Hi there escapist,

I have had a slight lull in TV I'm interested in watching recently and was looking for some current or past suggestions.

I've had L.A. Noire and Minecraft(oh god, the hours gone) to keep me engaged during veg time, but it seems shows I like are either between seasons or over. My girlfriend and I have been eagerly awaiting each new Game of Thrones but it's the only currently airing show I'm keeping up with and it's almost over.

I'm open to most shows but for a taste profile:

Some examples I like: Mad Men, Battlestar (reboot), Lost, Firefly, Dexter (although less since the plot has weakened), Modern Family, Castle, Sherlock (the modern-day bbc one), some bbc/food/discovery/history channel stuff, First season of Rome, uh some mainstream anime (Cowboy-Beebop...), Star Trek.... EDIT: How could I forget Breaking Bad! or Walking Dead! or Archer! or Heroes....

Well that's not exhaustive, and suggestions aren't expected to conform... just an idea or jumping off point.

Whudya got?

Games of Thrones aren't almost over. With the kind of success it has had, they will continue to make the other books as they talked about doing. The current season are book on, and there are four books out now and a firth comming this year. So on that front, there are some light, but I agree. The TV shows looks pretty dull atm beside that one.

Based on Dexter and Castle you might like Bones.

IMDB page [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460627/]

Also worth a try:
Being Human - English drama/mild comedy/very mild horror about a vampire ghost and werewolf.

Breaking Bad - Very well made drama about a respectable elder gent, science teacher who turns to drug dealing to pay his medical bills.

Chuck - Light-hearted spy comedy, the writing can be awfully and irritatingy illogical but the actors make it all a lot of fun.

Entourage - Comedy/drama about childhood friends when one of them becomes a major Hollywood moviestar.

Luther - Dark cop drama starring the intense Idris Elba

Sons of Anarchy - Drama about an American motorcycle gang and the young member who wants to turn them away from crime. Sounds rubbish right? You'll be very surprised.

True Blood - Vampires, can't really go wrong with vampires.

The Vampire Diaries - Like a teen version of True Blood.

The 4400
Supernatural
True Blood
Vampire Diaries *hides*
Spartacus

Completely ignoring what you're interested in, these are my current favourites and anything you haven't watched off that list are well worth it.

My next one to watch is Being Human after it was recommended by a friend, and Game of Thrones.

Spaced, not sure how easy it would be for you to find it though. It's a brilliant british sitcom, Shaun of the Dead was based on an episode of it

Yeah, I can't believe I forgot to put Breaking Bad on the list. Great show.

Thanks for reminding me of Sons of Anarchy, A coworker mentioned it a while ago but I forgot. I should give Being Human and Chuck a try too. Heard about them but never got around to watching.

As for vampires, I think you can go quite wrong with them.... recently anyway.

Really funny show. It's only like 7-10 episodes though isn't it? Are there more than those originals?

I'm a big fan of their brand of humor.

Game of Thrones is really great. They do a great job of covering a lot of ground plot/worldwise in way that is captivating

Definitely checking out "The 4400" from the Wiki plot summary it sounds like my brand of SciFi awesome.

It was two series so about 14 episodes. I think they made the right choice to end it then, before it started becoming too samey.

currently going through sit coms myself just got done with seinfeld and now on to everybody loves raymond (anyone noticed how much ray romano looks like zach braff at times? ;P) also watching Flashpoint (really recomend giving that one a try...but don't pay attention to/skip the first 40 secs or so they spoil the episode a little imo)

Spartacus - Is what I'm currently hooked on, its rips me around emotionally like a dog with a chew toy. And it has very interesting perspectives.

You like Firefly but you haven't seen/listed Buffy? SHAME ON YOU.

Go watch it. All of it. Right now. All of the Buffy.

The Walking Dead has just come to an end here in Britain.

Comes with my recommendation.

Being Human, the British version.

Comes with my recommendation.

Moonlight, another Fox execution, also very good. one of the first "new generation of "those" kind of vampire shows" and is actually the only one that pulls it off.

Comes with my recommendation.

High five!

\\o

Takes a particularly manly man to admit to watching a show clearly marketed at teen women.
LOL! I'm gay... the stereotypicalness is now oozing out of me!

When you watch The 4400, do not judge it by the first season. I was very tempted to stop watching it as it was just good... not fantastic... just good. Then I watched season 2 which was better... season 3 and 4 got awesome though :)

Hehe yeah I should rewatch Seinfeld. It's been long enough that I will have forgot most of them.
I did that with TNG recently. good fun.

I sporadically watch Flashpoint. It's pretty funny to watch sometimes as they shot it in, and for once actually refer (vaguely) to it as Toronto, where I'm from. It can be good with the characters but It's frequently very safe or predictable with the plotting. Exception: the landmine episode. Pretty gripping.

Side topic: It's always funny when Toronto stands in for American cities I'm sure it does competently, but there are lots of moments like Mila Jovovich running down the side of city hall in the second Resident Evil or in the (really bad) Bulletproof Monk someone standing in front of it proclaiming "Come on man, this is America!"

Wow those are some shitty examples... good movies happen here too.... right?

Oh that's cool. I just heard it was a "miniseries" and assumed that they were just doing the first book. Has the second been greenlit?

Here's the thing, I've heard lots of good things about it, and it sounds like the sort of thing I'd like to like, but I watched the first couple episodes way back when the show started and Blood on the Sand was just very silly and meh for me. Does it get better?

It's like The Borgias. Tried to like it and was surprisingly bored after the pilot that I just couldn't bring myself to watch the second. I was surprised, because I figured Jeremy Irons in full-on scenery chewing mode, and the gorgeous opening titles sequence had primed me for liking it.
