My friends are important to me and a hug with a close friend is great, especially as we have all moved away so don't get to see each other very often. Hell, when I was at uni I'd known my flatmates for 3 months but when we were back together in January there were a lot of reunion hugs.

now, one day a few years ago a friend mentioned it was their birthday coming up and said to me 'what you going to give me for my birthday' to which I replied 'I'll give you a hug'. his response was 'no thanks, I'm not gay' which I thought was stupid. I just this minute told that story to my mum and she pretty much agreed with my mates response.

what do you think? is one friend hugging another gay? or is it just friendly? Joey and Chandler do it all the time!

Hugging a friend isn't "gay" in itself, but the idea of two men hugging each other could seem pretty gay to onlookers. If it doesn't matter to you or your buddies, by all means do it.

Is it gay? technically no, but some guys may feel uncomfortable with hugging another guy, so to them it feels gay. It really depends on what you comfortable with.

Slightly off topic but there are some male pornstars have sex with other men but arn't gay, they just see it as their job, obviously an extreme example, but it just depends how comfortable you are sexually

I hug some of my closest guy friends, but I'm not gay. Yesterday was my graduation, so there was lots of hugging going around. Nobody thought it was gay, it was just a sign of appreciation and celebration. I don't see anything wrong with a guy hugging a guy.

Depends upon what type of hug it is, but a hug between guys isn't innately homosexual. The more smashing of palms on backs repeatedly and the more trying to crush the other guy the less gay. I feel it's pretty obvious what makes it more gay, though.

I dont think it makes you gay, it makes you a cheapskate that all your friend is getting for his Birthday is a hug

a hug isn't in anyway sexual so how is it gay? you could just improvise and do a bro tap on the back, thats just like the same thing but quicker and more socially acceptable. Besides gay or homosexual or whatever you want to call it is when you either take it or give it to another dude in the butt, or make out with another dude. Because in some european countries, close friends can kiss and it is seen as a sign of greeting. Just take what happened at either the golden globes or academy awards when the two dudes kissed on stage. It wasn't because they gay, they are both married heterosexual males, its just that they were european and thats a common thing to do over there in some countries.
