These people are technically hackers, since they are exploiting a weakness in a computer system, however I agree that they have very little credibility because they are likely using pre-written scripts they've downloaded somewhere.
It looks like they got a hold of one of the old botnets floating around and are using those to pull DDoS Stunts, but that is just speculation. These types of hackers are nothing more than gigantic trolls to the gaming community in general. I'm okay with hactivists when they do things that better the communities they claim to help (note I say okay, not happy about), but I'd say a good 95% of them that claim to be hactivists are just bored trolls with some script knowledge.

Also i'm not so fond of blaming the victim for this, if he didnt 'egg them on' then why should he be expected to curtail his gaming becuase a bunch of dicks have taken issue with him?
Because by continuing to stream online games he inconvenienced hundreds of thousands of gamers whereas streaming a single player game would inconvenience nobody? As soon as 2 games went dead because of DDOS attacks he should have clued in to the matter.
I'm sorry but it's simply not his fault if these people target him and why the fuck should he have to capitualate to their threats by not playing the games he loves?

Save your ire for the hackers and stop 'Victim Blaming'

It might be me being a jerk, but how about I cheer them on instead? I can't say that any of the companies involved, other than MAYBE Valve, don't richly deserve getting smacked around.

And do the players deserve it too? Dunno about you but i'm not the kind of person to cheer when crimes are committed against someone just because they 'had it coming'

So they attacked Dota2, LoL, Blizzards and EA servers? Everything I hate at once? All the cancer of gaming? I am not even mad, I hope they never get caught and keep doing god's work. Somebody should give those guys a medal.
I can see that disliking these games is somethign people may do, but calling them cancer? , THE CANCER? that's a bit harsh isn't it, surely the dota and LoL communities are a bit toxic, and I'm sure Blizzard has some ugly things floating about, but really, they are solid games that are enjoyed by thousands, and even millions of gamers. Just because you don't like them, which could be a case of genre-mismatch, lack of skill, lack of interest in acquiring said skill level (which can be quite frustrating in the early games), or just plain disinterest, doesn't make it justifyable to call them the cancer of gaming.

Even "trollposts" such as these (at least I hope it's a trollpost) don't really have a place here. Surely you may have grieves against these particular games, doesn't take away the joy some people do have with these games. And them being taken offline would be shitty, to say the least. I don't know what types of games you play, Sir Hawkeye, but i imagine them being unavailable would not make you happy. So don't try to blurt out random slurs, This is Escapist, and a certain standard should be upheld here.

The religious side of me hopes there's a special place in Hell for people who think this level of griefing is funny. I really hope any hassle the streamer has to go through is minimal and the authorities find the correct perpetrator in the end. There isn't enough bad karma in the world for that kind of behavior.
And I hope there is a special place in hell for people who wish hell onto other people but hey, you can't always get what you want.
Thank you.
The mob justice mentality these days is usually a lot more worrying and malicious than the issue at hand.

As for the servers going down and all that, I really don't care. My apathy and disinterest in the issue doesn't work as an incentive either, which is a bonus.

A police raid? I'd sue the shit out of that police department. What happened to simple knock on the door and peaceful apprehension? He's not a fuckin' terrorist. He's a suspect in a DDoS attack! It's not even real hacking. Suspicion that someone might be involved in hacking doesn't justify a fuckin' raid on his house. When did this become the norm? I used to laugh at the SWAT team raiding the house of that hacker from the movie "Hackers" but that's the reality these days. A fuckin' police state. Only in America. And let's face it. The same is happening in the UK.
well if you can thrown in jail for facebook comment you can be arrested for streaming as well. America has been a police state since 2001 btw, nothing new here.

Only im America, and UK, and France, and Germany, and... you get the point.
You should really watch the update video. Apparently these DDOS's sent in a call to the Police, about him having hostages. Seems like a much more appropriate response to the situation with all the information.
Ah, well, that does make sense then. I can understand police reacting this way then, however once they got in and noticed there actually are no hostages nor weapons there, they kept on searching for what exactly?

and it seems that finally first time ever i was affected by these things. WOT server was ddosed down when i was playing with my cousin.... at around 1 AM just after new year, so well timed sirs.

Apparently SW:ToR servers are currently being disrupted by this crap.

Big question is 'why?' but I feel there will never be sane, reasonable or justifiable answer to such.

1) the fact that they find this funny means they need some help. 2) i hate to break it to them but humanity as it exists could not exist without "money grubbing" corporations. As much as we dislike them we need them. If we wanted to get rid of them we would have to get rid of a ton of mental mindsets and change how we look at the world which i hate to say is not going to happen any time soon. So to sum up these are children who like messing with people because they can and need a strong parent figure

Exactly this. People in the developed world hate money-grubbing corporations, until they have everything they could ever want at their fingertips.

People in Africa, India and Malaysia are starving, goddamn.

"..For the lulz.."

I'm getting to the point were I think you should be required to get a license before being allowed to use the internet. He decided to DDoS popular games and harass a gamer because he was bored? I'm 25 now. I very clearly remember being bored and angry at companies/the man/everything. You need to accept that nothing's going to make sense for about 6-8 years. Seriously guys, just get a hobby, listen to metal, and watch a little porn every once in awhile until you figure out how to express yourself without being an asshat.

Sorry, but in this day and age that Corporations are not only People, but People who are Above the Law, sure, let them burn. Your game was taken off line? Good. Might just get mad enough to have laws passed against shit like always on DRM so hackers can't do that.
