Ahem.
So... We can all pretty much agree that in large, the video game industry is not very good in creating female characters. They have a tendect to make those a mere vessel for a physics defying pair of tits so that they could have a physics defying pair of tits on the game box' cover.

We are gamers. We like video games. Some of us are female. All of us are about four times as intelligent as the average game designer these days.

So... With this in mind, how do you think does your Perfect Female Videogame Character is like?
How does it look? What is her personality? What are her capabilities? Motivations? What are her realationships to other characters?
She does not have to belong to a specific game. Really. She can be generic or even belong to some kind of roguh theoretical game you have in mind.

Can we, the community, create a female character that is more then her boobs?

We shall see.

No they can't. No matter what qualities a female character in a game may have (strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility, luck, for instance) they will always have big boobs. That is how we operate.

I am not saying boobs are bad. Boobs are good. Very good.
I just think maybe we can create a character who is not DEFINED through her boobs.

Let me answer that by asking you this;
Can we make fireworks entertaining without blowing them up?
Can we make a good game about zombies without dismemberment being involved?
Can we make a good MMO without PVP?

Every single one of these questions has a definitive answer with logical reason backing it's ass up and the one you ask us is no exception.

Could one just not make a female character in the same way one makes any other in depth character? Can one just make one who is a little bit weird like the rest of us, a little bit crazy like all of us, and someone who is genuinely real. Maybe it's hard to do because we're all men ( I think. at least those posted so far are, right?) and we tend to see women as little more as love interests (or sexual objects. Or both) or we're afraid others will. Try creating a female character while being male in any tabletop roleplaying group of guys who are not super serious and you will see what I mean.

But as to the question, let's just make a nice human character with nice human motivations and flaws in the same way that the rest of them are made. Then just drop the Y chromosome.

It doesn't matter if a videogame babe is defined through her boobs.
As long as she isn't used as a tool for selling the game.

Alas,You can't agree on one due to feminism concerns and well, The general fact that a woman is nothing more then a thin piece of spaghetti with two melons nailed on (At least in video games. NOT IN REAL LIFE.PLEASE DON'T LYNCH ME)Otherwise the only other choice is princess peach, but that's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay outdated.

I'm a girl and I know for a fact that for a video game character to be popular, she'd better have melons.
I bet the little girl in FEAR 2 would have been more popular if she had big melons.

What about April Ryan from The Longest Journey? She's one of my favourite video game females, and shes got emotion, depth, and barely any bosom at all.

i disagree. alyx vance from the half-life series does not have huge boobs and yet is still completely awesome, and while jade, from beyond good and evil, has tits, they're not her selling point. though, i do have to admit that most female characters in video games are little more than shallow sex appeal (i'm looking at you, lara croft and all the DOA girls) the trick, in my mind, is not to make the girl's chest her best feature. i mean, let's face it: all girls have boobs. the trick with female game characters is going to be giving a girl boobs, without giving her F cups.

I know some very, very intelligent and interesting girls with boobs I can disappear between, never to be found, but they still have more to them.
Which remindes me: said girls sometimes complain about back pains and other negative boob related phenomana. While some are athletic, they are clearly impaired by their chests.
How do characters like Lara Croft manage to move like that, with all the flick flacks and rolls and three meter jumps with two watermelons stuck to their torsos?

Well, Alex is actually quite well endowed... They don't draw focus to it, though. Which is good.

The protagonist of Portal doesn't seem like much of a sex symbol, either.
