Before I drop $125 on getting Final Fantasy XIII-2, I'd like to know a couple of things...

Does each and every single battle take 5-10 mins to chore through like in FFXIII, or are battles against random mobs and bosses a lot faster now?

What happens if the character you're controlling dies, is it an instant game over?
Cripes if you thought XIII's battles were long, I fear what you would think of the battles in the older games. Or other JRPGs for that matter.

There are boss encounters that are meant to last 45+ minutes in some games.
I remember spending an hour or more on the final bosses in Final Fantasy X and The Legend of Dragoon. Talk about a FIGHT.

Much as I'm loving Final Fantasy XIII, I haven't encountered anything quite that epic just yet, though I did spend a good 15 minutes on a recent boss.

Squeenix haven't made a decent game in a long time.

Consider everything they make as shite until proven otherwise. Having seen trailers and gameplay from XIII-2, nothing has changed.

Annoying as hell characters, style over substance battle system, convoluted story.

Yup, still sucks.

It's already been said but definitely play the demo if you can. I don't think I'll be getting the game new (I buy used and I'm proud) or until it goes down in price. I'm just turned off my the only having two characters and a third guest, monster, or dlc character.

Of the bosses i've faced possibly had one or two at 5-10 mins others less than that. Most other battles are short unless you've gone against a particularly strong creature like a behemoth but the game seems to quicksave before every battle so if you die or just get owned when you choose retry you'll appear near where you encountered the creature. Most of the target times i've seen haven't been above three mins. Also as said above if the character you control dies you just swap over. Its easier to get the surprise advantage in battles in this game.

Perhaps this is true for you americans, however prices all over the world are different. For example I know Australians and us Swedes have to pay 100-130 US dollars to buy a newly released game.

For example, the Crystal edition that I bought is 999 sek, which converted is about $150.
Well I don't know how you Swedes run this business but I know Australians are being ass fucked on the simple premiss of "because we can".

In any case ebay is your bestest friend, then again if you drop $150 just like that I'm guessing income and consequently taxes are really damn high.
And all the American companies wonder why people pirate things.
It was one of Trent Reznor's visits to Australia when he saw his album was selling for like $40 - 45 dollars that helped open his eyes on why music sharing was so prevelant.

But also to answer the OP... Try the demo, you can download it for free on the XBOX and PS3. I tried it, loved it, bought it.
Im not American, Im Irish - and bought it for £30, which is about $40-55 I think? $150 for a game sounds like robbery to me 0.0 How do youse afford games??

Well it can't be any worse that the first part. Man that game sucked balls. Not in a good way.
Hahaha oh how wrong you are .

The second one has QTE's during cinematics for starters. The story is less coherent . It deals with time paradoxes ,as if it was trying to be chrono trigger , but worst . The combat is okay , there is an easy mode now. The character animations are worst ( seriously , when i saw serah runfor the first time , i laughed so hard). There so much wrong with this game , it's actually worst , square enix deserves a medal.

Edit: oh an noel is a tool, serah seems less brave that in the previous game , You don't get to play as anyone from FFXIII, it's just noel an serah + a monster. No snow, no lightning , no sahz ,no hope, no vanille ,no fang ( though vanille and fang makes sense due to FFXIII ending).
The story is less coherent? Squarenix have outdone themselves...

I should have clarified in the OP, I live in New Zealand, so it's $125 NZD. I've no idea what that would be in American money.

What's this "easy mode" like/about?

5-10 minutes?

What the hell version of FFXIII were you playing?

The longest battle I was ever in was against Bartandalus or whatever the ugly bastard boss was called on that airship, and that was maybe twenty minutes. Most if not all regular enemy battles only took me about Five minutes AT THE MAXIMUM, usually ending after about two-to-three, and I grind a lot too.

You think that was bad then try playing FFX or FF7.

What platform you getting it for? If you're getting it for the PS3, which is region free, you can easily find it on eBay for 50-60 dollars.
