know... Maybe the website would try to get itself on the Guinness [Book of] World Records list for most openly reported clicks on a single section of a website...

Either way, I can't be bothered to join this kind of "revolution" without knowing it's full/true benefits... even if it does turns out to be a "blatant lie" in the long run... It's like Wonder wondering what was in that damn box the whole time...

Dunno - it doesn't seem terribly well protected, though - essentially I just did

Code:
setInterval(function() {jQuery("#butt").click();}, 250 );
and I was able to start generating 4 clicks per second (one every 250 milliseconds). Seems I can't do more than that but I can't be bothered to check why - if I have a lower interval (I tried 10ms first) it just doesn't register all of them. I would assume it probably just can't handle all the requests or something.

Sill, even if I move at this pace, it would take me a lot of time to generate all by my own. The counter is currently at ~126 700 000. Even if we just round this up to 127 million it still takes quite a while

1 000 000 000 000 total clicks - 127 000 000 current clicks = 999873000000 clicks left
999873000000 clicks left / 4 clicks per second = 249968250000 seconds left
249968250000 seconds left / 60 seconds = 4166137500 minutes left
4166137500 minutes left / 60 minutes = 69435625 hours left
69435625 hours left / 24 hours ~ 28931512 days left
And finally, if we convert 28931512 days left into years left, we get 7921 (roughly includes leap years, by the way).

That's with a single PC running, though - if you get two at once that haves the time...to about 3965 years. Adding more computers helps but with each new one, the amount of time reduced also grows smaller.

In conclusion - if I had to guess, I would say the website is meant as a trap to catch bored people with botnets at hand.

I would like to point out, though, that what clicking the button seems to do is just issue a GET request, so it's possible that one can bring down the time drastically by just manually issuing the requests (as opposed to using JavaScript in the browser). I can't be bothered to check, however.

Well, you can set autoclicker to make 20 clicks per seconds. And if you raise several virtual machines you can do several times over. It's not hard at all with few thousand PCs to work with. If you want to dedicate yourself to something this stupid.

Capctcha: move along
Best possible description for this :D

Was that the one that was related to the BEN DROWNED creepypasta? The ARG that followed up the creepypasta used multiple countdowns, and I seem to recall the last one ended basically with nothing, following up with the guy behind it putting it on "hiatus.

setInterval(function() {$.get(location+"insert", 100)});

Works just as well, so yes you could most certainly fire off requests however you like, although theoretically they could have a check that you're coming from the right place, not bothering with that.
