Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 DLC Plans Revealed

Need a new look for Dr. Strange? Ghost Rider looking a bit shabby? Capcom has you covered.

In a surprising show of transparency (and likely as something of a mea culpa for the aborted downloadable content plans of the original Marvel vs Capcom 3), Capcom has laid out its entire schedule of upcoming DLC costumes for the Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 cast.

Have a look:

Nov 22 - Rising Dead Pack (Jean Grey, Ghost Rider, Frank West, Nemesis)
Dec 06 - Evil Twin Pack (Spider-Man, Deadpool, Hsien-Ko, Vergil)
Dec 20 - Ancient Warrior Pack (Hulk, Magneto, Arthur, Firebrand)
Jan 10 - Brawler Pack (Iron Fist, She-Hulk, Haggar, Spencer)
Jan 17 - Femme Fatale Pack (Storm, X-23, Morrigan, Chun Li)
Jan 17 - Villain Pack (MODOK, Super Skrull, C Viper, Wesker)
Jan 17 - New Age of Heroes Pack (Dr Doom, Sentinel, Strider, Akuma)
Jan 24 - Animal Pack (Wolverine, Rocket Raccoon, Amaterasu, Felicia)
Feb 07 - Weapon Expert Pack (Taskmaster, Hawkeye, Zero, Trish)
Feb 21 - Viewtiful Strange Pack (Dr Strange, Dormammu, Viewtiful Joe, Phoenix Wright, Tron)
Mar 06 - Value Pack (All 48 costumes for $20.00 / 1600 MSP)

According to Capcom, each individual pack will set you back $4, regardless of whether you buy them via the PSN or the Xbox Live Marketplace.

As for those six DLC costumes the company did manage to release for Marvel vs Capcom 3, Capcom says that if you already purchased that pack, the new costumes for Ryu, Thor, Captain America and the rest will transfer directly over to UMvC3 free of charge.

If you're curious as to what is actually included in these costume packs, GameSpot has been putting together an incredibly comprehensive pictorial of all the additional costumes [http://www.gamespot.com/special_feature/marvelcapcom-final/image-feature/index.html?tag=topslot;img;3]. As loathe as I am to promote the work of others, it's a solid read for any fans of the series, and the pictures detail the ridiculous amount of fan service Capcom has planned for these DLC additions.

Oh, and that picture at top? Of Dead Rising's Frank West dressed as Mega Man? There's also a Mega Man costume for Zero [http://marvelvscapcom.wikia.com/wiki/File:310330_286992611332693_100000658687590_988952_303943615_n.jpg]. I think it's pretty apparent that Capcom is just straight up trolling fans of the Blue Bomber at this point.

Correction: The costume of Mega Man is actually for Zero. Protoman isn't in UMvC3.

Yeah, thanks, but I'll pass. I bought Street Fighter 4 twice and have learned from that.

Besides: the fights are fun, but looking at what UMvC3 offers and realizing what is still missing makes a purchase a far, far less attractive compared to what the 'Super' did with SF4.

Ack! You're absolutely right. I've got Dead Rising 2: Off The Record stuck in my head.

I'll edit that tout suite.

Feh.

OT: Looks like I'll be lighter in the wallet department come March 6th of next year.

All of those costumes look great!

....Why am I not surprised at all about this? I know Capcom was gonna do this from before, but still, it's just sad.

I'll just wait until they release MvC3: Megaman Edition. Because they totally will.

But Megaman X would play exactly like Zero does in this game. Having his name on the title screen would change nothing.

Did you even read the article? This is very minor DLC that is in no way a requirement and just a minor aesthic thing. Even more, it's been made clear by now that once made DLC these things don't go back, they never give away for free what was once purchased.

It's just sad that they'd provided additional content to those who enjoy the game? They already gave out a free DLC mode, I'm really unsure of what you people want, especially when their behavior is typical of every single other fighting game, and likely a requirement due to fighting game's niche market and high and continued development cost.

Yes, those Jill and Shuma-Gorath characters that were originally DLC, shame I have to buy them if I get Ultimate.
And I know it's not a requirement, and I'm sure the game is great, I just want a proper value for money thing and having to pay £15 (ish, I think) to get the full experience of the game doesn't really appeal to me.

Why do I think it's sad? Because when something says "ULTIMATE Marvel vs Capcom 3", I expect that this edition can not get that much better. Also, I don't really like companies that charge money for CLOTHES. Had it been an extra character, then I wouldn't have been as disappointed, I just would have wondered why they just didn't put the character into the game directly then just making a DLC for it.

They are re-releasing a game with the intentions of adding more content so that consumers have an incentive to buy it, but they are flat out saying they are withholding content that they could be adding for charged DLC. This isn't going to help them make money, it's going to discourage people from buying the overall product because this shows that they missed the point of releasing an improved version of a game.

Do they really think people are this stupid?

You don't have to rebuy them if that's what you are saying.

1) What Free DLC mode did they give away? Not that it really matters, since some of the "free" things that were promised for the first game were instead pushed into the paid package of UMvC3 (such as Spectator Mode) and never released for the first.
Spectator mode wouldn't have worked on MvC3s netcode. The game played like ass online, spectator mode would have made it completely unusable. [/quote]

2) Who really cares if Mega Man X fights similar to Zero? Sakura, Dan, Akuma, Ken, and Ryu all fight pretty much the same dang way
Sakura, dan, and Akuma play nothing alike. You are playing these characters completely wrong if you think they are.

Also, it isn't too hard to figure out how a ranged-based combatant (X), would fight even slightly different from a close combat specialist (Zero).
Except that's not the point of this game, the game was developed to keep the charecters as close to their original forms as possible while still functioning in a fighting game.
Arthur plays exactly like his character,
Haggar, Dante, and Vergil are so close to their characters that the same combos work.
V. Joe is exactly as V. Joe was in his games.
The same could be said of Marvel characters, though to a less direct extent. Magneto's speed was nerfed in UMvC3 for the simple sake of making him closer to his comic incarnation, while still keeping his much sought after competitive style available to players.

Another point in designing the game was to make sure everyone played drastically different in a roster of 50 charecters, that's not an easy feat, and the fact that you'd want a sup-par game with clones and color swaps (as MvC2 was very very guilty of) is really silly. you don't even play fighting games, do you?

3) The "minor DLC" argument could be made for the extra characters in UMvC3. You don't need Rocket Raccoon and Frank West, and neither does everyone else. Those characters could of been released as DLC same as Jill and Tentacle-monster were.
Characters in a fighting game are not minor. They are the equivalent of Shivering Islands DLC for Skyrim, while this patch of DLC is a collection of Horse Armor.
A single character with a unique play style adds tremendous shelf life to a fighting game, and more diversity and options in a competitive scene is ALWAYS desired.

I was being sarcastic about them being DLC which became free with Ultimate.
