Don't get me wrong; I'm against the whole DRM thing too, I just think it's being blown out of proportion (as these things usually are).
Has ANYONE else in this thread actually tried the DRM?
As a network engineer and IT professional, I make a living fixing those sorts of problems, and *I* think the DRM, strictly from a technical perspective, is a disaster waiting to (or actually has) happen.
Ubisoft is trying to keep its customers on board with this system so they can legitimize it.
If enough people buy into it, they can encourage others in the industry to adopt the same strategy, at which point it would be very difficult to legally protest. This all nothing but a bid for control over the customer's spending habits, ultimately, of which piracy happens to be a part of.
In the long term, this "Free game" bribery has nothing to do with keeping the customer satisfied.
While some people are blowing the matter out of proportion, the principle of the matter is that it is a business that treats its customers like criminals, and isn't actually selling a product in a product-centric market.
