I'd give them a month at most before the weight of the PC Gaming community crushes them.

As always the pirated versions of the games will be clean of this madness, so it's pretty clear what gamers are going to do. If you want to fight piracy, OFFER stuff, don't RESTRICT stuff. Oh well.

WHAT. THE. FUCK! ARGH. What's more, I've usually got some download or another going, so I'll have to stop my updates and all that shit. And where did he get the idea that we're constantly on an internet connection? Hopefully some clever person figures out crack to dodge this issue. Or some pirate provides me with a way. I honestly don't care. I'm certainly not buying this if I have to remain logged in, I'll just wait until I get a PS3, then buy it. WHY?! It doesn't even make sense. Pirates definitely have an internet connection. :S I'm sure there are a million ways to create bogus accounts. It's not hindering pirates, it's just creating more. Why do no developers realise that? Hell, I have a wireless router, if I disconnect for a second I could lose like 5-6 hours of gameplay on an average Saturday. And I have a laptop so I could take it with me places. To dad's, who has a very limited, quite slow connection since he rarely uses it. I will be taking it to "nerd camp" and I doubt I'll have internet access. I take it around to friends places. Either, I can't use their internet (rude and stuff), they have no or limited internet connections, or,like me and my girlfriend, the very real possibility exists that I'll be kicked off a wireless connection. Ubisoft, you used to be cool. Prince Of Persia, Assassins Creed. Now... I hate you. Too bad guys, you blew it.

I'm glad i didn't wait till it was released on the pc and just bought it for the 360. It seems that Ubisoft doesn't like money, because few people who hear of this DRM will still buy it.

Screw Ubisoft.

With all the crap they peddle out to the Wii and the DS, (which has arguable contributed to the inability of gamers to take the consoles seriously), and now this monstrosity of DRM.

I'll make sure in the future to check the games I want to buy to see if the Ubisoft is the publisher, because if they are, I'll avoid that game like the plague, no matter how good the game is!
(Either that, or I'll buy it pre-owned, and if that pre-owned game was on the pc, I'd install a crack!)

EDIT: I feel sorry for anyone that bought this game without prior knowledge to Ubisofts new DRM policy, as I could imagine it would be a huge sucker punch, (or a stab in the back! XD) to them.

Wow. Glad I got AC2 on 360 and didnt wait for the PC version. This also sorts out which platform I'll get Conviction on.

I give it a week tops before there is a work-around crack courtesy of those magnificent pirates.
The conspiracy theorist in me jumps at the thought of having to be connected to a main central server which processes user information, in order to play a game that has no online interaction, or other reason to require the internet.

I mean, as far as things go, I think this marks a milestone in anti-piracy attempts.... Namely that people who go out and purchase the game get random bugs and crashes, where pirates who download the game without paying for it, get a much better experience overall.

I wonder how many people will buy the game, realize they can't play it, and then run and download the cracked copy so they can actually play it...

I don't know, but to me this seems to endorse piracy more than it discourages it...

As a PC gamer, does Ubisoft not realize we are an unforgiving bunch? Do they also not realize we complain like there's no tomorrow?
Yeah! We should boycott the game! That ALWAYS works.
It would work if people weren't such sheep XD

Anyway I won't be buying this shit.

With a high profile game like this i'm expecting a day 0 workaround and a proper crack about 2 days in.

Which is why they even try DRM in the first place. It's a nasty vicious cycle, but piracy is not the answer. Ever.
Actually, this may be the one case where I'd make an exception.

I don't mean I'd pirate the game, but if I were to buy it, I'd probably get a crack to let me play offline.

I don't think that's illegal.
You are not allowed to modify their property at all. If they truly wanted to be assholes, they could sue you for moving the desktop icon.

Well Ubisoft, you've really proven yourself haven't you? I thought you'd made up for your newest Prince of Persia game by releasing something decent (AC2), but now it seems you've gone for the route of 'Punish All, They Will Learn'. I'm sorry, but what the hell? What I'm concerned about at the moment is how you think you are going to get away with it without huge backlash from PC gamers.

As a console gamer however, I can smugly return to my copy of Assassin's Creed II and continue playing. He he he.

I see no problem with this. As we all know there is never any problem with the internet, and you can get a high quality connection from anywhere in the world, a train, a boat, an airplane, a tunnel, everywhere.
You, sir, are profoundly ignorant.
You, sir, don't know sarcasm when you see it.

I don't want to lose my save everytime someone uses the Microwave. Since so many people use Laptops there is a big chunk of audience that doesn't have an Internet connection when they play. I actually hope pirates will crack this.

In this house, the network intermittently goes down once every few hours on average, only to come back up 3 minutes later. So if I were to play this game on my PC... well, it wouldn't be worth the effort to even bother.

I thought it was bad enough that I had to be logged into Games For Windows Live in order to actually play Dawn of War II, because I absolutely hate being controlled and I don't like being told when I can play my games. I did not move out of my over-controlling parents' house just so the game publishers themselves could take over the mantle of allowing me to play my games only when they see fit. So this is just ten times worse, really.

Ubisoft and all others who support this kind of DRM need to take their heads out of their asses and start looking at the industry and just how intrusive and illogical DRM is. It's not going to increase their profits - if anything, it'll only lose them profits.

A good reason for me to support the pirates on this one.

I want someone to tell me how this will stop piracy ANY more than a simple disc check? How is this in any way more effective? I can understand EA's moe towards DLC, that at least makes a modicum of sense, but this move by Ubisoft is just retarded.

If it's cracked it doesn't matter what kind of copy protection you used. Once it's cracked, that's that. A person using the crack doesn't care if the original copy protection was a disc check, required a constant internet connection or demanded human sacrifices every hour. For him it doesn't exist.

But you know for whom it DOES exist? The guy who DIDN'T crack the game, who is using a fully legit copy. Ubisoft isn't combating piracy, they are combating legal sales. They seem to want to reduce the number of units sold. I'm not sure why, but there you have it...

Indeed.

I don't care what anyone in the industry says, I don't care what lawyers say, I'm going to crack my legally purchased games if the DRM prevents me from actually playing them.
