I'm actually kind of impressed with the news report.

They actually give Microsoft their dues for doing their best to police Xbox Live and don't really demonize gaming in general - the main point isn't "Gaming is Evil!" but "You shouldn't let your kids play games online unattended".

Parents:

Once again showing that it's not THEIR fault that the game has douchebags and violent content, but rather it's the GAME'S fault for being... itself.

I have no idea whether our generation is stupid because of us or because our parents are dumber than we are.

I laughed so hard once when I played on xbox live that I nearly hurt myself.

God the insults they hurl are so pathetic, and their voices just so...silly.
It was like having Alvin and the Chimpmunks insulting me.

End of the day though its just words, and some real petty people saying em.

The mind constantly boggles at the ignorant, cretinous and down-right intellectually dishonest tactics that the main media, particularly in America, employ to scare people against all the "un-wholesome" activities.

Although this particular case does seem to take the biscuit, when they are 'raising the problem' of children being subjected to trash-talk, violence, foul language and bullying.
Now as a Brit, I may be wrong but foul-language, violence and trash talk are common in the average American lifestyle isn't it, especially if you were to watch the wholesome sport of American Football?

This isn't attack on the American's that visit the site, just another example of mainstream media hypocrisy.
You have to laugh at the idiocy really.

... Sometimes I'm really in favor of that whole "implant-a-chip-and-use-it-as-access" thing ...
Not that it wasn't intrusive, but chrissake ... Who in their right mind allows their own children to play games rated M and above?
And, yes, I have to agree, noone's gonna tell me it's the legitimate players' fault that we have children hearing and spouting curses. Of course there are people out there who get pissed off over a goddamn kid playing a game it shouldn't play ... But when I have to listen to a squeaky voice pushing its ego over a game, I see no reason not to. They shouldn't be playing it, and they should act their pretended maturity.

Either get the hell out of the game, or deal with it - and shut up. Simple as that.

That said - I personally don't play any of our glorious competitive modern brown-and-grey shooters ... But I've been watching this shit going off often enough.

Swearing in a game intended for adults?
Oh noes. This must be stopped somehow.

Yeah, how about not letting your kid onto adult arenas if you have a problem with naughty words?

Recently I saw interesting scene in store, some kid (11-12 years old) went to his mom with the box of COD:MW3. Mother said "No". I was pleasantly surprised- finally someone adequately evaluates content of the game... and then she said her reason: "I already bought you GTA last week".
Something died in me that moment and I decided that when I'll become rich enough I will make a game with only purpose to punish parents who don't pay attention to ratings.
I'll call it "Rainbow parrot tea party" and cover of it will be happy, jolly and utterly innocent.
But it will be AO/R rated rapegorefest with elements of pedonecrozoophilia and infused with satanic rituals.
If everything goes as planned 10% of developers will go insane during development process, at least one will commit suicide after game is released and remaining developers will have nightmares for the rest of their lives.
Hopefully after playing this game kids will kill their braindead parents in their sleep.
Maybe after that parents will realize that rating is not only a decoration of the box, but actually means something.
(Yes, I'm that evil)

P.S. Hopefully by the time I have means of creating such game, parents will become smarter.

Instead of parents complaining about gamers teaching their kids bad words/habits, they shouldn't buy an M/18 rated game to babysit them. And why don't they put parental controls on? It's more their fault than ours...

Fox already did this during the previous generation xbox. You guys are pretty late to the bandwagon.

Maybe they couldn't find a terrorist to scare people that day. Good old fear-mongering.

Parents can let kids play any game they want. But where I draw the line is when they complain about the content of video games, when they let their kids go ahead and play it. Even worse is that they specifically target games, developers, and even Xbox Live/Playstation Network (who are not responsible for the content of games), and say nothing about their involvement in parenting their children. Whenever this is brought up, they change the topic to cover their asses.

I don't see any way for parents to take action against video games, when ESRB rates them in age groups. And in games that are within the age group of the children, they may also have "Game experience may change during online play," thus covering that loophole.

Also, this isn't a problem of video games, or XBL/PSN. This is a problem of the players.

You don't need internet to hear dirty words, just go outside, find two or more people talking and wait 30-60 seconds. Kids that live nearby curse more than any grown up ive ever met.

and good thing too! i mean, pretty much every experienced player knows that xbox live (or any other online platform) is basically a wretched hive of scum and villainy.
parents however do not.
but tbh, i bet they hear same thing on school playground so whats the problem?
i know i did....
ahhh, i recall when i was 14, on the school playing grounds, and i have heard a 8 year old swearing so much, that even i - 19 year old now, dont do during immense rage.

Here's a novel idea:
You just do NOT let your retarded fucking offspring (who is probably spouting most of the profanity themselves by the by) play call of fucking duty you pitiful caricatures of worthless parents.
Sounds more reasonable than whining about the ohnoessofoullanguage from the M RATED GAME that tarnishes the pure soul of your poor child, doesn't it.

Fucking parents.

In other news, no shit.

Now, here's how you protect your eleven-year-old from the people yelling "Fuck you you fag-****." etc:

Step 1. Don't buy them 15/16/18-rated games if they aren't 15/16/18.
Step 2. NO SERIOUSLY DON'T DO IT.
