Just want to point out that Biden, at the start of the year, added about $800b onto what the generals were already asking for (over 10 years, so $80ish billion per year)
Confused. You're saying the military budget for this year is 858 billion dollars?

Depends on how you count, but if you include slush funds and veteran's affairs, it's over a trillion.

"Official" budget, before the likely emergency spending stemming from Ukraine, is ~755 billion.

Oh, indeed. We wouldn't want soldiers and civilians in combat zones or, for that matter, outside combat zones and in entirely different countries around the world, to be getting an accurate picture of events to help make informed decisions. Better that we all engage in collective self-delusion for the war effort!
I am confused about what you are trying to imply. The BBC already had an article about fake news on both sides and specifically mentioned the ghost of Kiev as a very likely myth. It's actually funny to see how far deep you are in anti western fake news and propaganda you believe Western mainstream media is remotely as biased as the nonsense you read and spread.

The Ghost of Kiev is useful propaganda in Ukraine to boost Morale but it's not part of the fake news that is still widely spread as true in other countries.

Also funny how you like to mention this but don't care about the massive crackdown on factual news in Russia, where people are being spoonfed fascist dictator approved propaganda. Apparently only one kind of fake news is bad... the one trying to boost the morale of the victims...

When the US does budgets like defence, they usually do 10 years at a time

When they did the budget in January this year, the generals asked for a bunch of money. Biden said, "yes, you can have all that. And lets give you a whole bunch more.'

The extra money Biden gave them, above what the generals asked, was $800 b but (as stated previously) over 10 years. Which is $80B ish per year

Another example is Build Back Better bill. It was $1.7T but that's the total over 10 years. This bill was actually more frontloaded so half would be spent by year 3, so saying the spend year by year can be a misnomer

Russia for some reason is holding back some Su-35s, and Su-34s. Their best jets.
There could be concern that if one were downed, the Ukrainians might be able to extract wreckage to the West, which could then work out more about its capabilities.

Something like this has happened before. During the Hungarian 1956 revolution, some enterprising Hungarians drove a T-55 into the grounds of the British embassy. This allowed the British to assess it, from which the British determined the gun on their standard tank (the 20-pounder) would struggle to penetrate it, leading to the development of the famous L7 105mm.

I mean, the US, British and Russian did conquer Afghanistan... just not permanently
The area that is now Afghanistan has been part of various larger nations and non-indigenous empires for most of its history. The various incarnations of the Persian Empire, the Argead Empire, the Maurya Empire, the Kushan Empire, the Ghaznavid Empire, the Seljuk Empire, the Mongol Empire, the Timurid Empire, the Safavid Empire, the Mughal Empire.

The modern state of Afghanistan is relatively young, deriving from the indigenous Durrani Empire (the ones India loves to cast as the villains in their fascist propaganda films). The whole 'Graveyard of Empires' thing is sort of bullshit historically, Afghanistan has been a prosperous and stable part of of many, many Empires. It mostly derives from the ability of the Afghans in the 19th and early 20th centuries to preserve their independence despite being caught between the sphere of influence of the two dominant European powers of the day.

Incidentally, the Durrani flag is amazing. Check out this Lord of the Rings shit.

They don't put that in the films.

Sorry, I didn't realize Greek City Times, NYT, and MSNBC were Kremlin propaganda outfits. The more you know, I guess. 🤔

I'm not in Russia. And as far as I know, you aren't either. I don't consume Russian media; I don't speak Russian. All I've heard recently about Russian crackdowns on factual news reporting is that Russia recently outlawed making false statements about military matters (or something like that) and immediately a bunch of western news services stopped their operations in Russia.

Greek City Times... a source I couldn't find anything about except apparently at some point people accused it of having anti Albania bias. And since you are the first one I ever see bring it up I am going to assume it's trash.
As for NYT and MSNBC... Aren't those source you dismiss as Western propaganda outlets? Don't pretend you ever use those sources unless an article happens to go in line with the ideology spread by pro Fascism Twitter users you follow. Your main source over here has always been fake news twitter accounts.

Right... They outlawed making false statements about military matters not long after they ordered independent news outlets not to use words like "invasion" and "war", clearly this law (with up to 15 years imprisonment) is truly about "false statements" and not about "statements which are not in line with Kremlin propaganda". Do you manage to keep a straight face when you are being this dishonest?

And it's not like the timing even matters, when a government gets to imprison people for saying things about the government (of which the military is a part), warning bells should sound.

Except you never bother to show that what they're saying is false. You just trust that western war propaganda isn't saying the same thing, so it must be.

For example, Julian Assange.

Sure. Or any number of other people you could name (or who you can't because they were silenced more effectively), but Russia doesn't get a free pass because of the West's sins.
On the other hand, one is our business. The other is not. And yet the focus is reserved for that which isn't.

Western war propaganda as you present it doesn't even exist as numerous claims you have made about it are blatantly false. As already mentioned "Western propaganda" is much less one sided and blatantly biased as the shit tweets you post.

And we have already shown they are false. They claimed all these warnings about a Russian invasion was western paranoia and propaganda... oh wait.
Than there is the misrepresentation of Ukraine being a Nazi country despite far right parties having little success during the elections. And the rest you post is just typical Kremlin propaganda that isn't verifiable as it makes assumptions about Putin's state of mind. However circumstances have shown they are likely full of shit. Take this constant nonsense of yours about NATO. Ukraine was first invaded by Russia before they even brought back NATO onto the table. It was about EU adherence and the fact Ukraine having closer ties to the EU would lead to it being less dependent on Russia (and thus less likely to act as a client state like Belarus). It's just purely about imperial geopolitical interests. And you are very happy to throw Ukraine under the bus to serve Russia's imperial interests because it messes with Western interests.

BBC, CNN, etc. didn't stick around to find out.
Well be my guest and go test Putin's new law. Maybe 15 years in a goulag like prison will bring you back to reality.

Ah yes, because not being allowed to use the word "War" or "Invasion" without facing potential prison time is on par with facing prison time for leaking state secrets. The latter is common to all nations, the former only to shitty dictatorships.

State secrets like "hey, our military murdered some people and then murdered the first responders who arrived at the scene. And that's acceptable to our military and its civilian management, as no one has been disciplined for it. Still. Aside, naturally, from the people who exposed it!"

But, you know, liberty! Woohooo!!

Cause one is happening right now, and the other got attention previously which faded away, as things will?

Now, sure, it's really popular to point at the evils in some other country then in our own/allies, but then that doesn't mean we should ignore things outside our own borders.
