"You want to ban fucking violent games, you fucking bastard?! I'll fucking KEEL YOU!"

Has someone responded like that? It'll be sure to get our point across...

Or how about employ people to patrol our streets and detain criminals?

I love how people always link violent video games to violent people. Did Genghis Khan, Adolf Hitler and Jack the Ripper spend too much time playing GTA:IV or Manhunt?

Possession of bladed/pointed article in public place.
Subject to subsections (4) and (5)[defences] below, any person who has an article to which this section applies with him in a public place shall be guilty of an offence. - Criminal Justice Act 1988, s139(1).
Defences
(4) It shall be a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section to prove that he had good reason or lawful authority for having the article with him in a public place.
(5) Without prejudice to the generality of subsection (4) above, it shall be a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section to prove that he had the article with him- (a) for use at work; (b) for religious reasons; or (c) as part of any national costume. - Criminal Justice Act 1988, s139(4),(5).
Was that simple enough?
Nope, because the Violent Crime Reduction Bill actually overrides the Criminal Justice Act.
Prove is replaced by Show. As well as "the contrary is not proved beyond a reasonable doubt."

So the defendant must not only prove he has a reason, but show he has a reason and it's is only counted as a defence, not an acquittal.

So the gardener with a pair of shears needs to prove that he is about to cut hedges for instance, rather than just show he is employed to cut hedges. Subtle difference.

I think it went like this

Man: my son was killed by a knife this is horrible

government: wait your son was killed by a knife? we would like you to be our new advisor to tax videogames to stop these crimes

Man: hmm tax videogames to stop crimes.... that makes SO much sense I'll do it!

and then they taxed video games instead of knives even though people could use a whole host of things since they all knew videogames killed people not weapons how could a weapon kill anyone thats silly
/end sarcasm

this brings me to my next subject letting SMART people run the world I know it makes sense to have idiots do it but I think I'm on to something here
/actually end sarcasm

EDIT: and guys to escape this we should bank our money and buy a small island bring the things we will need to survive ( including guides on how to make things and fix them ) and not follow the current government if you think they are wrong and/or jackasses

If you're going to present something like this, do not bring in someone so VERY biased to it. Now it's very unfortunate what happened to his son, but knife crime has been on the rise in the UK without any help from videogames but largely from a wide unrelated variety of factors. How many people have actually been killed because of videogames compared to guns and knives and bombs?
The people who kill other people because of a videogame are sociopaths, they have no excuse no matter how hard they try and if you can't tell the difference between fiction and reality, what stops you from saying you were inspired by the movie Scarface or the original novel of Death Wish?

Signed up just to say this: what a load of BULL, A lot of people are saying the same general thing, but I wanted my say too

I have been playing many violent and 18+ games since before I was 10, and watching horror movies since I was 3!, including some Japanese stuff, and THAT is scary shit, I'm now 18 and have played many different games, from perfect dark to resident evil 5, GTA games, and more, and never once have a I wanted to pick up a knife and go stab someone, the only people who do this are drugged and boozed up twats, so get the point, doing proper drug sweeps would reduce it a lot, and idiots that aint drugged or boozed up do this kinda thing because they've been brought up by their parents to be that way, the kid can go kill someone in front of them, and the parents will say 'well done'!, THEY the ones that need to be taken away and put with a better family, me dad's next door neighbors are like that, the parents just don't fucking CARE what the kids do, Ive personally seen the older ones throwing BRICKS at the younger ones, and the whole house was burned down at one point, yet no-one does anything about it, sometimes it the parents that need a lesson on how they should act with their kids

At another point, sometimes when I (and also me father) actually get angry i sit myself in front of one of these games to calm down, better to kill a virtual man than a real one right?, if i cant buy games to do that, then what am i gonna do?! (this is theoretical, I aint insane)

Also on a side note, some of this needs to be related to the government, not much point in it sitting here in a magazine site's comments, people need to go shove reels of this in Brown's face
Well its long but i feel better, gonna go play RE5 to calm down after reading about this outrageous new thing government is doing to fuck up society

And the sad thing? This will most likely get made into law. Meaning i will be able to afford even LESS games than i already fucking do!
Edit: And in the U.K the kind of people who are out on ste streets knifing people are NOT gamers!
