Haha, i've got the Firefox Beiber Blocker, so every time someone mentions him, its blanked out, the whole thread is basically blacked out. I'm loving it, useful for when im surfing the web too.

I remember when my neices came up to me and asked me if I liked Justin Beiber. I responded by saying "Who the hell is Justin Beiber?" They were shocked that I didn't know about him.

That was the day I realized that I am old.

Its cool and entertaining for people(especially on this site) to hate popular things.

The fact that that is how some people on this site get their kicks is silly at best.
Or they actualy dont like his music or these 'popular' things...
OT: I dunno they just don't like his music not sure they HATE him though.

I hate Justin Bieber because he represents a significant facet of popular culture where style is regarded as hugely more important than substance.

People love him because his music sounds nice (apparently) and he is "liek omg so totally hotness" (again, apparently), but completely disregard the fact that the songs he sings have the emotional and intellectual depth of a frying pan.

But no... It doesn't matter to the fans. They don't want song lyrics that mean anything. They want to see some dickhead say "baby" alot.

He could easily stop it all by either singing some real lyrics or by not singing all together, but no... He wants the money and fame...

I can't blame him for that, but I sure as hell can hate him with everything that makes me human.

I also have a strong hate for "communities". Fans spoil everything. The metal community is the worst thing about metal (go to youtube and read the comments for any metal song). Gamers are the worst thing about gaming (just look at the retarded discussions that take place on this site). Fans are the worst thing about sports (see also: sports riots and the vuvuzela).

It's part of human nature to want to form "in" groups and "out" groups, and identify them as such. Hatred for a given artist or book isn't so much about actual disdain for the media, but a way of identifying the "others"; the "stupid people" and "idiots" and "tasteless philistines". It's not really about anything being wrong with the material itself (I've never heard any of Bieber's music, but he seems no more objectionable than any other pop artist), but rather about the need for some people to prove themselves part of the "right" group by bashing what they perceive as an acceptable target.

"Sure, I may be a gay, black, Jewish Wallstreet bank's lawyer, but at least I hate Justin Bieber, too".

Same thing with Twilight. It was never about the books really being bad, as it was having an acceptable target for derision. Never underestimate the human need to have someone to insult.

This is nothing new. Don't forget that for a good chunk of their career, the Beatles were considered exactly the same way, and not without justification; I mean, how much depth is there in "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"? Hell, just about any bubblegum act from the 50's-60's. In other words, Justin Bieber isn't going to destroy the music industry any more than the Beach Boys did. (Hell, you should see my dad when he listens to "Good Vibrations." Oh mah Gawd...) As you said yourself, if there's a niche, someone's gonna fill it because there's money to be made.

Again, that has little to do with the acts themselves. You shouldn't blame Metallica for their fans; if you like the music, you should listen to it and not give a damn about the fan base, and if you don't, just ignore it. No one's forcing you to look at Metallica videos on YouTube, or to scroll down and read the comments if you do. Now, I'll grant you that it's justifiable to hate soccer/football hooligans because they've been known to kill people, but when's the last time you saw a riot break out at a Miley Cyrus concert? Actually, that would be kind of funny, no?

Often it's just the fans.

A: I LURVE X, they're so dreamy.
B: I don't think X is that good.
A: YOU MUST DIE!
B: NO U!

And of course, this interaction sells. BUT...that takes away from any reasonable critique of them.

Putting it bluntly, Bieber is/has and will be a puppet placed there for his looks. Whatever talent he may have started with will be squandered away on surviving against both sides of his fanbase.

See Britney Spears, Mary-Kate and Ashley, The Osmonds, The Jacksons, Gary Coleman...

Me having long hair instantly makes it that I am copying Justin Bieber even though I have had long hair before the fandango was even known.

That's one reason I hate him:)

Because people have no real purpose to thier lives in modern society, adn so they trick themselves into believing they matter by being vocal about hating something.
