It's really missing the point. It is not that people do not take religion seriously enough to assign themselves an organised group, rather, by saying one is a Jedi, they are essentially telling the government "none of your damn business" and, despite being an aetheist myself, I wholeheartedly support it.

Legitimate religion, the Force is. Hmmm?

If there's an acutal church for Jedi then i'm gonna start a church for Captain Spaulding. I'm also gonna try and get Chinism to be a religion. (For those who may not know Chinism is where you celebrate the greatness that is Bruce Campbell.)

Here's a thought: instead of diverting all this effort and energy into trying to passive aggressively force people not to write down whatever, why not use all that effort and energy into explaining to the government that it doesn't fucking matter anyways?

Cause this is like someone walking up to their doctor going "oh gee, this cancer sure is giving me an headache", and instead of surgery and chemo the doctor prescribes some aspirins...

Treat the cause, not the symptoms.
A doctor does both - here's a pain pill to help you with the symptoms, I'll find a way to cure you in the meantime.

The census is NOW. No one is going to get the government to stop even worrying about religion NOW. I agree that governments should not be involved in religion. When the U.S. was formed one of the first things the founding fathers tried to do was to separate church and state. Hundreds of years later they are still not separate.

In the meantime, I think its a wonderful idea that someone is informing the public that their silliness is only hurting themselves.

If I were a legislator in the UK, I would want people to not lie on their census form for the sake of being ironic and contrary.
Let me guess, atheist? I'll say this though, I don't understand why England builds religious schools with the public budget. And if people are listing Jedi, why build an Anglican school?

Imo saying "it's a part of my religion" is a perfectly fine excuse for anything in our society as we bloody damn let people do what they want anywhere they want "because it's their religion", right?

Who are they to say that my religion doesn't involve carrying an overly large suitcase as hand luggage onboard a plane?

What? I'm an Athiest and I couldn't care less about people who think they're Jedi's. I care about the religions that are negatively affecting our laws and regulations and are constantly being poured down everyone's throat.

Religions should only affect people within those religions and this Jedi thing seems to be keeping to itself.

They seem pretty confidant! We therefore can't trust them, we all know only a Sith deals in absolutes.

"If your religion is of low enough importance to you to that you are willing to put in a religion from 3 good sci-fi films from years ago, and 3 more recent rubbish ones, please consider ticking 'No Religion' instead," the campaign writes. "By ticking 'No Religion', you will ensure that the Government receives an unambiguous message about the number of non-religious people in the UK."
Good films? GOOD FILMS?! How dare they! Try 3 excellent, genre defining, life changing films from some years ago. I know for a fact that had I not seen Star Wars as a child, I would likely not be the same person I am today. Star Wars was the catalyst for my true love of sci-fi, along with films and later, video games. Without Star Wars, I doubt I'd have developed an interest in space and astronomy, and I wouldn't have written all that awful fanfic years ago that led to my interest (and hopefully future career) in writing novels and for video games.

They may think that people are putting it because religion isn't important to them, but what they need to understand is that Star Wars is important to someone like me, so I'll proudly put Jedi down on the census forms, knowing full well what it means.

*sigh*

I find it sad the amount of people who don't get the reasoning behind this.

If we end up getting more faith schools because of falsly low number of non religious people;

on your head be it.

I hope you all know that some poltical party's base their campainges on the info the census gives out.

Wow, and I thought atheists were supposed to be the cool, humorous guys.

Way to break free of your stereotype, I guess.
