One example:

Had a Demo for that for the PSP, and it was really good... the kind of demo you love to play but would never actually pay for the full game... although I never saw it in any shops...

OT:Most games I mention to my real life(as opposed to those i met through internet) friends get me blank stares... none of my friends are gamers, but Primal is one I've never seen mentioned on this site... anyone else like it?
I liked it because of the characters, the worlds you visit(I have yet to complete it because i got it just before christmas, and as good as it is, It can't compete with the games I got for christmas between me and my brother[ACII, GTA:CW, Saints Row 2,MGS4 and Fallout 3])

Xyanide PSP never got a US release, to my knowledge.

The Xbox one is better.

Gah can't even find the box art for this game it's that obscure! Who's played this?

It's like Myst meets Salvador Dali meets LSD.

I like quirky games. Every so often I come across a gem that I find to be awesome, and then I realize no one knows it exists, and when I try to suggest it to someone, the result is usually a blank stare.

One example:

Released on the original Xbox, and developed in the UK of all places. Shooters are usually doomed to obscurity, but this one is especially unknown.

Somewhere in an alien galaxy lies the planet Mardar, a planet inhabited by humanoid people. These people have been worshiping a small-growing black hole called the Maelstrom as a holy execution tool for administering righteous judgment against their most heinous criminals, judged by a sentient machine called the Inquisitor. After a recent struggle, the people have successfully arrested the witch Aguira; a deceptive and destructive creature often disguised as a young girl, Aguira is sentenced to death by the people by being sent into the Maelstrom.

However, Aguira's transport vessel is struck by a nearby asteroid orbiting the sun, killing everyone on board but fatally injuring Aguira. To her surprise, the asteroid was rich in a chemical called Xyanide, a chemical known for its abilities to make an exposed person's thoughts become reality. Aguira uses the Xyanide - now pulsing in her blood - by creating her own space station and fighter squadrons at her command with herself as the ship's core to exact revenge against the Inquisitor and spread her destructive influence. It is up to the Bioship escort pilot Drake, Aguira's executioner, to stop her from accomplishing her goals.
The story kept my interest, and it also helps that the game is hardcore. The second highest difficulty level is almost beyond my comprehension. It's something of an arena shooter; the levels move along rails, while enemies appear around you. The ship fires at 360 degrees, with all kinds of firepower options.

It also supports custom soundtracks if that's your thing(which is a huge plus IMO).

So what other games are out there that you love that no one's ever heard of? Dig deep.

Persona's a niche series, for example, but it's got more than enough of a critical and cult following.

Bonus points if you explain what makes it awesome.
Jade Cocoon is what Pokemon should have aspired to be lie.
The Aventures of Alundra (a legend of zelda clone that was far better than any legend of zelda game, including Ocarina of time, sorry fanboys).
Vandal Hearts II (the first wasn't so good, but the second rivaled FF Tactics in sheer story and gameplay. Also one of the first top down isometric turn based strategical rpgs ( TDITBSR).
Haunting ground on the ps2, is a survival horror with a fairly lame premise, but a great atmosphere with gameplay that improves and expands on the old Clock Tower series formula.
Also a game I doubt anyone has heard of called Unholy War. So much insane crazy fun. Fighting games today could still learn alot from what that game had to offer. Innovation and originality coming out the wazoo for it's time.
I'd go back further, but I figured the PSone era had alot of good games that flew under the radar, whereas you guys most likely would know all the decent Nes and Snes titles from way back when. I hope I've inspired you people to look these up, as they are great games, but unfortunately are very hard to get hold of.
-edit- Also, Ecco the Doplhin on the Sega mega drive / Genesis was just great fun. Extremely ahead of it's time for when t was released. Still to this day I can't classify what genre you'd put it in.

Primal, ah that game took me ofrever to finish, just because I got stuck in the 4th world.
Easily one of the best ps2 games ever released that flew under the radar, which is a shame. Conceptally, and storywise it was amazing. The fighting left much to be desired, but the puzzle solving and charactr development were spot on! Good pick.

Ahh, yeah, I had a copy of that. Unfortunately, there was never enough sunlight/I never got outdoors enough to be able to play much of it, but what little I did play wasn't bad at all.

This was the first PC game I ever played. Some of the later levels got ridiculously tricky, but I still look back at it so fondly. Another PC one I loved was Dungeon Keeper, probably not the most obscure game in the world, but not many seem to have heard of it these days. That game was so good, it made me want to cry.

An extremely obscure game i've yet to see someone post is "LSD" on the Playstation 1.

Boxart:

From what i remember the game was first person and whenever you touched anything (a wall, a statue, anything) the game would take you to a different place, and after either a certain time or after touching enough things the game would return to the menu screen. Each of these was called either "dream" or a "day" (i don't remember). There is also a graph that you can display showing how each of these "days" played through in certain catagories (such as horror, etc). For proper information look up the game itself, this was writen from memory of playing the game a long time ago.

'War Planets: Age of Chaos' is definitely an obscure game. Released in 1997 it was one of the last commercial MS-DOS games ever. It was never released in AUS so i never had the chance to play it. :/

Here is an ingame screen shot.

Not sure if it's obscure but out of everyone I know I'm the only one who's heard of it.

RF Online, because it was that awful, and also Blinx, because no one wants to remember it.
Never speak of that game again!

Oh god, the fail... it burns!
...

Now that I've regained consciousness, I submit Red Alarm, for the Virtual Boy, of all things.
It was fairly simple, all you did was fly and shoot at red wireframe enemies, but it was still pretty cool.
