I'm laughing at the people who donated money to this douche. Didn't they Realize that this was going to happen? Who actually thought he had a chance against Sony?

If the UN tracks National Socialists to Argentina 50 years later a private company sure as hell should be able to get this punk!

It is actually somewhat of a logical move, is there any chance he could have beaten Sony's lawyers? It doesn't seem like it.

Dammit, I supported this guy. The worst part is that the main point of this was to fight Sony's iron fist. That's what it was for me, anyway. He could have punched a hole in Sony's inflated ego by winning this, but no, he takes the money and runs. What a schmuck.

Something odd.

People are freaking out Sony has no right to tell you what to do with your PS3.

Sony made no action against this guy until he started publicly distributing how to hack the system in the way that would both allow you to cheat and use illegal games.

I wonder if anyone considered the fact Sony doesn't give a shit what you do with your PS3 if you keep it to yourself and stay off their network.

Yes it is. Just because the rootkey COULD be used for piracy, that doesn't mean that's its only use. They have no way of knowing WHAT people were using it for.

By your logic, it's illegal to give me a pencil. Because I COULD kill a man with a pencil. So giving somebody a pencil is automatically aiding murder. Even if there's no proof that anybody used the pencil to kill with. Yeah, that totally makes sense.

If I lent somebody an Xbox game to try out, and they decided to burn a copy of it, does that make me responsible for their act of piracy? No, of course not. The crime is the sole responsibility of the perpetrator.
You need to recognize the difference.

If i lent you a pencil after you asked to borrow it for an essay and you killed someone no it wouldn't be my bad.

If i lent you a pencil after you spent twenty hours talking about how your so totally going to stab a fucker with a pencil, yes i would be responsible.

This isn't a case of giving an object to a single person. The idea someone using a pencil to commit murder isn't unheard of, but falls into reasonable doubt.

The idea of publicly distributing a root key that made it easy to do malicious things to strangers is not covered by this reasonable doubt.

For example, if i were to throw buckets of freshly sharpened pencils in a prison letting anyone who could reach grab them what are the odds of the pencil being used as a pencil or a shiv?

Not making a direct comparison to the crimes, however it is fair to say releasing a root key that can easily be used maliciously and trying to use the "Well it's not my responsibility what happens next!" is flimsy. To believe that this guy "had no idea how people would use the key" is silly.

While i agree Sony was being assholes when they removed Linux functionality instead of continuing to seek other options but what Geohot did was equally irresponsible.

Once again, sony didn't seem to care he broke the PS3 until he started making it easy for everyone else. The line he crossed wasn't modding his system, it was publicly distributing the root key to do it.

Well, there goes our only hope for better software rights on consoles.

Who will be our next challenger?
Perhaps someone who will, instead of committing crimes then trying to make a defensive lawsuit, actually take legal steps and measure with support both financially and peer wise to not only bring causes and concerns to a company but reach out to work with said company to create a better tomorrow rather then trying to boot stamp and force some form of submission(which will guarantee no change) and pretty much turning the whole mess into a "my dick is bigger circus" like these things always end up being.

No? asking to much. Oh well, more of the same old same old then. People commit crimes, are outraged when the guilty get prosecuted, go back to committing crimes, cause absolutely no change, blame the government. Never move out of parents house....

I am so sick of this "only hope" mentality people have. Everyone can make change. We are the fucking consumers. We hold the power of money. The right path is to create a force to try and work with and change. Sacrifice and determination.

However that would involve actually sacrifice, and working with someone else for mutual gain and both sides compromising.

Not to mention work. Man fuck work, lets all go back to doing nothing and bitching nothing changes because of evil corporations. Then, when things don;t go your way, we can all ***** on a forum again, before getting ma to buy us more doritos.

I'm sorry if the above sounds angry and cynical but I keep hearing that same shit. Everyone sits on there ass wit ha thumb up it waiting for either a) someone else to do something or b) someone to just give in and submit to you so that you get everything you want without doing dick. I've gotten sick of it. Christ.

Note: Any insult isn't particularly directed at you, more so the statement you made. If you feel none of what i said applies to you, then maybe it doesn't.

That's dissapointing. I thought that he had a legitimate case.

Edit: Well, it seems like sony jumped the gun. Getting desperate, Sony?

Off-topic, I think we should all be ashamed to so easily believe a story like this. I, for one, feel like a dumbass.

and so he ran...

and the motto of the story is, if the police arrest you for knowingly breaking the law, flee the country.

See, i told you guys when i made a topic about his hack claim, saying that he was no good (mainly because of his history of hacking iphones), and that i wasn't going to support him, but you guys intended on flaming me for it.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.266281-Why-do-people-support-Geohot?page=1

I even had to change my original message because of the endless flaming i was getting.

You guys said, oh Jazoni89 your such a dumb ass for not supporting geohotz, and his hack.

Now he's just ran off with all of the money that was given to him by those very supporters.

For everyone who said that, Now who's the dumb ass now.

Good luck getting support ever again with the stunt he pulled. He would have had a decent case if he attended the case, and DIDNT tamper with evidence, but no.

Okay people you can no longer support GeoHot now that he's pulled this shit. Seriously, tampering with evidence then running away doesn't put you in the best of light.
No, but it still doesn't prove him wrong or Sony right.

Ha ha ha. Run you little twit. Prove that you are the scumbag that I see in that picture. I wonder if Sony will get an arrest warrant for him and have in dragged back to the United States. Can they do that?

So let me get this right, GeoHot has 4 PS3s, and Sony says he may have signed up to PSN on one of them. Somehow signing to PSN on one PS3 applies to all PS3s?

Depends on the country he's in. South America? Probably no.

And don't you mean "twat"?
Nope. Twit. I like the sound of it better. :)
