I was looking at your avatar. And I borrowed Uncharted from my brother with no prior knowledge of the game's actual content so I was genuinly playing it for the first time ever. I didn't even look up any YouTube videos or Wikipedia's article about it.
I don't think I would ever dock you for that, honestly. It's best to give the closest fresh opinion, because the longer you wait, the longer it either raises on a pedestal or festers in a pit of suck. Just realize your view on racism is very, very tight. There are very few who are going to have that mindset. My father and I are local supported of Tuskeegee Airmen and the amount of respect those men earned during WW2 is unfathomable for being African American during that time frame. I have personally been able to shake hands with most of them and consider it an honor.
Believe me, I love gaming, but to view RE4 or RE5 as racist, even after the changes Capcom has put in it to avoid more and more flak is also troubling... there is a point to not be offensive, but make things too politically correct and we start sheilding people from something they can themselves should be able to form an opinion about, sadly, for either right or wrong.
When I saw RE5 for the first time, I saw amazing game play and never saw race. When that Pure Pwnage parody came out, some said his Nahtzee was a play on Nazi, when even after think about it I only really heard Not-Tzee, or Not Yahtzee.
It seems you really need to focus on not on the superficial outside of these games but play them and realize that where the characters are and what they are doing is based around a setting and story, one that involves an ever growing scale of the virus and it's mutations to be growing globally.
I haven't heard you hating on Crysis, either. You shoot North Koreans in that. I guess that's horrible, as well... unless you realize their goal is to harness an alien power to use as a mass murder weapon of war. I'm sorry, but hugs and words aren't going to stop psychopaths. (You can tranquilize your way through that game, until the aliens. Is killing other worldy beings ok?)
And I'm sorry to who quoted me above that you deal with ignorance. I'm glad I'm part of a new generation then. I Go to a school and my group of freinds involves many different nationalities, races, religions, etc. Everyone is open and caring. It's ignorance that breeds hatred and I, sadly, cannot change that. If you choose to let it get to you, then they win. I'm not turning a blind I, but I would rather be hopeful in this position.
At lunch, asked a black co-op friend about what he thought on RE5. He said "Racist?,... seriously, no. Looks like a great game, that's what I think."
Be educated, be smart.
