I'm probably gonna regret starting this thread, but it's been bugging me for a while now, so here goes: Why do people hate Justin Bieber so much? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan by any stretch of the imagination; I couldn't name any of his songs to save my life. But I don't get why so many people seem to hate the poor kid's guts to the point where he must honestly worry about getting shot every time he walks outside. Seriously, what the hell? You don't like him or his music, that's fine, just ignore him. Why all the seething bile? And don't tell me it's because he's everywhere, because it seems like most of the media exposure he gets (at least that I've seen) is about how he's universally hated, so if people hate him for being all over the media, then they really only have themselves to blame. It's almost like self-chastisement; people hate something, but instead of ignoring it, they focus on it obsessively to the point where they become every bit as pathetic as the fans they claim to revile so much.

While we're on the subject, are there any other people/groups/whatever that you've seen who seem to get way more hate than they deserve? Please don't tell us about how your favorite whatever is so horribly hated because it is teh shiz omg sooo kewl etc.; I'm not interested in fanboy/fangirl raving, and I'm pretty sure no one else is either. But what about the times when you weren't a fan of something but still figured that it couldn't be that bad? (Another example might be the Spice Girls back when they were still relevant; God damn, people really hated them! There were even Flash games devoted to Spice Girls hatedom, meaning that someone had to be so thoroughly steeped in loathing that they actually took the time to program a game to express it. See my point above about becoming the thing you hate and you'll see why this is so deliciously--and tragically--ironic.)

Because it's popular to hate him. He suffers from that. It's like the PSPgo. It's like Halo. It's like Half Life (Which is split between love/hate it seems.) They're all popular to hate, so people hate them so they can be part of the group.

Mostly because Bieber has a fandom that swears he's the next god of music (which will last for about one or two years, all male pop stars seem to last that long before being utterly forgotten these days) and thus the hatedom has to be greater than or equal to it's lunacy. That tends to be how it works anyway.

Hmm ... Bieber ... I don't "hate" him as such, more like I am ideologically opposed to him.

1. In all the sonmgs of his I've seen, he has always been with some random 'other' whom I dislike.
2. The songs of hsi I've heard have been a little bit sexist/whiny.
3. He creates a cult following (by accident I'm sure) and anything that has a deeply devoted following causes my stomach to begin producing fireballs of cult-related-death.
4. He's bloody everywhere and it is really annoying.
5. He's one of those people I look at and go 'You aren't that awesome ... you may be considered cool but you are, by far, not awesome enough to be both straight and have that dorky 'I'm bisexual because it's cool' haircut.
6. For a lover of science, I can rely a bit to heavily on my gut feelings sometimes, and in his case, my gut says "Here's your lunch back".

NOTE: None of this is 'flaming' (I hope) it is just me answering the question as truthfully as possible.

Its cool and entertaining for people(especially on this site) to hate popular things.

The fact that that is how some people on this site get their kicks is silly at best.

I don't hate Beiber for what he is, but what his fans make him out to be.

He's a 'decent' singer, but I've heard a lot of amateurs better than him. I don't like his music, and I really don't see why hes a celebrity when there are much better people just ignored.

People just seem to caught up in the hype. I hate Beiber's fans more than Beiber. These fans are gonna see a Beiber grow up, develop an ego the size of mars, fall flat on his face and live the rest of his life forgotten. Another tragic figure.

edit: also the fact that everywhere I look and every channel I turn to eventually has to show Beiber for some reason or the other doesn't help really.

That's exactly my point. Give it a year or two and he'll go away on his own; on the other hand, violently and vocally hating on the exposure only seems to prolong it.

Well, to be fair, they tend to last regardless. It's more about when the next non-threatening boy/boy-band shows up to fascinate little girls with horrible music that further destroys the music industry. Really, they can only last so long because eventually they just become creepy guys with an audience far too young for them.

People hate Justin Bieber because he's famous, but completely untalented. He's also a massive douchebag.

The only person I hate is Bobby Kotick so I guess its not unjustified. That money grabbing ********** needs to **** his *****.

Anyway I guess jews get a lot of hate even though they haven't really done anything recently to warrant it

I don't think I truly hate anything.

Well, except for minimalism, especially musical minimalism. A series of five notes repeated with slight variations for a few hours does not noteworthy music make.

I think the "hate" is actually not directed at the person/game/whatever but at the usually
unjustified hype around them. It can get to ones nerves quickly.

True enough. But let's be honest, Justin Bieber is in no way cutting into Rihanna's profits; their respective fanbases don't overlap a hell of a lot, so it's not like there's only room for one or the other. Insert whatever artist/singer you like in place of Rihanna, and the result is the same. So arguing that any given artist is destroying the music industry is like arguing that one bad beer brand destroys the whole beer industry. Hell, some people like PBR, and think whatever you want, but no one's forcing you to buy it too.

Probably avatar, remember how much seething hatred there was for it when it was released?
