Breaking news form the internet!
The much maligned Uplay system has once again struck a blow to PC gaming.

As many may be aware "Might & Magic Hereos VI" is on sale on steam today to signify the release of the game's expansion "might & Magic Heroes VI: Shades of Darkness".

However, somewhere in the most recent patch it appears they messed up some of the authentication on the Uplay client for the original Heroes VI purchasers.

Many are finding, when they try to authenticate the key for the game they JUST BOUGHT, Uplay is telling them the key is already in use and then taking them to the store page where they can conveniently purchase another key.

Many users are understandably upset with what I'm sure is a calculated business move from Ubisoft to simply refuse to give you a game you just bought legitimately. That'll teach those PC gamers!

Here are some forum threads with hundreds of posts each of affected users:

Keep in mind this is the company that said we're ready for an always online future.
Stay classy, Ubisoft! I'm glad I decided a long time ago to stop buying your games.

That's a major fuck up on their part but I very much doubt they did it intentionally. I hope they sort it out quickly or give people compensation (not likely).

I've got no words about the incident. I can just say that I actually like Ubi - probably the most out of all the big name ones. But their DRM policy is rather...underwhelming. And they've had "incidents" way too often. It's almost like they didn't really think the DRM through.

The part when I mentioned it was a new business policy was sarcasm, but I can see it not being entirely clear. Sorry for any misunderstandings :)

Ah sorry! I'm not good with picking up sarcasm in text and I've seen people legitimately hold views like this so many times I've stoped assuming it's a joke.

Or Gearbox.

In any case, I've heard a lot of terrible things about Uplay, but I've never had a problem with it...although, I haven't bought this particular game from Steam either, soo...

I prefer to look at it as ubisofts unending crusade to promote piracy. They really hate money.

Well, I think EA is now safe from being voted the worst company in America three years in a row.

Don't discount EA's consistency.
Their bad buzz...well, EA is in the headlines every March and April for grabbing the pooch and violating her so bad she can't walk straight.

Mass Effect 3? SimCity? The ToR-tanic?
Not saying Ubisoft are angels, but the amount of eminent hate aimed at them is much lower than EA's.

Amazing stuff. I can't play the main campaign either, it's locked for some reason. I'm giving them 48 hours to fix this, then I'm taking it up with Steam for selling me a 10 gb brick. Stay away from this game.

lol, yeah cause it's not ever going to be fixed, right? They're doing it for the lulz I'm sure.
Considering it took them about 3 months after the original game launched to fix the flickering cursor and black screen on nvidia cards, I'm not optimistic. But yeah, you're right, people should buy this immediately. You can't actually play it, but they should. In case they manage to play it. Eventually.

Oh no! A small screw up that will be fixed! And probably very soon!

For shame! I will be writing my congressman about this!

Ah, give 'em a week, they'll think of of something that makes them worse. My personal bet its they'll release a patch for SimCity that deletes it off your hard drive if your connection goes.

OT: This is a pretty bad accident, but Ubisoft strikes me as the least awful of the AAA publishers, so hopefully they'll get it fixed soon.

Yeah! 3 days and counting of unable to authenticate your cd keys? That's nothing! You shouldn't be upset about it until it hits a month!

Meanwhile, in Skyrim:

"Hey, Pantea. I've been trying to give you your flute for about a year and a half now, but you don't seem to want it."

Forgot that only certain companies can get away with taking time to fix small problems, or just not fixing them at all.

Impatient motherfuckers around here.

If they go through Steam refunds for a non functioning product, Valve will give them the money back and then take it from Ubisoft, whether Ubisoft like it or not.

They're working on it, it'll very likely soon be fixed, what else do you want?
