Funny, because the UK is in the position to make itself the "Hollywood" of video games, an industry that's already eclipsed film in terms of profits.

I guess they'd rather let Canada or the US have all that money.
Hey, when you have a cabinet of idiots, what are you going to do?

Then again, we often do.

Clueless politicians are once again clueless. What else is new? They obviously didn't even check the sales of some of the more recent games. Gaming industry makes more money than movie industry.

To be honest any tax break is going to get alot of flak what with the UK's spending cuts its nearly impossible to justify a tax break in times like this also the industry is hardly falling on hard times as evident by its high sales. High sales + High taxes = More money.

Also most voters arnt gamers so its going to look very iffy if they are lowering EMA (which helps towards paying for kids to stay in school past 16) and then at the same time cutting tax breaks for the VG industry.

Its unfortunate but thats how its going to happen

Oh, it is. You get titles like Shadow Defense Minister, which makes them sound as if they're employed to keep us safe from ninjas...
One thing you can say about the British Government - they're brilliant at keeping the ninjas away.
How can we know that for sure? I mean, if the ninjas were here, we'd never know! Sneaky buggers...

That's my point, it makes more money than the respected film industry that will never be as big as Hollywood, while games are on track against North America and Japan... well, not now sadly.
Yeah, my point was that making more money than the UK film industry isn't particularly impressive. Our film industry is always going to be a very minor player in comparison to Hollywood, so touting our games industry as being bigger than our film industry is something of a hollow boast.
Not if the government will support film but not games.

Yes...buttfuck your own gaming industry. One that has trumped your own film industry (how did you let that happen, Britain? Cmon!!) no less.

Maybe the UK Developers will just move to Canada. I hear they like game developers.

More revenue than the UK film industry in 2008? Yeah, not a sure winner...

The fact he didn't get his facts straight destroys any opinion he has on the subject.
Dunno, them GTA IV sales were pretty massive.

And also, if they do back the gaming industry, you'll get massive returns, especially with companies like Rockstar North and Lionhead.

Be careful, some of those are companies that did exist but don't any longer (i.e., Bullfrog Productions). Still, the UK gaming industry is a powerful one, and which has a lot of potential for development. Having said that, I can see why they'd be reluctant to find £192 million from somewhere at such a time.

However, shaving a fraction of the Trident budget would pay for this...

With all the cuts coming to the Universities and gaming industry as well as increasing tuition fees and scrapping of EMA. I get the feeling David Cameron really hates the youth of today. Or just poor people,he is a tory afterall.
They're not scrapping EMA, granted everything else is right and they are screwing over the youth of the country. Just want to make sure the facts are right.
My bad, I thought the plans to scrap EMA were set in stone, turns out it's only "being discussed". Oh well even if they do scrap I leave college at the end of the year so it won't affect me :p

To be fair to the government the games industry will be getting a form of tax break in the UK - corpration tax is dropping 4% over 4 years (I think that's the right figure anyway) so while it's nothing huge, hopefully it will encourage some growth in all sectors, not just the games industry.

shadow minister of transport, shadow minister of health i just want the raving monster looney party to win the election at some point. however there is the point that if a member of the raving monster looney party does become an mp by winning his local election then he automatically loses his membership of the party and becomes an independent until he is no longer in power

That's the reason why Britain's jails are full. They're full of prisoners and ninjas-awaiting-deportation.

Pffft, no self-respecting ninja would allow themselves to be captured. Those are probably the decoy ninjas, who make a scene and get themselves captured so that the real ninjas can work without distraction...

They always try to commit Seppuku, but the National Health Service always manages to patch 'em up in time. Then the ninja wakes up in prison with his honour in shreds and his guts intact.

I'd have to agree with you on that one. :)
Or to meet you half way - ground glass. (Ouch!)
