Recently, I've been buying all of my EA games used at Gamestop, Amazon, or Ebay. Not for the few dollars worth of money saved, but for the satisfaction that EA, who thinks all PC gamers are pirates that need to be loaded up with Securom, won't see a dime from me. Am I bitter? Or will you join me?

I usually don't buy EA games in the first place. Especially not from Gamestop.
Me too, but ventures like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space were too promising to miss. But I still hate EA, and wish death upon it.

I wasn't so much a fan of Dead Space it seemed too much like one of my favourite ps2 games; as in very much like it storywise. The game is/was "Run Like Hell" if anyone else has played it?

Ahh, the ever popular 'I hate EA' thread. Hooray for bandwagons!

I don't hate EA. And I'm disappointed at this thread. I was hoping for a reflection on used games and how you have to be careful what you get, since some people like to, apparently, use their discs as coasters.

But no...just another 'I hate EA' thread.
Disappointing.

People like to talk about "protesting" game companies they don't like by not buying their games. I was proposing an alternative that I've never seen mentioned on the Escapist.

DRC killed any attempts I would have made to not kill EA. However, should Disney aquire EA, we all will be worse off. I'm talking Battle Field: Kingdom Hearts. UGH!

You didn't like a game because it was like one of your favorite games? Surely you'd like it more?

No I meant that it was too alike storywise; it was as if they had ripped the story out of it, added some regenerating physics, updated the graphics and depersonalized and changed the protagonist from military man to engineer to fit with the "everyman" theme.

Agreed, EA have come out with new and original titles in the past year instead of just sports games.
I'm ready to give EA a second chance.

Ever hear of World of Goo? Awesome puzzle game. Nope? Well, you know why? Nobody bought it. According to the makers, who monitor the leader boards and have noticed a certain discrepancy between the number of copies registering high scores and number of copies sold, it has a 90% piracy rate.

This. EA games usually suck anyway and I don't have Gamestop where I am.

But I do buy the games I like to support the devs, no matter what the DRM is (in cases where the DRM for some strange reason does prohibit me from playing the game I bought I simply get a version w/o the DRM)

thats becuase it wasnt worth buying other wise ppl would have bought it i mean connect the dots ppl that REALLY like games will buy them instead of downloading them eg i tried the game supreme commander LOVED IT then i went and bought it from GAME then i tried legendary hated it and deleted it from my pc and wont download it ever again this is much like playing a demo except that u can finish the whole game if ur a cheap ass but any ways yes i got a demo of world of goo from pc gamer and thought it was awful so didnt buy it i mean u can scream be moral till the cows come home but the fact of the matter is that game companys dont care about us any more they just make games for money a part from the very few that make games just for the gamers wich is y valve is my most confusing company that i use since it both does great games and shoddy ones

JESUS CHRIST LOOK AT THE LACK OF PUNCTUATION!

On another note, I wish that people would stop pretending that their favourite company isn't in it for the money. No major company is in it for the gamers, they just have a different method of grabbing at your money (ie. making good games and being nice rather than fleecing us for every penny). Of course we should be thankful for it, but pretending that they're some kind of benevolent beings who cherish each as individuals is very niave.

But on topic, you said "People who REALLY like games will buy them". Well let's be honest, for a lot of people that's not true what so ever, and in most cases "games they REALLY like" aren't a large enough percentage of the games they actually play to support the industry.

Finally your argument over World of Goo is flawed. If they didn't really like the game why where they spending the time required to get high scores?

Well, as a rule I generally think games made by Evil A-holes can go die somewhere dark while being followed by a probe happy Alien, but as someone I'm to lazy to give credit too said Mirror's Edge was intresting enough to get a look at (A "look at" my wallet later regreted). As for your practices, you should do everything in your power to make sure those EA's (It's a company name, and an insult!) get what they deserve. The very very very few good games they have will be picked up by a nicer company. Like Valve. I would love to see Valve's take on some of EA's sports games.

"Dude, I did a 67 yard hail mary for a touchdown, but didn't make the kick because my kicker was killed by a Smoker. Then sang "Womanizar" for 3 straight hours on Halo 3, ruining it for everyone!"

At least, thats the sort of people I know who play EA's sports games.

Also, as a rule I define EA as "Who ever didn't make Dead Space, Mirror's Edge (It was a step in the right direction), or Skate 2's controls. Mabye Mercs 2. It was ok, but not $60 dollers american ok.
