Ubisoft Wants to Please PC Gamers

Does it feel like they are actually saying "We know we have burned our PC customers in the past, but we really want to cash in on Steam's popularity so we are going to make a Steam like program to sell you games, doesn't this make you happy?". I'm sorry but Ubi is just trying to make money, the same as always. If they want to generate good PR with their PC crowd, they need to patch all of their games to remove the retarded DRM and always online requirements (for some). Then they can focus on making games for the PC instead of porting a game to the PC. If they do those two things, I will go ahead and install UPlay and buy a game.

So you think it's completely justified to accuse me of being a Steam brownnoser because my experience with UPlay doesn't match yours despite the fact that I never even mentioned Steam in my post. In fact, prior to your tirade there wasn't anyone in the thread saying that Steam was anywhere near the best. At most it's labelled as the most convenient.

In addition to the torch and pitchfork, put the blinders away before you hurt yourself.
I didn't accuse you of that at any point. I said 'people' and they do. You lumped yourself in there. Guess you learn things about yourself you never knew? You're the one who started in with the getting personal with the whole torch and pitchfork comment not once but twice now. Adding in the blinders. Maybe you need to put the blinders away and learn when someone isn't attacking you.
Both of you calm down. There is no real point to this argument. Frost has had issues with Steam and as such doesn't like it as much as many other people do. LordLundar has had issues with Uplay and doesn't like it because of it. I am not sure why there is a wire crossed Frost, but Lundar never said a word about Steam until you brought it up with him. You didn't say they or anything of that nature you said
Please explain to me how a system that is EXACTLY the same as Steam is the worst DRM out there. I haven't had a single problem with Uplay.
which is asking him to compare the two based on his experience. So you are the one who brought the steam thing up.

Lundar you didn't make matters any better by antagonizing him with the torch and pitchfork comments. By doing that you are inciting further argument instead of valid conversation. Frost also never accused you of being a steam "brownnoser", he just doesn't seem to like steam very much, and is confused as to why others do like it.

OT: I don't mind the service, I just don't trust Ubisoft to keep their DRM off their games and products. I don't want another Origin fiasco going on.

Personally, i dont mind Uplay. I double click on the Far Cry 3 icon, opens up directly to Far Cry 3 in Uplay, and i click play. Not exactly the most difficult process. I've had no problems playing games without an internet connection, and Uplay actually loads a hell of a lot faster than Steam. So cool.

The thing they need to work on is their delays on PC. Other than that, they seem to have stopped their dumb DRM, and Far Cry 3 was as exceptionally well suited for the PC as you could hope for. Plenty of options and it definitely takes advantage of high-end systems.

On one hand, I suspect that the expressed desire to cater to PC gamers will prove to be largely just lip-service.

On the other hand, after regularly watching publishers who presumed we should show gratitude for only getting one brutal beating when we hand in our admission fees, a little lip-service is sounding like a pretty nice deal...

"Growing Uplay service" more like we bought games an suddenly they're updated and required to use Uplay out of the blue. Real good consumer respect.

I almost had a heart attack when I read the title.

Buuuut, its just so they can get more business on their digital distribution platform, so W/E.
Call me when they start properly treating PC gamers well, and not removing DRM to secretly patch it in a short while later. I've got nothing against a lot of their games - they're generally well made. Ubisoft's practices, however, and their previous comments regarding PCs... Its going to take more than improving your Digital Store to fix that.

To be honest i've never really had too much of a problem with the always on DRM other than if i were ever to have internet issues (sky internet is terrible). My main issue is the fact that pc versions of games usually come a month later and sometimes there really badly ported, but saying that other than the delays a lot of them have been fine lately.

I used to be a "big fan" of ubisoft (as in, I liked their games). It wasn't until I bought From Dust, which requires Uplay, that I started actively disliking them. As far as DRM goes, Steam tries to make a bad thing into a good one by making it into a service rather than a punishment. For my money, they're doing a good job. Uplay, while not a -bad- service, is just unnecessary. I dislike Uplay for the same reasons I dislike GFWL: I don't need an extra layer of DRM on top of steam. I don't want my achievements and screenshots to be archived in a seperate program; my friends are on Steam, and I want to share my gaming experiences with them. I know no one on Uplay or GFWL, and I have no need for them. That's why, I think, so many people complain about Uplay but still use steam. Steam works, it goes to great lenghts to try and actually improve the gaming experience. I had a ***** of a time getting From Dust to work, and had I known that Anno 2070 used the same thing, I would not have bought it. As it stands now, they are both games I will not be completing or playing very much.

For my money, Ubisoft can do what they want. I am interested in neither Assassin's Creed nor Far Cry. But if they want to gain the trust of PC players, I'd suggest removing the Uplay requirement from games purchased through Steam. Double DRM is not okay.

My 2 cents.

I only buy games when I can directly play them via Steam. I stopped buying EA games.
Ubisoft does not see that PC nerds like myself don't like to buy games on 4 different platforms.
I would surely have bought Ubisoft games, if they would not require damn f...ing U play.

My copy of From Dust wouldn't work until I reinstalled UPlay about six times.

Is it better now?

Anyone got any reasons why I should use UPlay instead of Steam and gog.com?

OK Ubisoft, I'll even give you a tip for free.
Pay attention, this one's kinda important:

DON'T PISS THEM OFF WITH ALWAYS-ONLINE DRM
They've stopped that. A long time ago. It's YOUR job to keep up with what they're doing, you know.

The issue isn't about the quality of games, it never has been (Ubisoft usually ranks fairly high in that regard personally). The issue is that to gain legal access to the quality games, customers are forced to deal with some of the worst DRM schemes out there put out by a company that thinks they're all thieves.
All their games have had one-time activations for months now. UPlay is, in a word, inoffensive.

iiiiiiiiiiincorrect.

They want to sell stuff, its their job the get the news about removing things that people hated out to the people they have driven away.

Its not the customers job to go and verify if the seller is still psising in your face everytime you show up in the store. Its the Sellers job to inform us he has nailed shut his schlong and wants us to perhaps come back and see whats new. And perhaps give us an appetizer.
When they didn't include Always-On DRM in Assassin's Creed 3, and every game thereafter, it was in the gaming news.

It's your job to listen for these things. Unless you want them personally mailing you every announcement...?

See above.

Please tell me this isn't going to be a "haven't you been listening for the past five months?" thread.

Good, then they've already taken the first step then.
