Left 4 Dead - "Get To The Choppa" Challenge!

Can Jim and Yahtzee work together while also trying to be the first to reach safety? Not if all these zombies have anything to say about it!

What a delight to see Jim and Yahtzee take on my favourite Left 4 Dead finale.

Though it's too late, I feel the need to note that the AI only run into hordes if you run near the hordes, so it's almost like a reflected stupid.

That first attempt was hilariously pathetic. I'm pretty sure they couldn't have staged that if they tried... Also L4D is vastly improved by that background music.

Really? I didn't particularly like the music replacing everything. I prefer reduced game sounds rather than a separate audio track, because the latter always seems to drown out the commentary a bit (not to mention the looping).

Anyways, a good match. I thought Yahtzee was carrying the shotgun so he could efficiently dispatch Jim when the helicopter arrived, but he was done in by his own mistake before I could find out if I was right.

I love the background music, it fits the action perfectly. I keep clicking my fingers in time with it, if that makes sense.

I find it funny that so far all the action carnage matches have gone to Jim, while Yahtzee's sole win has been for a Youtube-fodder Steam game about half-naked muscle-men with spinning wangs climbing on each other. It's the opposite of what you'd expect from the two of them.

Ah L4D, a fantastic game for co-op shenanigans.

I swore Yahtzee was going to get it as he was heading towards it first, but I guess him going ahead was his downfall with the hunter waiting.

So coop-ing is an option? The siren's call of Saints Row is growing louder!

Edit: Or you could play a one-on-one match of "catch the rabbit" on... carmaggedon!

A L4D match was the last place that I expected someone to mention Robert Kilroy Silk but it made me laugh.

Next weeks game should be CastleStorm, either a Verses match or a co-op hero survivel match.

All those poor viewers right now, googling Robert Kilroy Silk, do yourselves a favour and type "the day Kilroy lost his mind" into youtube. It won't make you feel better, exactly, but I think you'll find it strangely cathartic.

Perhaps now, with Yahtzee down 3-1, isn't the best time to bring this up, but...I'd like to see a Final Fantasy orientated challenge happen. If anyone has any ideas how that might work?

Yahtzee needs to fix his recording setup to prevent the game sound from becoming so horribly loud when he is silent. It also happens in "let's drown out"...

As a veteran left 4 dead 2 (counter-)troll, merely mulling over the potential shenanigans I could've pulled in this scenario is making my pants tighter. You guys absolutely sure you never want to do the same event twice? I'd gladly give some pointers for round two, I have such wonders to show you... :)

This is an odd choice. I'd think the best stage for a competition would be Left 4 Dead 2's The Bridge (last map in The Parish), since you can just make a race of it. Whoever makes it farther wins.

P.S. Thanks

Man, I was expecting them to be a lot better at this. Ah well, Jim sneaks his way to a win once again.

Um... not familiar enough with Jim to predict his opinion, but I get the feeling Yahtzee would forfeit that one out of spite no matter how bad that makes his score. Maybe a two out of three versus in Dissidia or the sequel, but neither are familiar enough with it to fight well and the health system takes some getting used to. Although it might be a good stress reliever if certain characters were chosen...

Kill score competition in Star Wars Battlefront, perhaps?

I was kinda expecting the helicopter to land before the whole everyman for themselves. So I was disappointed by the result.
Did I assume wrong about the rules?

Why they hell didn't they do the scavenger mode? One player is a special zombie, one player is a survivor. First team to 2 wins, wins!
Come on guys! Just playing the game isn't entertaining!

I just busted out laughing in the end when Yahtzee got pinned by the hunter just as the chopper arrived.

The insults at the end are getting better too. I think there is space for some team-based games too, that would be a good idea.

So, a funny idea actually came to mind.

Twisted Metal Black, invincibility code engaged, both men trying to ring each other out for instant death by any means necessary.

As an American I had to look up who Mr. Kilroy-Silk was. From what I can gather it's kind of like if a Maury Povich/john Stossel hybrid became a senator.

That is pretty damn awful.

Here is a suggestion: Rogue Legacy: Scenic Route

Each player start a game of Rogue Legacy from scratch (you might want to skip the intro sequence). The winner is the first player to visit all 4 different areas of the game (The Castle, The Forest, The Tower and The Darkness). It doesn't have to be with the same hero, and there is no limit on how many times you can die and start over.

I'm pretty sure that'd be a whole season worth of material, not a single episode :p

I think the problem was that poetry didn't get enough views to warrant a show. Maybe they could see who can consistantly talk in rhyme the longest while playing something you really have to pay attention for?

I tried it out, it took me 5 minutes before I got to the forest, and the other areas aren't harder to reach, they are just harder to play in, but that is not part of the challenge. In normal play simply reaching those areas is not useful, so you wouldn't try to get there as fast as possible, but it is not actually that hard, and it may with some layouts be almost trivial to do so. I propose this exact challenge because I believe that at least one of them should be able to do it in around 15 minutes.

True enough. Rather depends on Jim and Bens playing ability though, and from what I've seen, neither of them are fantastic gamers :p

Co-op is an option now? Sweet. Try doing something in Halo 4, like who can rifle-butt the most aliens. Or one of the Assassin's Creed Multiplayer modes, and make a challenge of the most haystack kills.

Very funny banter guys. I could smell the festering hatred underneath your veneer of buddy-buddy talk. And I liked the cracks at the A.I.
If there's one more thing I could ask from this series, it's a full video of the "Uncivil War" song by Gavin.

For the record Jim died first on the first go, if only by about 2-3 seconds.

Also the banter kinda fizzled at the end there.

Oh Yatzee is way better at this than Jim, and your even playing it on normal "the easy mode". But then he started using minigun and it all went downhill from there for him. the minigun is badly positioned for defence on that map, dont use it. on expert each common infected gives you 10 hp damage, youd be dead so fast :p. also in competitions like these always pick shotgun. its just an easy way clearer. not that other weapons are worse, but they take much more skill in tight situations.

What dissapointed me is that you took damage before getting otu of the building. you shouldnt take damage there at all.

Also: turn off your flashlight. it attract zombies.

Fully loaded automatic shotgun will kill a tank alone if your close enough on medium. so yatzee could have soloed a tank.

I doubt your going to be continuing to play this in the future, but if you ever want a third non-bot player i would love to play with you, and not many people play this game anymore so finding random players may not always be easy.

thats true for most reviewers and i think i know why. when you got to play through many different games quickly, sometimes even rushing to get to the deadline you dont have the time to get good at the game. you cant just dedicate a month to a single game, ect. so they never get good at it in order to get a lot of it. But thats fine, dont have to be a pro player to review games. still when i saw this video i cringed at some rookie mistakes, and from the sound of it Jim has played it before too.

So this was basicly the room for one mutation in l4d2? Would have been way more fun with l4d2 The Parish finale, which is also getting to a helicopter just you can race the whole way. If they decide to try l4d2 then they could do a scavenge variant or something, not necessarily a scavenge game but maybe a game of collect the most cans in the Dead Center or The Passing finales.

I kinda want to see them doing a challenge in Saints row 3 or 4. That game has plenty of shenanigans to be had, especially with everyone's favourite purple melee weapon. SR3: longest person to survive with only a melee weapon with cop/gang rating level 5. Also I do believe that SR4 came with multiplayer battle minigames?

Good luck to Yahtzee for future battles! You have to win some of them!

I really want to like this show, I really do, as it shows potential..but that music? Why?

There's no game audio, which may be due to recording issues.. but then why add that annoying as hell music? It's really offputting.. I stopped watching after 4 minutes or so. It would be so much better if you'd remove that guitar music and just let the game sounds back in. Even just removing the music (or decrease its volume by like 60%) and only keep their voices in would be better.

Yathzee did, indeed, win the challenge by technicality. He died last by a slim fraction, enough to be noticeable to the people who get to see both videos. I even have a screen cap... but there's no point unless one of them calls for an instant review thing like in football (the kind you get to play with your hands).

Age of Empires should be next. Or Empire Earth.
Or, if you want to go all-out long-time: Some part of the Anno series.
Strategy game, is what I'm saying.

Incredible, I was actually cheering Yahtzee on so he and Jim would tie it up this week but I have to say that the entire end of the video made me laugh. Yahtzee may have lost but it was just the perfect storm of shit going wrong right at the end that it made me laugh from both the banter and also out of sympathy. I too get a good run in many games and then get shafted right at the end by some sheer stroke of terrible luck on part of the forces that be. I'm the worst roller in our D&D group as well. Hats off to you, Yahtzee. You'll get 'em next week.

That wouldn't work because Yahtzee absolutely HATES strategy games. He would never agree to that, even for our entertainment.

There wasn't a technicality - both players were still alive when the game 'ended' the first time - it just went straight to game over since both players were incapped and there was no way they could recover. Note that Yahtzee's screen was playing about half a second behind Jim's (you can compare events early in each stream to check). Also, Yahtzee probably would have died first, since he had a Hunter ripping him to shreds, whereas Jim just had a horde of zombies kicking him while he was down.

Still, this was fun. I'm still waiting for the Spiderman 2 Webswing Racing Challenge though...

Luftrausers.

1. Whoever can shoot down the Blimp first with a Rauser of their choosing
2. Whoever lasts the longest in SFMT (best 2 out of 3 due to SFMT being unpredictable) with the Original Rauser... or even better, the Spook (Missiles, Heavy Body, Gungine)
3. Whoever gets the most points with a completely randomized Rauser in normal mode.

Also, Strategy games are boring as hell to watch unless it's one built around being face paced, like any C&C game after and including Red Alert 2. If it's Empire Earth, nobody wants to watch them gather resources for five minutes before they can produce a dude with a club.

Playing L4D2 and watching this makes me want a L4D3 even more with more scenarios, more weaponry, larger levels, more interesting Director that can actually change the layout of levels properly, etc.

Edit: Btw, FUCKING ESCAPIST, GET RID OF THE FUCKING CAPTCHA! IT'S A SHITTY ASS SYSTEM!
