It's understandable. Well, if you're from the big bit of Ireland. Well, the British army did do one good thing: got rid of a couple of gullible football jocks at my school. RIP, that abnormally hairy guy with the on-off relationship with the girl with the large ass...

Or, y'know, he's still in training...

Furburt, could you set up an "accidental" car bomb at his base?

How boring would that be?

"Up against the wall Paddys!"

"OK."

'Press 'X' to beat harmless old man across face.'

BULLSEYE! 50 POINTS!

Black Books brings our countries together. Aah.
How? All it really does is say that the only Irish character is a drunk, rude and unreasonable person.

Or, on the flipside, that the English are weak and rubbish while the Irish are funny and crazy.

Has the guy ever played a game? Admittedly I've never been in the military, but I don't see how the 2 suddenly = each other.

If anything games put you off war; the first CoD anyone?

I support this idea also. The sooner those mouthing, leeching chavs on the net are signed up to the military and sent to die in Afghanistan the better.
What exactly is a Chav? I have seen it a few times on here but never understood what it means. Also, why would it be better for them to die?

I see now. They look and dress like the wanna be gangsters over here in America.
Dear God, IT'S SPREADING!

Yes I believe you did. My uncle is on his way.

It seems rediculous that anyone would join up after playing America's Army. It isn't even fun.

They could release an addon pack when the player has to clean up the limbs after the IRA blow up a bomb in the middle of city too. Yeah...

Well, its abit worse than wannabe Gangsters; wannabes at least have a goal and aim. Chavs just have no aim beyond collecting doe money and stabbing/hitting/beating people for fun. Oh, and acquiring vast amounts of 'White Lightning' (think battery-acid alocohol).

I think this idea is disgusting. Sure you can't enlist people who aren't 18 yet, but i find it extremely difficult to believe that the USA army isn't also trying to influence the minors (teens from 15-17) and make them fond of the idea of enlisting later.
Enlistment age in Britian is 16

We can only hope that's the target audience for this; personally, I don't think they'll take even this job, inspite of being given a gun for it.

Didn't your family get killed by the British army because they were in the IRA? You don't have much to complain about then :p

In that I don't understand how playing games is supposed to entice us into the army.
Ah, okay. Obviously a bit of miscommunication going on there. :)

You could ask the same question of any television ads, patriotic posters (does anyone still use those?) or any other form of recruitment tool. As Powell noted, none of them touch on the realities of military life, yet on some level, with some people, they work.

What is it about scantily-clad bimbos and unshaven asshats makes people want to buy shitty American beer? Who knows?

I call shenanigans on the Lloyd's Bank analogy. Lloyd's doesn't use tax dollars to pitch that misleading image.

A nationalized armed force, since it's using tax money, has a different set of obligations in how it uses that money to advertise itself. Since this good man also brings up that soldiers get poor wages and living conditions, how does he justify using EXPENSIVE TO DEVELOP video games as a means of achieving anything but headcount? Wouldn't paying decent wages to enable retention of trained forces possibly be a better means of utilizing public funds?

If it presents a misleading image, and uses public funds to do so, it counts as misleading propaganda. Yes, I'm sorry to have to point out, that IS immoral.

I sure as hell don't! You know what would happen if the Irish army ceased to be? Fuck all, that's what! You know why? Because we don't make a habit of pissing other countries off!

And no one but the beer makers care, because nobody's tax dollars were used to pitch the sale. The analogy to ordinary advertising doesn't really work here because there is the public interest in the money used at issue. One could argue that a bullet or a c-ration would be a better use of those dollars than a video game.

A US Army example: Not licensing Nickleback would have been a fair trade to make if that cash had gone to up-armor kits for HumVees, IMO. See my point?

selling a big decision such as joining the military by using fantasy is just plain wrong.
