well im thinking of now downloading games since the game companys are becoming bigger twats by the minute cause of the fact they just WONT SHUT UP ABOUT TORRENTS >..<
Ever hear of World of Goo? Awesome puzzle game. Nope? Well, you know why? Nobody bought it. According to the makers, who monitor the leader boards and have noticed a certain discrepancy between the number of copies registering high scores and number of copies sold, it has a 90% piracy rate.
thats becuase it wasnt worth buying other wise ppl would have bought it i mean connect the dots ppl that REALLY like games will buy them instead of downloading them eg i tried the game supreme commander LOVED IT then i went and bought it from GAME then i tried legendary hated it and deleted it from my pc and wont download it ever again this is much like playing a demo except that u can finish the whole game if ur a cheap ass but any ways yes i got a demo of world of goo from pc gamer and thought it was awful so didnt buy it i mean u can scream be moral till the cows come home but the fact of the matter is that game companys dont care about us any more they just make games for money a part from the very few that make games just for the gamers wich is y valve is my most confusing company that i use since it both does great games and shoddy ones
So 90% of the high scores in World of Goo's leaderboards are submitted by people who downloaded it and didn't like it?

JESUS CHRIST LOOK AT THE LACK OF PUNCTUATION!

On another note, I wish that people would stop pretending that their favourite company isn't in it for the money. No major company is in it for the gamers, they just have a different method of grabbing at your money (ie. making good games and being nice rather than fleecing us for every penny). Of course we should be thankful for it, but pretending that they're some kind of benevolent beings who cherish each as individuals is very niave.

But on topic, you said "People who REALLY like games will buy them". Well let's be honest, for a lot of people that's not true what so ever, and in most cases "games they REALLY like" aren't a large enough percentage of the games they actually play to support the industry.

Finally your argument over World of Goo is flawed. If they didn't really like the game why where they spending the time required to get high scores?
Of course Valve is in it for the money. They get their money in a different way than EA, though. Valve makes the best possible games it can and sells them for a profit offering free DLC to freshen up their old games and spur sales. EA spends its time thinking of how to sell you less game up front and more in DLC a la Battlefield Bad Company. I'm surprised EA didn't make you buy the ammo in that game as well.

Ahh, the ever popular 'I hate EA' thread. Hooray for bandwagons!

I don't hate EA. And I'm disappointed at this thread. I was hoping for a reflection on used games and how you have to be careful what you get, since some people like to, apparently, use their discs as coasters.

But no...just another 'I hate EA' thread.
Disappointing.
Most used games I buy run quite well, and only a few even require a nice alcohol rub-down. Anyway, there wouldn't BE an EA-hate-bandwagon if they didn't insist on repackaging the same game every year (lolMadden) and charging full price for it each time.

EA made Red Alert 3, and it's coming out for the PS3 soon. To anyone who has played the game on another platform, is it worth buying? BTW, i don't HATE EA... its just, most of their games seem "Meh", and I don't have enough money to buy "meh" games.

I'm still hosed that my old CD copy of Half Life doesn't work.

When I tried to install the game for some old school fun, I found that if I wanted to play it I would have to download another version from Steam - for £10!

EA are all about the money. Quality, support and player community are just buzzwords on a powerpoint presentation to them.

I wasn't so much a fan of Dead Space it seemed too much like one of my favourite ps2 games; as in very much like it storywise. The game is/was "Run Like Hell" if anyone else has played it?
That was a great game. I also think that EA should be thrown into the deepest darkest hole in the abyss.

Recently, I've been buying all of my EA games used at Gamestop, Amazon, or Ebay. Not for the few dollars worth of money saved, but for the satisfaction that EA, who thinks all PC gamers are pirates that need to be loaded up with Securom, won't see a dime from me. Am I bitter? Or will you join me?
This is what people should do. Even though I will happly buy an EA game new when it goes down in price, there are other ways to get games leagaly. So if you hate a company enough that you don't want them getting your money, buy second-hand, don't be cheap and pass off piracy as keeping your cash away from certain companies.

Why not just not buy their games, I think that is a much more direct way to show that you don't like them. And if you hate the publisher then why buy their games at all? And if the EA games you do like are among their slightly more original titles like Mirror's Edge/Dead Space, then why not show your support of the new direction. If EA sees that people actually appreciate other games than sport sequels, then maybe that would change.

People should stop bagging EA.
They are the one of the reasons video gaming is popular today.
I'm going to disagree with Yahtzee with this one.

Eh, the best of those games are not by EA. Left4Dead and Orange Box are Valve, Sid Meiers original Civilization was MicroProse... The only really good game by EA I see in that list is Mirror's Edge.

You should watch zero originality at dailymotion.com he gives a lot of good and entertaining reasons why you shouldn't go to gamestop.

Almost all of those games you mentioned weren't made by EA. If EA goes under, those games will continue to be made. The studios will use a different publisher...one that respects the target audience a bit better perhaps. Steam is a great choice for that.
