Racist jokes are funny, but only if you're mature enough to realize it's a crock of shit. Real racism is simply dumb really.
That's the thing though, every so often people come along and actually BELIEVE the jokes, never underestimate the stupidity of some people

But I do not think that all jokes of this nature are inherently wrong, just the people who actually believe them

It's made people really sensitive. Not those who should feel offended, but those afraid of offending someone. They're being so cautious that they're inevitably becoming the racists. So in short, racism creates conflicts everywhere. It's wrong.

snip, just doing this so you read my post
I hate when people make threads asking for everyone's opinions but don't even add one of their own. It's a poor attempt at getting a discussion going, and there is no depth to this one at all. You openly admit it is overdone, yet you still post it anyways, why would you do that? Do you expect anyone here to say racism is good? Not if they value their time here, they won't. All I'm saying is try to put some more discussion in a topic, instead of saying "racism what do you think?" and leaving the thread. If it is a badge you are after, they will come soon enough, man, don't worry 'bout it.

Anyways, racism is bad. Moving on. Or did you want to discuss specific aspects and scenarios, because I cannot tell.

EDIT: Grammar is very important to us, because to comment on your post, we need to be able to read and process it properly in our minds. If you have bad grammar and spelling, there is a high chance less people will spend the time trying to decode your post and they won't comment on it. You've been here long enough, you should realize that it is important.

Racism = generalization.

Generalizations = ill-informed, useful only for passive coping.

Sad conclusion = We all generalize, because we simply could not live without doing so. There is nobody who is not or has never been racist, to do so would require something other than a human brain.

Humans' abilities to consciously subvert natural processes means we can know it's wrong and ignore it even as we do it.

That's what people mean when they say "not racist".

Everyone seems to agree racism is terrible, but there is so much racism in the world. In other words, having threads about racism solves nothing. Sorry.

Racism is bad. On the other hand though, people need to get the sticks out of their ass about racist jokes. There's a reason that term is ended with the word "joke" and not "fact I believe completely."

Anything could be a joke. People could go around saying terrible things, and then say "Well, I was just joking!". One of the prerequsites to a joke, is that it should be funny. Also, there is a time and place for it. Going to see Chris Rock at the Apollo? Time for laughs, as he is a comedian. A guy using the N word on a subway? There's a different scenario.

Not big judgements like who to hire
That's actually not true...Minorities, at least in the US, have a better shot at getting hired because companies want to appear diverse. Bear in mind this is not based on skill, unless of course the white male makes the minority applicant look like they know nothing about the job they're applying for. But if the white male is of equal skill (Which isn't a problem) or even better at the job(To a point, but a problem either way), the minority will still get the job based not on merit but on the fact that if they do hire the white male, minority groups will complain. Minority groups are fairly racist, imho.

But we do have to get it to go away, and the only way to do that is to stop shunning its existence and kind of...embrace it. Consider the infamous "n word." Through common use it has lost all meaning as a hate term (Though I still don't know if I want to say it, personal preference).

It's quite silly.

though, sometimes every day things can be percepted as racist. For example, in the L4D2 demo, I was playing as the white gambler. We got split in to two groups, in one was me and the cocky white kid. in the other was the hot black chick and the fat black coach. I would hope that not many people read in to that.

Oh well ya sometimes it's just not funny. But I mean those people who are just way oversensitive about it, who'll get mad at an obvious joke. Which ironically it's usually white people, the only non-white friends I have know as many jokes as me.

I was a little disappointed they made the black chick a rocker instead of painfully stereotypical. That would have been hilarious to watch..."EY YOU BETTER GET AWAY FROM MY BRAINS 'FORE I SMACK YA'LL UPSIDE YO HEAD!"

nobody is ever going to say anything other than "it's bad/horrible/inhuman etc"
this is like asking "is rape fun to do at your grandmas" or "were nazis good friends with jews?"

you will not hear second opinions, unless we get into the history and psychology of the concept.

There are worse things. And there are degrees of racism aswell. Overall I could say I'm not a big fan. However, I don't judge people, including racists.

A lot of white people, in my opinion, just don't feel comfortable crossing that line with their black or otherwise non-white friends, because for a long time we have been made to feel like we are terrible people that have done terrible things because we were born the same skin color as people who made terrible choices in the past. There is still a lot of guilt there, and an ever-increasing trend of white people actually being racist... against other white people. It's like a race to see who can be the most politically correct, for a lot of us. It's just trying to make up for the past, even though we had nothing to do slavery or the Spanish American war or whatever else. I will agree that it sucks that everybody has to be so uppity all the time, but I personally would rather be cautious then to piss off a black guy, because they'll jump on me like I'm a koopa.

(See what I did? 'Cause black dudes can jump high? Please don't ban me, it goes to my point.)

This is over the line, don't try to force your opinions on everyone else. I've never protected my things because I see a group of black men or any of the other crap you mentioned. Maybe I was just raised with too much civility, but you would have to be pretty high on yourself to think that your opinion is the be-all end-all when it comes to race relations.

EDIT: So, once again, where is the thread starter? I even sent him a PM asking him to come back while he was online, and nothing! He didn't even share his views on racism! Does anyone else hate it when people abandon a topic, like, why even start it in the first place if you don't care?

Ellis is awesome.

On topic, i think racist jokes really should be shared ony between close friends who know they're joking, in a place where no one else can hear them.

I do not agree with this at all, I think you're just a bit racist and try to make yourself feel better with this arguement.
No. I am extremely racist. I also do not care what other people think.
However it is true. If you have ever made extra sure your property is secure just because a group of black guys walk past then you are racist. If you have ever been cut off by an asian and thought "fucking asian drivers" then you are racist. If you even hear about a crime on the radio and instantly think it would have been a black dude then you are racist. If you live in California yet think all these mexicans should learn english then you are racist.
I am happily just more honest than everyone else who likes to think they are better than they really are.
As I said, if you deny it you are either lying or an idiot. Which are you?
1.) I have made sure my stuff was secure when some black people walked by, because their demeanor made them look like low lifes, but then again, I would have done the exact same thing if two white people had carried themselves like that, so that is not always racist.
2.) One time I have thought "fucking Asian drivers" but it was more of an irony that the stereotype was true than an actual feeling that Asians are more likely to be bad drivers, I don't think they are
3.) In some areas, There is a higher proportion of Black Criminals than white (There are more crimes by white people, but in some places there is a higher percentage of the population of black people committing crimes than the percentage of the population of white people) so as long as you either realize that it is just your area, it is a result of oppresion against black people, or you think about white criminals just as much, it is sometimes ok to think of a criminal as black, after all, if you think of ONLY white criminals, you are under representing and thus being racist to blacks, so if you have NEVER thought of a criminal as black, one could argue that that is racist, instead of the other way around.
4.) Again with Hispanics, a randomly chosen Hispanic person is less likely to know good English than a randomly chosen Caucasian, so if you think: "I wish that Mexican person would learn English" that is alright, thinking "I with that all of these damn Mexican's would learn English" that is racist.

So no, I do not think I am racist, even though I have thought some of those, or variations of those things you have listed

PS You just got LOGIC BOMBED MOTHER F---ER!!!

PPS: 1.) Being honest doesn't make you a crusader, because you are racist, and saying that everyone is doesn't make you some well balanced person who is just saying what everyone is thinking, it just means you are racist AND want to feel more comfortable by labeling everyone else racist too
2.) Saying I am an idiot or a lair if I feel a certain way and then asking which I am is an absolutely idiotic thing to say, and saying I am an idiot or a lair if I feel this way doesn't mean its true, because I DO feel this way, and I am neither

Oh ya I'm complete;y aware it's the white guilt and political correctness. Which is actually why it bothers me so much. It's not that anyone actually believes I'm being racist, it's just taboo and I'm a bad person for ignoring that.

I think you're mistaking hateful racism for the only form of racism. Racism is to generalize the race at all, in any way. It's not bad at a low degree, it's natural. Anybody who denies being at least a tiny bit unhatefully racist is lying.
