Ubisoft Responds to PETA Whaling Complaint

Much as it's weird to admit, I've really begun to like Ubisoft again. They've been doing some positive things with what they have. Cheers.

While it is understandable what you're trying to say here, I think its a moot point. This logic doesn't apply to PETA or how they function. They openly value animals (and animal rights) above humans - its fundamental to the core beliefs of animal liberation activists. Violence against humans is fair game and not really their concern.Andy Chalk said:

Now, I haven't seen any developer diaries talking about whaling or any other mentions of the art of killing whales in the game, prior to this news release, which leaves me to ask this question. Apart from a single screenshot where a whale is swimming in the background (which to me looked like was simply there for aesthetic pleasure), what proofs does PETA have that allows it to claim that the game is promoting whaling and condone them for it?
Bear in mind that we're talking about a game that's advertised as an assassin simulator, taking place in a frigging pirate ship. Pirates weren't exactly known for their whaling practices and you'd think the professional title of protagonist might give you a hint of what he was gonna be doing in this game.
Here you go. A list of all major whale (and dolphin) species in the world, what waters they swim in and whether or not they're considered endangered. My recommendation, the common mink whale. He's small (for a whale) and thus, should be easy enough for you to handle and also in the "Least Concerned" list, which is the best status to be in (meaning that a rat or any other abundant animal would be classified as "least concerned").

A series which deals with conflict between religions, the Vatican, the American War of Independence, the Crusades, the struggle of Native Americans against colonials, and the suggestion of subversion of all governments... is being called out on for whaling?

If this was it's own IP I would be all over this. As an Assassin's Creed I know I have to wait an extra month or three before the price drops but honestly, I'm starting to anticipate this one. If the naval combat is as good as the rumors say and the whaling mechanics are solid you can count me in. I am that 1% who is indifferent to whales by the way.
