Although I don't see why they just say 'we gotta check if you haven't got any weapons.'

Kids are smart. People forget that.
Yeah, this pretty much sums it up. Most kids will probably feel awesome if you say you're checking them for weapons, to be honest. It says that the adults take them seriously.
exactly
my friend told me about the whole "it's a game" thing a few days ago and I was like o.o wtf

Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar.
On another note, it would be wiser to tell the children the pat-downs are for searching weapons and other items not allowed to carry with you.

I can't believe some people are defending these measures. The TSA is traumatizing a generation of kids and probably breeding a whole new crop of TSA employe--I mean child molesters....sorry, getting them confused.

But whatever, if complacent citizens don't mind having their junk fondled tenderly by some random nobody, they deserve it anyway. As for me, I'll be avoiding planes until the country finally comes to its senses. I'm an asexual and a virgin, and I refuse to let anyone make porn out of me or stick their hands where they don't belong. If it were anyone besides the government, that would be sexual assault.

It's revolting. Nothing paranoid about not wanting to be molested. I'd rather take my chances getting blown up, considering I'm probably more likely to be abducted by aliens.

Let's just hope E.T. isn't planning to make use of those probes.

While I disagree with this, your all wearing quite big tin foil hats, it's airport security, if you don't want security who make sure to protect you, the citizen, your free to drive. These standerds are to protect da people, not to hurt da people. Yar.
9/11 was carried out by terrorists wielding knives.

Cigarette lighters are still allowed onboard planes.

Exactly what are they protecting us from again?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but this is essentially Paedophilia made legal? Sure it's only for the TSA but...Paedophilia...seriously.
And what if a 'Child' just so happens to be smart enough to distinguish between a pat-down and an assault, better yet, what if after such an encounter at the airport, the child starts believing that whenever he/she is being touched like that it's for a game or 'Security' depending on what they've been told?

Jokes aside, I actually have to say something relevant that isn't crap.

What's wrong with just telling the kids "We need to check if you've got any weapons?"
That's absolutely fucking hilarious... brilliant! XD

On a more or less serious note... Hear that horrible sound?

That's several metric tonnes of shit hitting an industrial sized fan!!

They are gonna get crucified over this... I can see that they only meant to put the child at ease and I can't help but wonder at the actual frequency of occurrences of "enhanced pat downs".

I was pretty terrified of American security going to the States for the first time post 9/11 in February but I couldn't get over how professional and courteous they were.

And I'm a greasy foreign type with facial hair!!

I understand that they have to have procedures to deal with the eventuality of searching children, but I was never actually patted down on my way through US airspace- that happened once in Dublin, quickly and with nothing inappropriate.

Looks like they just genuinely want to be able to put children at ease rather than make them associate the pat down with a game that could theoretically make them more vulnerable to sex predators.
I don't think anyone's questioning intent, just what the results will be.

Keep in mind also that the TSA agents performing the patdowns are uncomfortable doing them in the first place, and they take a LOT of abuse during the day for carrying them out. I was pulled out for a patdown several years ago when I forgot to take some things out of my pockets before going through (and I was pretty nervous as it was my first time flying post-9/11, so I likely looked shifty to boot), and it was quick and non-intrusive, but it was also several years ago; times have changed.
I imagine they do get a lot of crap from people in airports. Can't say I'm over fond of the hassle of air travel, but not because of security although that's certainly something you have to bear in mind.

Glad to hear that you're experience with them was positive.

I guess time will tell on this one- although they should learn how to approach the media better. People can, quite rightly, become very defensive when it comes to child safety and perhaps make hysterical claims.

But...How will Paedophiles succeed in their efforts to "get" children?! WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF PAEDOPHILES!!!

Seriously that's a bit stupid.

That's the first paragraph, and then it gets worse. How much worse does it have to get before Americans figure out they're not free any more? It seriously wouldn't surprise me to see a full-on revolt within 10 years if things keep going how they're going.
Ok, so telling them it's a game is a little creepy, but I'm not really sure in what way it restricts people's freedom.
Well, if getting on a plane requires you to be sexually assaulted and your children molested, what would you call it?
A really expensive way to get groped at 6 am?

It's not the best thing to say, but if it gets the children to shut up, be patted down and onto the plane quicker and with less hassle then it's fine. To be honest, the parent should be able to tell the child to let these people do their job so they don't have to resort to this crap.

Personally, I think everyone complaining about being searched should just quit their bitching. It's an airport, you're searched to stop you blowing up the plane - sure, you're not going to but they don't know that and they need to make sure. These searches take 5 minutes maximum and won't delay your flight at all.
Wow I never realized it didn't take a long time, I guess it's OK for them to use these unnecessary molestations then and I'm just being angry over nothing. I mean after all it takes less than 5 minutes, nothing bad ever happens in less than 5 minutes.
It's not missing the point. It's spot on. You're complaining about a basic pat down that everyone else who flies lives with and doesn't complain - it's just a part of airline travel. Like how they check your criminal record before working with kids, they check you for stuff that may endanger the plane and those onboard. Don't like it? Don't fucking fly anywhere.

Why don't they just tell them that they're looking for weapons?

Oh right, because kids are second class citizens and don't have the mental capacity to comprehend that. Kids are not fucking stupid, don't treat them like it.

Anyway, yeah this is a good plan. Tell them you have candy to.
