The band Death. Good old chuck invented death metal and yet barely anyone knows about him. Death never tried to be brutal but be actually good at death metal.
RIP Chuck
Very nice! Totally new to me, and totally great.Ziltoid said:tool is great, lateralus is a classic album for sure. But i personally believe the greatest progressive rock/metal band is porcupine tree. Steven Wilson, the singer, songwriter, lead guitarist, and producer is insanely talented. He actually produced three of Opeth's albums, Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Damnation.
If you can spare 5 minutes, i seriously recommend checking out this live video, shows alot of their different styles in one song.

Im pretty sure Cannibal Corpse is the best selling Death metal band ever. Also that the fact that people have asked me if I listen to C.C. I reply with "Not really I prefer Death," then people will say "What the hell is Death?"TSED said:... They're the best-selling death metal band of all time. I like a lot of his songs and I'll sing along in the car, but he's too much of a novelty act for me to recommend to other people. It's the sort of thing you need to stumble on and look up. He's hard to sell.Lord_Coinage said:Jonathan Coulton, anybody?
TOO RIGHT. There are two kinds of people in the world, those who've heard of Tom Waits, and those who haven't. The guy's been turning out classics for nearly 40 years. He's a great pianist and a brilliant lyricist. He's been covered by the Eagles, the Ramones, Bruce Springsteen, and Rod Stewart. He wrote a song for one of Johnny Cash's last albums. He did vocals for two Primus songs. He's won two Grammys. AND I'VE NEVER MET ANYONE WHO'S HEARD OF HIM!QuirkyTambourine said:I'd say that Tom Waits is underrated in general, most people write him off simply because he has a voice that's hard to listen to at first. His music's great

"Cannibal Corpse reached over one-million in record sales worldwide in 2003,[1] including 558,929 in the United States, making them the top-selling death metal band of all time."
"As of 2008, Death have sold over 1.5 million albums worldwide, with 368,184 copies sold in the US alone (excluding sales before the SoundScan era) making them one of the top-selling death metal bands."
(I can also see Amon Amarth and Dethklok giving them competition, but I didn't see any quick sales information and didn't feel like an in-depth search for it).
So, I guess you were right. Still, over 1.5 million album sales is not 'underrated', especially for death metal. Definitely up there.
And let's get this right, folks. Death didn't invent death metal, they popularized it. Possessed's Seven Churches was the first death metal album released, for example. A real metalhead would know that.
(Not really, now I'm just teasing.)
