It feels like there is not a whole lot to discuss on this forum. Not exactly a headscratching puzzler of a topic...

In todays society we have become to vigilante for racism of any kind that we are racists ourselves if we see a difference and claim it's racism.
Example: A few months ago in a newspaper a cartoon showed a black child and a white child drawing, the black child said to the white child, "look i drew a cat!" The white kid answers with allot of criticism in artist language commenting the colours and various shapes and forms and so on.
The black child responds by punching the crap out of the white kid.

Someone a few days later wrote to the newspaper and said it was racist that the black kid was portrayed as a violent person and primitive.
The cartoon intended just to show hate for snobby artists.
Someone pointed out that the person complaining was more a racist for actually seeing a difference between the two children by skin tone.

I think racism is just another way to try and dominate others and preserve you're own genetic material. In it's more aggressive forms (genocide, Hitler) it is the attempt to makes ones own genetics or characteristics supreme. That's all, really.

<a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9CSnlb-ymA>Everyone's a little bit racists sometimes. Racism isn't innately a bad thing. It is when people act upon it (especially on a large scale) that it starts to get bad.
Exactly, its people that make a big deal out of something that is in no way a big deal when it starts to become a big deal. People just need to chill out about some things and racism is definitely on that list.

Amen to that.

Racism.
Noun.
Definition: Simultaneously the worst mindset a human being can possibly have and also the most retarded idea in the history of sentience.

I like to think that this is the heart of the debate for today's standards. Since real racism in first world countries is pretty much dead, douchebags are scraping for reasons to slap the race card down. We've got nothing better to do, so the whole thing has become subverted.

And petty for the most part.

On the contrary some of histories coolest events have been "racist", in one way or another.

You see, it's that "one way or another" part that bugs me.
Your point is valid, but you're talking about history, not today.
In today's modern society, I can't imagine how an irrational and groundless belief that one group of people is inherently and unconditionally "better" than another group whose difference comes only from some totally arbitrary and irrelevant factoid is good or beneficial towards humanity in the slightest.

You're right.
Racism in the past has led to great and interesting things but, like Freudian psychology, it's salad days are over. It's come and gone, done a few gigs and signed a few autographs, that's it. Unfortunately, it suffers from a severe case of Rolling Stones Syndrome, in that it doesn't seem to know when to motherfucking DIE!

In summary: You are right, but my point stands.

Racism = Bad, simple really
This, with added "everyone are racist sometime".
Untrue. I am a mixed race man that grew up in a very diverse area near a military base and a large cargo port, so we saw a lot of people of all color all the time, and it was usually not an issue for anyone. I can sincerely verify that I have never acted upon, or have ever made any decision based on race. It simply isn't a factor in anything other than, say, describing what someone looks like.

So no, not everyone is a racist.

Edit:
And for the record;
racism (râ´sîz´em) noun
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
- rac´ist adjective & noun

Excerpted from The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Third Edition ©1996 by Houghton Mifflin Company.

Flamebait threads like these really never go anywhere because we simply cannot change minds. Either you're a racist and will rationalize/justify it, or you are not a racist and you will condemn it.

Exactly, the "everyone is a racist sometimes" excuse is a cop out for people that do have issues with race but that keep it to themselves.

And don't say about racist jokes either. It's quite one thing to laugh together about your differences, but quite another when it's a deliberate slur on someones race or religion.

Racism is stupid. Race doesn't even exist. It's a fiction. It's a concept instilled in society by dominant groups to maintain their sense of superiority, and this is visible in how views on which races exist and what race someone is differ from society to society. Besides, it's been proven that the average genetic difference between two black people is greater than the average genetic difference between a black person and a white person, and that the only genetic characteristics that differentiate the perceived races are four markers that control melanin levels, ie there is no such thing as race on a genetic level; nothing that makes us different. There is nothing that in any way elevates one race over another. It's all just irrational hatred and fear.

But, I also believe most people aren't racist. Most examples of perceived racism in everyday life are probably just instances of extreme stupidity. I also think that a lot of people have a knee-jerk reaction to perceived racism because they want to appear less racist themselves. In a truly tolerant society, there wouldn't even be that division there to begin with. I don't even notice skin-colour in real life - I wouldn't even think about the concept of race if the word 'race' hadn't been drilled into my head by the media as I was growing up. I don't think I even had an awareness of race until I was, like, fourteen or fifteen, and even then it never made sense to me. It's just an artificial concept that gets forced into our vocabulary.

I hate political correctness more than I hate racism.
Political correctness is scary, I want people to be able to voice their opinions, and I don't want this to be slowly taken away from us. Racist actions and organisations aren't as scary because I hazard a guess at them being run entirely by idiots, and so will never amount to anything.

Thank God. Someone finally put into words what I have been thinking this entire forum. Oh. and I think people who say everyone is a little racist don't understand the actual definition of racism.

This thread is bs.

Too many of you are liberal pussies imo.

Racism is there because people of different races prefer to be around their own kin. It will always be there.

Racialism, which is the acknowledgement that there are differences between races, but not necessarily a hierarchy, is good.
What you say is simply ridiculous. I have genuinely enjoyed being around people of other races just as much as I have spending time with other whites. And I certainly hope it won't always be there because more and more people are intermarrying now. Try and explain that. The only differences between races are very superficial. Cultural differences are another thing altogether. Oh, and while I am a liberal I am certainly not a pussy. I will confront bigots and idiots and I am not afraid to shed my blood for my beliefs. I just won't shed the blood of others. If that makes me a pussy then to hell with that sh*t.
