Oh goodie...another MMORPG. Here's a better idea, Ubisoft: stop pissing everyone off with ridiculous DRM and just make good games.
I was going to say just that!!!

They had a real opurtunity with FC2 to take away allot of BF/COD customers and revenue but they made it mind numbingly boring single player with the worst options for multiplayer I have seen in years. draconian DRM with a miniscule amount of installs. i dont see them touching the rest of the market when they treat legit customers like criminals and torture the IP they own.

Okay, Ubisoft. There are four main things you have to do here, and I doubt you'll do any of them.

1. No more online connection DRM for single player content. I should not be kicked from a single player game if my internet goes down.
2. Stop making crappy ports. Your 3DS launch titles? Prime example. Stop that. If you're going to port something, put forth the effort to make sure the end product is GOOD.
3. Stop making piles and piles and piles of shovelware. Nearly every contribution you made to the DS and Wii was crap. You aren't going to get in the #1 spot by flooding the market with Imagine and My Coach titles.
4. Make GOOD games. The last game you put out that I fully enjoyed was when you ORIGINALLY released Rayman 2 in 1999 (not one of the 50 billion ports of it you pumped out later). Everything else I've touched from you has felt rushed and unpolished at best.

Of course, I doubt Ubisoft would know what to do with themselves if they didn't do those things, so I don't think it's going to go anywhere in the "rankings" but down.

D'aaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww, ickle little Ubisoft wants to play with the big boys! Isn't that shweeeeet? *pats Ubisoft's head*

Honestly though I think its a steep climb for them to beat Activision... EA, maybe, but we need to bare in mind that Activision has a) Call of Duty, the most popular franchise (in ANY medium, surpassing the top-selling books, films, etc) of all time, and b) Blizzard, whom have a stranglehold on the lucrative MMORPG market.

If Blizzard leaves Activision (unlikely), then maybe, maybe Ubisoft stands a slim chance of gaining top place (after all, the 'most popular game franchise' title shifts all the time). Until then? Not a chance.

Wow, why is this news?????

What kind of company would they be if they decided to not be as profitable as possible?

I hate non-news... news.

Advice:
1. No more horrid 24/7 online DRM.
2. No more console ports for PC.
3. When you make your generic war shooter, and it is actually good, don't come out with an update a few weeks later that nurfs all the guns making the game horrible (Homefront). Some of us like the whole dying after 2-3 bullet realism thing, and the other guys can go back to surviving an entire clip in Call of Duty.

I can't believe I have to bust out Bender again so soon.
Bleh, ninja'ed.

Still i dont think we need a big 3 of publishers too. Theres still enough flamewars ovet the whole M$/Nintendo/Sony competition.

Honestly the likelyhood of this actually happening for Ubisoft is really low...

It's as unlikely as the AC games actually ending on something even remotely sane...

Actually, with several changes in their policy, I could (and would like to) see them beat EA and Activision. I hate those 2, so yea...

Change that DRM and go back to your old self. Problem solved. Old PoP and Splinter Cell were GREAT. IMO, their games, even though aren't anything special (I mean newest games), are still better then EA and Activision.

Apart from Assassins Creed, do they even have any good AAA titles under their belt?

Well, they're already pigheadedly putting over restrictive DRM on their products and ignoring their customers when it comes to their complaints about it. So yeah, I'd say they're well on their way to snagging the #1 or #2 spot.

I wouldn't mind seeing someone slap Activision around a bit but yea...more than doubling their sales isn't likely to happen any time soon.

If Ubi DRM methods continue to get more draconian it won't make much difference for my perspective. I don't intend to start up a DRM vs piracy argument. Just point out that their methods have stopped me from buying from them, or very almost in other cases. I'm not convinced that would be much fun as a customer.

Maybe they should just focus on making super good games?
Seems easier.
What? Why would you do that when you can just make the same game year after year? Why hello thar, Call of Duty and Madden.

Anyway, I genuinely like Ubisoft. I hope reaching #1 doesn't cause them to lose their souls in the process.

Ubisoft is barely comparable to developers like THQ, 2K, Valve, and Epic in terms of popularity in the gaming world, let alone comparable to SCEA and Zenimax. What are they thinking? That's like saying that you want the highest ranking official in the U.S army when you're not even the highest ranking official in your Battalion.

Baby steps, Ubisoft.
