Coincidentally, I like the music made by the record label "Strange Music"

Also, Atmosphere is pretty unique

i gots to say Mike Patton...as in Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, and of course Faith No More!
he has other projects but those are my picks.
he covers so many styles of music all on one album
he does a larger variety of vocal styles than anyone else i have EVER heard
you cant really pick one song and "hear" his bands stylings because damn near every song is done in a different style
needless to say if u love MUSIC, i mean really go, "wow im gonna marry my stereo" or something else prophetic, do urself a favor and check this guy out, ur ears will thank you

System of a Down has made some genuinely unique sounds over the years, and they never stick with one thing for very long. Turmion Katilot is another band who definitely does the 'industrial' genre the best in my opinion. They can pull off effects, keyboarding and sampling much better than bands hundreds of times more popular. Crotchduster is a fairly decent band that is incredibly random, yet original. With lots of emphasis on random. Magma's also pretty unique. Um... Yeah.

Ststem of a down:

Turmion Katilot:

Crotchduster:

No link for magma. I'm not a fan. <.<
*reads the first post all the way*
Only 1? Hmmm. I'll go with Turmion Katilot. I'll just... Leave all that there. =D

Ha "5643 Song EP" is nothing if not an original idea.

Also, Dethklok. Their music isn't really original in style, but being an animated band has to get them some points for originality.

I'm kinda surprised Primus hasn't popped up yet

there isn't a single band out there that pulls off what Primus does and everything from Lalonde squealing away to the amazing bass playing of slap god Les Claypool is completely different from anything else I've ever heard in my days
Yeah, when your lead instrument is the bass you know you're doing something a little unusual. My contribution for the topic is John Zorn. The guy plays sax and makes some of the most insane compositions I've ever heard. Check out his "Naked City" album for starters.

ive gotta agree with pink floyd. first off pink floyd is one of the few bands ive heard where the music and lyrics truly coexist. but their instumentals set such a perfect tone (for example, marroned (not spelled right) gives the feeling of islation and just being alone, among other examples like sorrow, comfortably numb, empty spaces and high hopes). their use of choirs and sound effects adds a lot of depth into their music (echoes and breathe for example). overall though i just love the absolutly sublime and thought inspiring nature of their music.

Man Man, aside from their improvised instruments, bizarre songs, and homely appearance, they play pretty modest songs. Yet there's so much warmness in them, that you may think they're part of an old shaman's ritual. Some of their songs are indistinguishable from one another because they're so similar, but that's probably because they're so different from everything else.

Mindless Self Indulgence !?!?
oh and by the way 90% of the music on here sounds really good to me, but house music smothered in samples, while sounding badass for the most part, isnt that original imo. and i love SOAD and Pink Floyd as well, and i already listen to Dilenger Escape Plan.. so grindcore is covered. im kinda hoping for someone to link something that is gonna blow my mind... still waiting, bring it!!!

p.s.s.s.s. i still love you all, so dont hate me 4 being forward or opinionated

Dillinger isn't grindcore at all.

Also Misery Signals, on one hand they are a progressive hardcore band, but they are just unique to any of the other bands in that genre.

Anyway, for all I know there could be millions of bands just like them, but I've not heard of any.
Nah. There are a lot of similar bands, most of them good. God is an Astronaut, Godspeed You!Black Emperor and others. Get lissnin'.

Truly unique..?I guess Nouvelle vague may be. Chanson covers of post-punk hits.

all but the newest Dilinger album is soooo grindcore, but why agrue over a label(who says it means the same to each of us)

Misery Signals kinda sounds like FATA, but not enought to be confused, and i liked it none the less
so yeah lets talk music not semantics, did u check out Mindless Self Indulgence its pretty off the wall, some songs more than others, i like 2 Hookers and an 8-ball...great song

Im not a fan of MSI, there just not for me, I'm not into shock punk.

Misery Signals is Miles Heavier than FATA i dont think anyone could mix them up, there new album Controller is amazing.

I'm pretty sure they would be classed as post rock. While post rock is one of my favorite genres I wouldn't call Explosions that unique, only relative to mainstream - not its genre, but I'm not sure whether they need to be distinct from the genre or hard to label in order to be unique in this thread, so I'll allow it :p. Try God is an Astronaut, Mogwai, Mooncake etc. All that good stuff.

I think Yeasayer has a pretty unique feel. They are experimental, and make me think of somewhere weird - like a cross between old england and the middle east :S.

EDIT: ALso, forgot to mention; Koop does a similar thing with sample clips to form a whole song, but makes jazzy music, like so.

Oh, and I've not found much like DJ Shadow either, he has alot of samples. I couldn't decide which song to show, so I just went with the popular one on youtube. Theres plenty of stuff that might be better IMO, but I haven't listened to it for a while so I forget a bit.

EDIT2: Fuck, while I'm at it, I also find Ratatat incredibly unique and they make good remixes too (I normally hate rap, but I can stand their rap remixes).
