The most underrated game ever is Prototype. It's the first and only game where you can run around an open world and brutally murder people with no punishment whatsoever. The people who criticized the graphics and story completely missed the point of the game. It's like criticizing Superbad for not being scary.

Kameo, Prey, Heavy Rain, Just Cause, Quake 4 and Doom 3 are ones that come to mind.. ill have another think
Just Cause on the PS2 sucked.
I never played the PS2 port but I loved it. Ill admit it was buggy, but still was quite fun.

Just cause 2 absolutely blows it away though.
Wait, PS2 port? Wasn't it a PS2 exclusive? And Just Cause 2 isn't all that amazing as well, but it certainly is better than the original.
If memory serves me right, it was released for Xbox, Xbox 360, PC and PS2
Oh. Don't worry then buddy.

Agreed man, Prototype was a fun game, especially end game as you become so powerful you can kill hundreds of people almost too easily.

I was playing my old xbox when i found myself thinking about underrated games.I'm aware this topic has been done to death but what underrated games would you recommend? particularly for the old xbox.
a bunch of underrated games i recommended are
Condemned criminal origins (xbox 360 I know)
jade empire
call of Cthulu Dark Corners of the Earth (I'm aware i most likely spelled Cthulu wrong)
You spelt Cthulu just fine, and for me I'd have to Vampire Rain was underrated. Everyone hated it, but if you gave the game a chance it was actually quite a difficult and challenging little stealth game. And I do mean stealth in bold bleeding red massive letters. If you're spotted, you're dead basically.
Also, Dark Void. If you're anything like me when I was younger, I was utterly obsessed with the Rocketeer. The entire game is a freaking tribute to the Rocketeer, with aliens and some plot about the end of the world thrown in. If you ever wanted to feel what being the Rocketeer would be like, Dark Void's the game for you!

Misadventures of Tron Bonne and Megaman Legends. Nice to see one of the older franchises not just re-using the old formula.

Also Illusion of Gaia. Earliest game I can think of where the hero is using dark powers.
