We don't apply because you don't really seem to take us on as interns and allow us to build up credibility within the industry without grabbing a collage degree only avaliable in the US.

Now shut up.
Or, to put it another way, you don't have the necessary education or experience, and you can't be bothered with acquiring it.

If you really want to work in that field, they're literally begging you to become qualified and apply. You clearly don't, so I guess you won't. Nobody's going to give you a job for which you lack qualifications, even if you do fit a demographic they're seeking.

That'd be like me saying, "I'd be a doctor, if they didn't expect me to have a degree in medicine."
My we're into necrophilia aren't we.
I do have the necessary qualifications but entry-level positions are becoming hard to come by with everyone clinging onto their jobs and all spots filled up years in advance. Experience is yet something I have to attain but I have time. And yes they don't tend to take us in as much, I keep enough contacts within the industry to get an idea in this country.

It's a lovely front to put up, but what I was getting at is it's just not true, they're not looking for women specifically.

I'd like to know where say where I said I didn't have qualifications, or if I'm just being trolled but oh well, don't dig up old topics like this, you're free to PM me if you were that curious.

Maybe if it weren't the same old story of every applicant needing years of experience for even the most junior roles they might just get what they want.
^This. The gaming industry is pretty ridiculous with their job requirements. Take a look at any job posting, you'll see them requiring several years of experience within the industry, several shipped titles and such. It's kinda hard to break in.

Weird... It was in the "latest" section of my forum window, so I didn't even bother looking at the date. Sorry for the necro.

Do you know for a fact that the industry doesn't look for women for entry level positions, or are you just saying that because you haven't gotten the job you want and you assume that's why? I seriously doubt that an industry that seems to be trying its ass off to attract women would make a habit of turning qualified women down. I'm not in the field, but when I was considering a tech consultant position, I remember seeing want adds specifically asking for female applicants for entry level positions.

I know for a fact that in places I can work, they are not, but it very much depends on where you are in the world. The U.K. are so gung-ho on equal opportunity that it eventually comes full circle and now you're discouraged to even put your gender on your C.V. So why would they say they're looking for women specifically. That's just silly and untrue.

No I'm not bitter because the position I'm suited for (and usually apply for) is very specific so being turned down is normal, but I am confused as to why they say they're looking for female applicants specifically. It's hard enough to attain the qualifications for the industry in the U.K. and be taken seriously for it.

But I do remember working in a section of the industry, and being made to feel very out of place because the gents wanted to keep their favorite past time to themselves. I know this is not an indication of every place, so I keep trying regardless, but... it's discouraging.
And right now in the UK there aren't many developers or opportunities to begin with. So they ask for nearly unfathomable amounts of experience for the really choosy positions. Still waiting a year on an intern place.
