I was sort of disappointed with the graphics on D3. It reminds me of WC3 graphics. The backgrounds are much improved but the characters themselves seems to have a low quality look to them.

I'll put it this way. Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Starcraft 2, and Cataclysm were all had announced release dates almost exactly 2 months before release.

Although having a release date is important to the customers, it actually more important to retail and distribution. The logistics of creating a product and shipping it all over the world to retail stores require much advance planning. It probably takes a month at the least.

How in the world was Coldie able to read that? The glare is pretty much right on the word, and it's so small. Eagle eye is right.

I had a feeling this wasn't true. I doubt Blizzard would be able to keep it quiet. This game is on so many people's radar that the thought of them being able to hide the release date until it was so close is simply unbelievable. Would have been nice if it were true though.

Oh come on!

It's a Blizzard game.
If it were less than a month till launch, there'd be so much hype you'd barely be able to surf the 'net without drowning in it.

Ok, maybe if it was February 2013 ...

If anyone actually gives in and buys Blizzard's new money making scheme they should stop for a moment and ponder what it means to be a gamer.

I'm gonna wait until my local EB Games announces it before I freak out.
Considering they are taking pre-orders for SC2: Heart of the Swarm as well as pre-orders for D3, I am kind of expecting each to be released within the next 6 months.
I don't judge when games are coming out based on if a company is taking pre-orders or not. Sometimes it doesn't work so well. I mean, look at Duke Nukem Forever.

It's a fake. Beta is still in full swing. Normally they cut beta off about 6 weeks before release.
TOR was in beta until a week before early access.
I was referring to blizzards typical beta cycles. That's how it's been with Starcraft 2, Wow, and the Burning Crusade expansion in my experience with testing. Diablo 3 is very much in a playable state. I wouldn't be surprised at a march or April 1 release, but I highly doubt an early Feb release.

It's a great game. They make great games. People should check them out.

^ Indeed, in a world of Simon Cowell and Transformers movies, quality being also popular shouldn't be something we need to mock.

I do wonder if it's someone impatient high up in Best Buy, trying to push Diablo into an early release :)

Hah, good joke.

My fair bet? June. The same day Diablo 2 was released 12 years ago. Or 6/6/12, as it's double the 6 at end!

That might have been true before Activision got its dirty hands on Blizzard.

Can you tell me what activision has changed about blizzard? Because I've been playing blizzard games since orcs and humans and nothing has changed. No shitty DRM, no drop in quality, an outstanding development team, fair prices, and great customer support.

February sounds like a good month to release Diablo III. I doubt it will be February 2012, but I'm feeling positive it will be in that month. Some time...

also: "There's been no word from Blizzard as of yet."
as of yet

That made me die a little

I'm not going to attribute Blizzard's problems to Activision, but you have to be seriously indiscriminate if you so much imply that nothing about the company changed. As far as DRM goes, you probably haven't heard of Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 (the no offline part). As far as quality goes... Just watch Diablo III's opening cinematic.
Blizzard set out to eliminate cheating and make the experience way more social with Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3.

I beta tested both games and own a copy of Starcraft 2. Yes, it makes you authenticate your game every 6 months I think (maybe 90 days.) It has offline play. It also has come a long way since the days of Starcraft, Diablo 2, and Warcraft 3. Even now Warcraft 3 is still crappy as far as online play and cheaters go. Finding matches isn't as fun and there aren't things to guide you to a match that is more your skill level vs just jump into a game and get owned.

They allow mods and maps etc but they have greatly reduced the amount of cheating and hacking when playing Starcraft (read pretty much eliminated any software mode or hack) and will do the same with Diablo. IDK if you ever played Diablo 2 but it was a total hackfest. SO much so that it wasn't fun to play with anyone you didn't know. I feel like blizzard has created a great way to combat that problem with battle.net authentication and file authentication. It's not so much DRM as it is a non invasive version of cheater/hacker protection that other games employ.

Diablo and Starcraft, while they have offline merits, are social games. Diablo way more so then Starcraft. Therefore, the evolution into battle.net and an online activation is progress. The network that has been created around the community for continued support, patches, and content additions to the already great games is something any gamer should be happy for.

To each their own I guess, but I am very happy with how Blizzard games have evolved.

Off the top of my head, micro transactions and a distinct lack of direction.

There is no lack of direction i can see. The story they have in all of the current games is great.

The micro transactions that they have do nothing to effect the game play, they just generate more money for the company. You know, Who exists to make money.
