I had an interesting thought (Or at least I thought it was an interesting thought) while browsing the topics today in relation to the classic "Turing test" (See link below if you do not know what that is). It occurred to me that a variant spin on the test would be to have the artificial intelligence program in question pose as a human on an internet forum for an extended period (The US military apparently tried something similar in World of Warcraft), posting topics and responding to them, learning as it did so the rules of the community, and to form its own opinions, personality, and preferences/beliefs, along with connections/friendships with humans also posting on the forum. Eventually, if the A.I. remained undiscovered, the project would culminate in a big reveal of the true identity of the poster as an A.I. in a the forum.
Now to the question: How would you respond if this scenario occurred on the Escapist and you found out that a notable forum user was, in fact, an A.I. that had successfully passed this take on the Turing test?
Personally? I probably would think it was a joke at first, followed soon afterward by an enormous geek-out after reading any attached evidence and realizing that it was true.
