Some people just don't learn.

How stupid do you have to be to just keep doing the wrong thing despite everyone telling you it's wrong and dangerous? Do we have to see American troops die because our enemies intercepted his plans before he'll knock this off? (Or will even that not stop him?)

Hey, at least he didn't use emails. That would get him locked up.

Depends what we mean by stupid: I suspect the problem is more one of attitude than intelligence. Judging by his colourful backhistory of chaotic and unprincipled behaviour, I think there's plenty of evidence that he's temperamentally challenged, maybe even to the point of incapable of reliably following the rules.

But then, his many issues were already known long before he was appointed. However, Trump doesn't care and Congressional Republicans were unwilling to call out their boss on incompetent cabinet appointments*, so there he is.

* Except Matt Gaetz. When you consider the likes of Pete Hesgeth and RFK Jr getting approved, it indicates just how much Congress hated Matt Gaetz.

I mean, he got away with it without any consequence, so is it really wrong?

I would say being a rules breaker, angry, chaotic and undisciplined was a feature, not a bug

It was never about the price of eggs/economics. That became clear as soon as conservatives started saying immigration didn't matter, even if the Biden immigration policy on immigrants means a more prosperous economy later, and a functioning one now.

Trump is about to fire Powell the fed chair he fucking appointed.

Also, US Customs and Border Protection are now checking phones for social media posts like China does. Fucking hell, what's happening my country.

The country saw a coup doing rapist who already spend four years showing he was both unable and unwilling to govern, and then they said 'Give me that please!''

Trump said he was going to check phones and target speech. He said it in 2015. This is not news. This is Trump keeping his promises

Unfortunately, the Mainstream Media has been too chickenshit to actually tell the public how bad Trump is

This is fine. It's what the USA voted for, let the USA have it.

Seriously, let this all happen, let things break, and the pieces can be picked up later. How are people going to learn if they keep being protected from the consequences of their actions?

Because the people who suffer tend to not be the ones who cause the problem. The only thing I'm learning, for example, is that I made a mistake living in America in 2025 and having no way to feasibly get out.

Unfortunately yes. However, some of the people who suffer will be ones who caused the problems.

People covering for Trump's fuck-ups is what got Trump re-elected. They cover them again, you'll get Trump 2.0. Then Trump 3.0. One way or another, the people who suffer from shit governance are going to get it in the neck sooner or later. So maybe rip that bandage off now rather than pick at it painfully for ages before having to rip it off anyway eventually.

ICE Just Paid Palantir Tens of Millions for ‘Complete Target Analysis of Known Populations’

·Apr 16, 2025 at 9:10 AM

The records show that Palantir is actively working on the technical infrastructure underpinning the Trump administration’s mass deportation efforts which could soon impact U.S. citizens.

Update: after the publication of this article, 404 Media obtained leaked material further detailing Palantir's work with ICE. You can read that coverage here.

Last week Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) paid contracting giant Palantir tens of millions of dollars to make modifications to a powerful ICE database and search tool to allow “complete target analysis of known populations” and to update the tool’s targeting and enforcement priorities, according to procurement records reviewed by 404 Media.

The records show that Palantir is actively working on, and making updates to, the technical infrastructure underpinning the Trump administration’s mass deportation efforts. The news comes after ICE agents arrested a green card holding student at his interview to become a U.S. citizen; plainclothes officers picked up a student on the street for deportation despite the State Department finding no evidence she was linked to antisemitism or Hamas as claimed; and the American and El Salvadorian presidents deflecting when asked who was going to return a man who was mistakenly deported to a foreign mega prison. Trump has also called for deporting U.S. citizens to El Salvador.

At the same time, Palantir is running adverts at U.S. colleges which say “a moment of reckoning has arrived for the West. Our culture has fallen into shallow consumerism while abandoning national purpose. Too few in Silicon Valley have asked what ought to be built—and why. We did.”

“As a whole, extending Palantir's services with intentionally vague corporate-speak phrasing coupled with ICE's recent public escalation of violating people's rights via harassment, deportation without a basis, and terrorizing immigrants paints a clear picture: Palantir's engagement with ICE is facilitating and enabling abuses and violation of rights—rights like due process which, I want to note,

Leaked: Palantir’s Plan to Help ICE Deport People

·Apr 17, 2025 at 10:56 AM

Internal Palantir Slack chats and message boards obtained by 404 Media show the contracting giant is helping find the location of people flagged for deportation, that Palantir is now a “more mature partner to ICE,” and how Palantir is addressing employee concerns with discussion groups on ethics.

1745334844458.png

Palantir, the surveillance giant, is taking on an increased role with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including finding the physical location of people who are marked for deportation, according to Palantir Slacks and other internal messages obtained by 404 Media.

The leak shows that Palantir’s work with ICE includes producing leads for law enforcement to find people to deport and keeping track of the logistics of Trump’s mass deportation effort, and provides concrete insight into the Trump administration’s wish to leverage data to enforce its immigration agenda. The internal communications also show Palantir leadership preparing for a potential backlash from employees or outsiders, with them writing FAQs that can be sent to friends or family that start to ask about Palantir’s work with ICE.

“Hey all, wanted to provide a quick update on our work with ICE,” Akash Jain, the Chief Technology Officer of Palantir Technologies and President of Palantir USG, wrote in a Slack message several days ago. “Over the last few weeks we prototyped a new set of data integrations and workflows with ICE.”

“The new administration’s focus on leveraging data to drive enforcement operations has accelerated those efforts,” Jain wrote.

A page of an internal Palantir wiki obtained by 404 Media says Palantir participated in a three-week sprint, where developers rapidly work on new projects, with Homeland Security Investigations’ (HSI) Innovation Lab, which is the agency’s centralized hub for developing new advanced analytics capabilities and tools. The primary focus of that sprint was providing immigration agents with “improved awareness about the criminality and location of individuals who have already received a final order of removal,” the wiki says.

oh hey that kinda weird, why would you even do that

Gov. Ferguson signs bill restricting out-of-state military forces in Washington

Governor Ferguson signs bill restricting out-of-state military forces in Washington/FILE - Gov. Bob Ferguson signs 3 bills into law on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. (TVW)

OLYMPIA, Wash. (KATU) — Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson has signed a new law that restricts out-of-state military forces from entering the state without explicit permission.

House Bill 1321, sponsored by Rep. Sharlett Mena (D-Tacoma), mandates that National Guard troops from other states, territories, or districts must receive the governor's approval before entering Washington, unless they are mobilized by the president.

"We welcome collaboration with National Guard forces when warranted, but only with our permission," Ferguson said. "We cannot have armed forces come into our state to enforce policies that are against our core values. I appreciated Rep. Mena’s leadership in bringing this important legislation to my desk."

Rep. Mena emphasized the importance of the legislation, stating, "This law ensures that Washington — not other states — decides what happens in our communities. It protects us from unauthorized and unaccountable military actions."

The law, which takes effect immediately due to an emergency clause, is modeled after similar legislation in Idaho and aligns with laws in states like Montana and Texas.

It does not restrict the National Guard from participating in disaster response and recovery efforts through mutual-aid agreements.

Washington's National Guard will continue to train with units from other states and can be deployed domestically or internationally when called upon.

Kinda small compared to everything else, but yikes.

Sure sound like something that the "drain the swamp and back the blue" camp would love to know about, I'm sure fox news will cover this any second.

I honestly think his response to this was to reduce American soft power, decrease wages, and create a prison in El Salvador to specifically counter this.

1) A person that doesn't believe in climate change is not going to believe that climate change will cause refugees to migrate.

2) Future problems are for future people.

This is effectively what businesses are all about, and this means the institutional thinking of the dominant force in society. Imagine you are a corporate executive: you care about the share price and your bonus in perhaps up to a few years. You'll probably be retired or move on in no more than 10 years. Some companies will have longer-term considerations (e.g. imagine drug research with 10 years from start to market), but even still 20-30 years is unimaginably far away for most companies.

It similarly afflicts politicians: the next election is generally in under 5 years. I would suggest governments are better at long-term thinking than corporations, but there are still powerful institutional drives to massively favour short term advantage.

Trump and the Republicans likely do believe in climate change though. They just don't think the upper class should lose even a cent from efforts to do anything about it. Rather than just being insane ramblings Trump's fetish for Greenland likely stems from him knowing climate change is opening new naval routes in the area.

To some extent. However, also never assume malice where incompetence is sufficient explanation: some of them will have drunk the kool-aid.

It's easy to think that rich and powerful people are clever and talented, and secretly know the truth, but ignore it because they are selfish or malevolent. The reality is that some of them might be very smart and talented in certain domains, hence why they rose to high station. However, outside those domains they are often just grossly incompetent: ill-informed, prejudiced, sometimes just loopy. As a similar idea, we could take the quote from the physicist Richard Feynman "a scientist looking at nonscientific problems is just as dumb as the next guy".

Thus the world is run by people who are (probably) very good at something, but in practice are busy expounding on and influencing a lot of other things, on which they are potentially useless.

malice and incompetence are comfortable bedfellows, by no means mutually exclusive. And of all the admins out there, it's wild to still be attempting charitability as they continue ignoring courts and deporting legal citizens to camps that literally no-one has been let out alive from since being built while they openly admit to never wanting to let any of them out alive. as they flagrantly lie about these people on the public stage each and every day and now appear to be actually disappearing people, their names no longer visible on any available documents at any of the camps and plane journeys, plus further suspicions of deporting to new countries like Rwanda without informing anyone. And that's just the one single area of governance they've proudly thrown human rights away for.

and we know already trump is aware of climate change being real while claiming otherwise;

same as jordan peterson, both oil fundie babies who talk utter shit cos their lobbyists historically benefit financially from paying them bloody well to keep doing so. there ain't any benefit of any doubt left no more
