The grounds in my school look really beautiful in the summer, and the old building still looks great.
Also, I guess it was beautiful I'm not sure, but I was on a ferry while the biggest navy ship in the UK sailed in. Seeing all of the navy standing around the ship, and the big crowds in the city waiting to talk to them, I just felt very proud. It was great!

What about close air support from group of AH-64D Apache Longbow gunships.

[small]Angels sang out as heavens opened wide, and down descended a pair of Valkyries armed with 30mm M789 HEDP ammunition and Hydra 70 rockets.[/small]

When shit gets thick, having air support is a godsend.
those are instruments of death! get them out of my beauty thread dammit!

NO U!

You speak about beauty as if it were judged on an absolute scale. Everyone has a different interpretation of beauty, so saying that a work of art is beautiful while an M1A2 Abrams tank isn't, is fairly narrow-minded.

It all depends on the conditions one views something in. When you're in an art gallery looking at paintings, you're more likely to find beauty in it. Put that same painting, say, on a playground and it will lose it sense of beauty. So to the lowly infantryman under fire, the most beautiful thing to them at the time would be the silhouette of an M1A2 Abrams tank or the sound of an AH-64D flying overhead.

Wait, why am I even debating something with someone who got probed for flaming a user and creating a troll thread targeted at another user?

Well yeah, if you think spamming the Lydian mode over again is beautiful then sure.

/nerd

Anyway, I think the music of Between the Buried and Me is beautiful, along with the voice of Hayley Williams.

those things end lives and hence shatter families, they cannot be considered beautiful in anything more than appearances. ive never thought much of so called "art" anyway

beauty [http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/beauty]

?noun,plural-ties.
1. the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).
2. a beautiful person, esp. a woman.
3. a beautiful thing, as a work of art or a building.
4. Often, beauties. something that is beautiful in nature or in some natural or artificial environment.
5. an individually pleasing or beautiful quality; grace; charm: a vivid blue area that is the one real beauty of the painting.
6. Informal. a particular advantage: One of the beauties of this medicine is the freedom from aftereffects.
7. (usually used ironically) something extraordinary: My sunburn was a real beauty.
8. something excellent of its kind: My old car was a beauty.

From Ms. Timotei's description, I would wager that an M1 Abrams coming over the hill (but not a monster!) would qualify as 'beautiful' under definition #1. Possibly also definition #8 as well.

You're trying to objectively claim that something cannot be subjectively beautiful. It doesn't take an English or Philosophy professor to see you're being silly.

Again, your thought of "beauty" is very narrow-minded and is built on the principle that only good things can be beautiful. The beauty of a subject or object is decided by the individual, and telling them otherwise is just plain arrogant.

Exactly how is he spamming? He isn't one of those scale shredders who just plays the scales up and down all day.

I missed the part were I said gory people bits were beautiful (And by the way: they aren't. Something I know from experience and your just guessing at).

But I didn't come here to insult or argue, but explain something, because you didn't read my description: the Tank, as a machine in motion, is beauty. Not when its firing, not when its crush the enemy, but just in motion. You wouldn't believe the elegance a good tank driver can make this thing put out, or the flutter you get in your chest watching one out on maneuvers (Okay, to be fair, that's not so much a feeling as it is the turbine engine beating the air so hard it slightly alters your breathing and heart beat).

In any case, beauty is subjective. And to be fair, most people think lakes/oceans are beautiful, but do you know how many people DROWN out there?

You don't seem to understand what I mean by spamming, I mean all of his songs (pretty much all of them) are written in the Lydian mode, and while it's a nice sound it does get a bit repetetive after a while, so compared to something like Petrucci's solo album, or Marco Sfogli, in my opinion at least, Vai falls short.

For me, one of the most beautiful things is that moment when you wake up, and don't want everything in the world to burn... not something you see though... hmmm... this bears some more thought.

Does it matter what scales he plays in? If you look at his songs from nothing but a technical perspective, then you're missing the point. It's music, not a competition. I don't know much about scales, but I still enjoy it. There's variety that isn't in the sense of scales. For The Love of God, Tender Surrender, The Audience Is Listening, Building The Church, Freak Show Excess. Those are just a few of his unique gems that incorporate different styles.

Really, most of the local ecology. Southern Ontario is so beautiful in the summer. I love camping and hiking and taking pictures. (Although I didn't take that one.)
