NOOOOOOOOOO! You've attracted the annoying anti-mainstream people who are only going to list extremely obscure bands! Instead of bands you've heard of, that are still under-rated.

OT: Stone Temple Pilots is always over-shadowed by Pearl Jam (my favorite band) and Nirvana.

i bet we get loads of people listing obscure death metal bands that are only known in sweden. But I guess I'll go with someone like The View. I know they're quite popular but I still think they deserve way more appreciation because they're really talented musicians, and they have cool arangements e.g using strings and stuff instead of just typical instruments from that genre.

3 Inches of Blood

They are really amazing, and I barely hear anyone praising them.

Green Day.
Whaaaaat!? What did you think I'd say? I mean, honestly, a lot of people really hate them, and think they sold out with the American Idiot album.

I only have two bands I like that you could call underrated;

Rhapsody of Fire-They arn't really underrated, but they arn't as well known as they should be.

Iron Fire-They're really good, not hugley complex, but they're still very fun to listen to. No-one I've ever met has heard of them.

Burn In Silence was good when they were around, can't believe they broke up to be honest, when I was talking to their lead vocalist after a show one night he made it sound like they had big things ahead of them. Check em out if you're into All that Remains or Killswitch Engage type music

Negura Bundet are brilliant. I saw them live a couple of months ago, great show.

As for underrated bands? Well, Iced Earth, Sonata Arctica and Grand Magus really need more recognition in my opinion. And to be annoying have some obscure ones: Cinders Fall, Phyrexia, Reaping Havoc and Ragnarok.

Now I envy you.

As for underrated bands? Well, Iced Earth.
And I agree with that. They are heavily overshadowed by some of the other 1980's Metal bands like Slayer,Metallica and more.

Micachu & The Shapes! The Waterboys! Victim Effect!

But seriously, I think Sunny Day Real Estate (or at least Diary) are really underrated by most people because they're emo. Also, The Receiving End of Sirens don't get enough credit for the experimental aspects of their music because people can't get past the post-hardcore label.

And on the anti-topic, I think Deathspell Omega are massively overrated in the black metal community. I mean, I enjoyed Si Monumentum... as much as anyone, but their fans act like it's the goddamn second coming.

streetlight manifesto is an enjoyable ska band
I think everyone should hear streetlight, because they're the kinda band everyone can enjoy (apart from those kids who refuse to listen to anything other than simple plan or whatever). But yes I agree, they're very underrated/unheard of

I don't have time to go embed their songs, but fucking Ram Jam. Seriously, I'm not a huge Southern Rock person, but they're so much better than Lynrd Skynrd.

Chevelle, although their lead singer can be a little irritating at times.

Gus G, awesome guitarist.

Sugar Ray. Everyones knows them from Fly, but that really doesn't represent them! Far better songs (from that same album) would be Invisible, Cash, and American Pig.
