I don't care about who little it is or how much is going to who, i care about the fact that you seemed to think that the multiplayer involved shooting civilians, or you had to shoot civilians, or something along those lines, which was stupid in its own right.
I never once stated that Multiplayer had you shooting civilians. Not once.
Nope, but you did state that that was what the game had you doing, and considering this was a multiplayer only event, it implied implies that.

Blatant PR stunt is blatant. It may be good money, but it's a sleazy way of donating it.
True, very true.

Although, it might give me a chance to play it online for a little while. I suppose at least they are actually going to donate some of those huge wads of cash they got from the sales to a good cause.

On the cover it looks philanthropic but there's definitely more to this than just charity. A quarter of a million is a paltry sum, even if quite big, for such a gigantic company. Why not just give the money away instead of having gamers, exclusive to one console no less, play for it? That alone is enough to justify this as a publicity stunt, think outside the box for a while.

Dont try to make yourself look good Activision in the eyes of the uk gamers just because your price failed.Due to help from the retailers causing a price implosion in the uk for mw2 on launch day.
Wonder what those insaine collector sets with the NVG went for over there.
good question i will have to find out but i know a lot of retailers were selling the normal game for under £30 over here instead of the rrp of £50.

Moving away from the controversy (because I will not take part in such controversies of controversialness [I'll stop now]): I'm glad that it will be a free gold weekend.

I'm cynical because:

1. This is a PR stunt

2. The effect a charity can have on an on-going warzone is the same effect a toothbrush will have on a mouth with a rotten tooth in it... it's all well and good, but until you get rid of the problem, you're going to have escalation, meaning more problems.

The game does have you doing that. Multiplayer is merely a mode of gameplay.

Killing for a good cause, why the hell not?

Would be a perfect time for some double XP too, but see no mention of such things.

If I did own an XBox... I'd need a copy of the game as well. Shame they've not done for the PSNetork. Then I could contribute.

Seriously, "Let's get teens to play war criminals, so we can give money to victims of war criminals".

Vile.
Well Said.

I'm really in disbelief at some of the people in this thread.

It takes a very specific (and bitter) kind of person to look at the act of donating half a million USD to help children in wartorn areas and see it as a bad thing. Yes, it's for publicity and PR purposes. Does that in any way invalidate the act as a good thing to do? Not on your life.

It's really disheartening, to be honest.

Pretty much.

But let's change the subject (sort of)...does anyone know if the free Gold weekend extends to all regions, and not just the U.K? I managed to borrow MewTwo from a friend, but I don't have Gold membership. I got some free trial cards though, and I'd like to know if I could play without using said cards this weekend (I live in Canada).

Sorry Funk, but a game that has you gunning down civilians, giving money to gunned down civilians, doesn't sit well with me at all.
What don't you like about that? Welcome to war, the most casualties in any war are civilians. Can't take it? Too much for your refined values? *rolls eyes*

That isn't meant to be offensive, although I think a mod may disagree.. *scurries to post before getting banned. Again*

And for a retailer to actually give the money from the game away.. Yes it's a publicity stunt. But it's still 250, 000 pounds that they didn't have to give away.

On a theoretical note, if you bought an Xbox, MW2 and an XBL Gold account, would it be tax deductible since you're donating time to raise money for charity?

Guess what, if the money was actually going to help people in war torn countries, then I wouldn't be cynical. But everyone with a brain knows that out of any and all money we pump into any war torn country, a percentage will end up in the hands of the ones doing the hurting. So here's what I say, stop all charity, let em all fucking kill each other, have done with it, and the world will be far better off.

250k isn't even a fucking drop in the ocean. Unless someone can actually help these people, I mean literally end all the shootings, deaths, wars, whatever, then what is the point? All your doing is funding more hate.
lololol. So you're not angry at the game, you're just cynical because you know how the world works? Fair enough. I not only agree with you, I'd actually recommend hastening the situation in Iraq at least, in other places too if that proved successful.
