Tiy just updated the pre-order; apparently, they are adding another race called the Novakid if pre-orders hit $500,000.
I believe they meant character levels, which they're weren't really any in a strictly traditional sense, just the stars for increasing mana and the heart crystals for increasing health.RatherDull said:Its biomes might as well be whole levels.michael87cn said:Terraria did not have levels, OP.
Nor is it best described as a Pixel 2D RPG Minecraft. It's much more like an action adventure game with crafting.
Ah see this is what I thought. "Fuck that guy"- basically.rustybroomhandle said:Karadalis - This article headline is misleading. This game is not being made by the same people that made Terraria. The only person they have in common is Tiy, who did pixel art in the original game. They have no intention of slipping into the same line of dickery that eventually befell Terraria.
Forgive my ignorance, but what kind of dickery befell Terraria?rustybroomhandle said:Karadalis - This article headline is misleading. The developer came out of left field after a big update and declared further development kaput.MopBox said:Forgive my ignorance, but what kind of dickery befell Terraria?rustybroomhandle said:Karadalis - This article headline is misleading. More specifically, the developer promised further content and bug fixes, and then didn't deliver.piinyouri said:The developer came out of left field after a big update and declared further development kaput.MopBox said:Forgive my ignorance, but what kind of dickery befell Terraria?rustybroomhandle said:Karadalis - This article headline is misleading. to be fair, its not like the game was broken or lacked content, especially for the p[rice tag, plus the fact that the game is getting another big update soon enough anyway I dont see how people can be that mad at Redigit.Atmos Duality said:More specifically, the developer promised further content and bug fixes, and then didn't deliver.
The last patch was the foreign language update (with a couple of hotfixes), back in early January of 2012.
I am actually with you there; I'm just clarifying by relating the events I saw as they unfolded.ramboondiea said:to be fair, its not like the game was broken or lacked content, especially for the p[rice tag, plus the fact that the game is getting another big update soon enough anyway I dont see how people can be that mad at Redigit.
I took a risk on a pre-order here, though given what I've seen so far from the gameplay demonstrations and WiP streams, I think it's far more honest and reliable than something like that infamous Aliens: Colonial Marines demo.anywho, pre-ordered the game looks interesting enough and i like how they going for the kickstarter-esque approach as its a much more solid investment then just using kickstarter.
lets face it, if you liked terraria, the chances are your going to like starbound, they are fundamentally the same game idea with some altered mechanics, i figure thats why the pre-orders exploded the way it did.Atmos Duality said:snippipity snap
I am quite aware of all of that.ramboondiea said:lets face it, if you liked terraria, the chances are your going to like starbound, they are fundamentally the same game idea with some altered mechanics, i figure thats why the pre-orders exploded the way it did.
and apparently the reason there is such a big difference in pre-order tiers is because its both the money to allow the current dev team to do this full time (alot of them have 2 jobs) and to also hire more people to work on these "promised" features. so the more the make the quicker the game is likely to come out (at-least thats the theory).
Actually, no. That's not the promise he broke.i really dont see how people where able to get down on Redigit really tho, i mean with all the updates he did i would say he lived up to that promise...
How much of that stems strictly from entitlement (that is, something beyond what was promised or falsely extrapolated from a promise) is debatable. Though I draw a line between "disappointment" and "blind jilted fan rage".... i mean that -hard- update basically tripled the games content and it was free, i mean the game cost what? £5. i would definitely say people got there moneys worth and i would say Redigit did more then enough to appeal to people. i mean he has actually gone back after all the complaints about the console release to add MORE crap to the game, i just really don't know how people bag on the guy. because lets face it, alot of what people were demanding stemmed from entitlement (the bad kind).
he didnt go silent, the company re-logic was basically looking at what they where going to do next, and with Redigits wife due to give birth he decided he wanted to spend time with his some, whilst the art guy decided he wanted to make his own game and went of to make a new company (Chucklefish). its basically a matter of "life got in the way". that's why i cant understand people giving him a hard time, the dev team made the promise, the devteam split, the fact that he gets all the blame because after assessing the situation he thought it best to finish the game. i dont think at any point he decided "fuck the fans" or anything like that, and he even came out on the forums (i thinks that where he did it?) and let everyone know what the deal was.Atmos Duality said:Actually, no. The promise I refer to was made in an announcement AFTER the 1.1 patch.
Redigit then went silent for a solid month and a half, and then reneged on it.
Yes, he did go silent for a time.ramboondiea said:he didnt go silent, the company re-logic was basically looking at what they where going to do next, and with Redigits wife due to give birth he decided he wanted to spend time with his some, whilst the art guy decided he wanted to make his own game and went of to make a new company (Chucklefish). its basically a matter of "life got in the way".
I know he didn't decide "fuck the fans". But unfortunately, that's not how some people took it.that's why i cant understand people giving him a hard time, the dev team made the promise, the devteam split, the fact that he gets all the blame because after assessing the situation he thought it best to finish the game. i dont think at any point he decided "fuck the fans" or anything like that, and he even came out on the forums (i thinks that where he did it?) and let everyone know what the deal was.
