I'm probably gonna regret starting this thread, but it's been bugging me for a while now, so here goes: Why do people hate Justin Bieber so much? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan by any stretch of the imagination; I couldn't name any of his songs to save my life. But I don't get why so many people seem to hate the poor kid's guts to the point where he must honestly worry about getting shot every time he walks outside. Seriously, what the hell? You don't like him or his music, that's fine, just ignore him. Why all the seething bile? And don't tell me it's because he's everywhere, because it seems like most of the media exposure he gets (at least that I've seen) is about how he's universally hated, so if people hate him for being all over the media, then they really only have themselves to blame. It's almost like self-chastisement; people hate something, but instead of ignoring it, they focus on it obsessively to the point where they become every bit as pathetic as the fans they claim to revile so much.
While we're on the subject, are there any other people/groups/whatever that you've seen who seem to get way more hate than they deserve? Please don't tell us about how your favorite whatever is so horribly hated because it is teh shiz omg sooo kewl etc.; I'm not interested in fanboy/fangirl raving, and I'm pretty sure no one else is either. But what about the times when you weren't a fan of something but still figured that it couldn't be that bad? (Another example might be the Spice Girls back when they were still relevant; God damn, people really hated them! There were even Flash games devoted to Spice Girls hatedom, meaning that someone had to be so thoroughly steeped in loathing that they actually took the time to program a game to express it. See my point above about becoming the thing you hate and you'll see why this is so deliciously--and tragically--ironic.)
