And yet Ubisoft will continue to blame pirates for their crappy sales in the future rather than the Deliverance themed DRM they chose to use.

When will companies realise that DRM only hurts legitimate buyers?

DRM is pointless, it always was

Unless it's steam :p
Gah, Steam is not DRM. Steam is a distribution platform that is supposed to make it so easy to obtain games that it's not worth the time taken to pirate them.

Steamworks is DRM. Steamworks is not effective DRM. 99% of games on Steam have been pirated.

DRM is only ever a delaying tactic. It will be broken, the game will go out to people for free. Ubisoft/EA's DRM is not a good DRM, and I will never buy any PC game that has it included, but as long as people keep pirating games DRM will continue to get worse.

Ubisoft basically won if they got the sales from the first 3 or 4 weeks. That's mainly what the DRM is there to prevent. Most of these AAA games get their sales from week 1 and preorders anyway. Why do you think there are no ads 5 weeks after release?

In any case this was posted long ago by someone so not really new news.
Actually that post was about a normal crack IIRC and it ended up not working after the opening sections of the game. This one is 100% working and it came out a few days/week ago.

Actually I just did a college research paper on the subject, and almost all pirates that pirate games/music/movies won't buy them if they can't pirate them.

I'm fairly sure Pirates have a lot more then 1 in their scores.

Odd that Pirates get a better gaming experience then legit buyers...
pirates always get a better deal, always have a better deal, its why people pirate.

I think it is a shame that after all the buzz Escapist made about the cracks being released and servers being DDOSed they didn't post anything up about this. I think it is excellent closure for Ubisoft and this whole train wreck.

DRM is flawed in so many ways, it's generally bad PR.

--What Legit Buyers Get--
Install Limit: 3-5
Game Verification issues: Many
Ability to 'pick up and play': Little
Who they must rely on: Pirates

--What Pirates Get--
Install Limit: Infinite
Game Verification issues: None - Few
Ability to 'pick up and play': High
Who they must rely on: Other Pirates

Ubisoft is basically trying to heal a frost bitten finger by cutting off their arm. If you just give buyers more freedom then they will buy out of respect and to own something they can play when they like.

One question, for the record. Why is it that video games have draconian DRM like this, even when it's been proven to be useless, while every other entertainment medium doesn't bother with it? There's no DRM on DVDs or Blu-Ray, nor on music CDs or music downloads. Yet they have even worse piracy rates than games. So why do gamers lose out or get stepped on by DRM and the other media don't?

Yes, I do realise there are things like copy protection and stuff on other forms of media, before anyone calls me out on it. But they have nothing like the sort of thing used to stop video game piracy...

Uhh... DRM... why do they think that forcing us to get a connection will stop piracy? It just is annoying forcing us to connect, sending more and more players to the consoles. It is not effective as this shows, and pirates can evolve to meet the challenges they face. Why not try more solutions like that one japanese porn game "pirate it, and you only get to play when you admit you pirated it" or Batman "I can't jump" mechanic? It is both humorous and deters more Pirates then DRM ever will.

There are ways to verify quality of produce. If they fail, and I accidentally buy a rotten fruit/vegetable, I return it for a full refund. Whats awesome, is I'm not treated like a criminal for doing so! An anal retentive prick, maybe, but not a criminal. No one assumes I'm only returning the rotten produce because I copied the rotten produce to another... uh, fresh produce... uh... so much for that analogy.
No, no, I can finish it. You pulled the seeds out with thin tweezers, then returned it saying a worm made that hole.

Smecks-cellent! A proud day for everyone!
Yes, people managed to steal something that the creators were desperately trying to protect. But hey it's alright because the creators were big bad corporations. They don't need money, right?
A proud day that the game can now be played even when Ubisoft decide to pull the plug on their server. Sometime down the road this is going to help someone play a game they loved, but couldn't play legitimately any more.

Not helpful. The more they crack the uncrackable DRMs the worse the next DRM will be.
Eventually they will figure out that they're wasting more money on DRM than they're 'losing' to piracy. They just have to realise that DRM loses them sales and that every pirate download does not necessarily mean a lost sale.
Otherwise we'll just go round and round until the publisher goes bust.

Don't support corporate games.

People complain on the internet, but end up getting it anyway. If people really stuck by their word, these companies wouldn't be making the game the way it is..

of course if people DID stop spending money on BS stuff like this, the companies would probably blame piracy.
