Generations change dramatically. What is considered good now will be considered old and terrible in a decade or two.

You also need to realize that teens, (Not all of course) tend to keep up with what is considered "popular." The Jonas brothers, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Etc. Are all teens who have fame, money, looks. Teens relate to them. They find them good and think that if they are like them they will be better people for doing so. Many of the older generations can't stand them. Older teens like myself don't like them or just don't care.
It happens every few years.
When the Beatles became popular with the masses, parents of teens back then saw them as bad examples for things such as, "Their hair is so long they need to cut it!" "Listening to them will make you do drugs!"
Those teens are now adults now and can't stand anyone who disses the Beatles. So guess what? You're becoming what your parents were when something became popular. You have reasons not to like it while they have theirs. Does that mean their stupid? No. Its a new time, a new sound, and everyone has taste. And No, you are not better than them because you think your taste in music is more, "Legit and hardcore."
