The only thing that I find irritating when it comes to usernames is when they insist on putting X's before and after it, like xXxkiller465xXx or something. Also 1337 speak.

I'm not keen on usernames that have peoples birth years on the end. I prefer it when people are imaginative.

Overall though, I like all usernames! The more creative the better. :D
Is mine creative? :D
I'm sky14kemea and this is my favourite username in the Escapist. (b'-')b

So yes, yes it is. xD
I'm Beffudled Shepard and this is my favorite avatar on the escapist :D

I don't mind numbers in names just not at the end.
Underscores kinda annoy me though, Don't know why, they just don't seem natural.
Hyphens? They're just dope. (If they're not overuse that is)

I hate having random numbers at the end. I remember playing MapleStory a long time ago. I went to great lengths to avoid that (I was named something like dooooooooood or something). On a side note, I found it quite funny that I had seen at least 40 people named OriginalNarutoFan(insert numbers here) and variations of that.

Lately I've been using an acronym for my other usernames.

Depends on whether or not that interpretation helps convince you of my baseless assertion of Zero derived swag possession well reasoned completely valid argument XD

i cant stand the stupid numbers or x's or even worse when they start stacking emotes on the end of it... i mean some people can use the numbers right... but realy i dont care when someone was born... especially not in there name... makes me feel old...

the best ones are solid and simple names...

I generally dislike random numbers in usernames, when they're clearly random. Generally when someone wants a popular name, but someone's already chosen "Sephiroth" or the like. Same with Xx_xX, same reason.

Underscores are fine, though I don't see the need, myself.

Anything that starts with x and ends with x is a no go.
A massive amount of numbers at the end of the username will spark a bit of an annoyance.
Anything that involves words like "Dark, scythe, venom, slayer, killer, epic, quickscope, stuff related to my mom, etc." is an absolute NO!
The one exception: if the entire name is something along the lines of "your mom" and it's an FPS, it's a good choice. "You were killed by your mom" never gets old.
That's what I love about TF2 and Steam's ability to quickly change one's name. At one point, I was killed by "about a million batmans."

I prefer spaces to underscores, personally.

As for numbers in usernames... Well, if I said I didn't like them, I'd be a hypocrite, wouldn't I?

I like single names without numbers or underscores or unnecessary X's.

I don't like names that aren't initially capitalized. I also can't stand unoriginal names that come from already created popular entertainment. And I ESPECIALLY hate when those unoriginal names are misspelled slightly because the original spelling of the unoriginal name was already taken.

Here are just some examples that aren't at all related to the names I've seen in this thread alone:

sky14kemea Aheh, nothing to see here, I didn't just list a mod as a negative.
CheckD3
TimeLord There I go again...
Shadowstar38
Bebop

Right, that was a better idea in my head before I scrolled past a couple of mods. I gotta stick my principles, though, and those usernames are right there in the "names that squick me a bit" category. I'm sure you're wonderful people... it's just... I sigh like Kif Kroker when I read names like that.

Welp, mine's Rogue 9 to reflect my mancrush on Jedi Knight and X-Wing Pilot Corran Horn whose callsign in the X-Wing novels is Rogue 9.

I prefer not having to use underscores where possible and changed my name from Rogue_9 to Rogue 9 when I first signed up for the PubClub. I don't mind underscores or MultiCapitalisedUserNames as I've used both in the past but I agree that usernames like xXxbl00ddArkdeaThxXx inspire immediate disdain for the person using it.

No numbers for me. Unless the number's intended to be part of the name. I will take tons of time on it, variations and accents, hyphens if things get really desperate.

I dislike numbers in a username simply because I like to follow the convention that a username should be *like* a name.

I also don't like it when people use their real name as usernames either, but honestly, I'm not going to be super judgmental about either of these things.

This username is close to a decade old, and, barring a possible capitalization of the first or all letters, has the same format no matter where I'm using it. Never any spaces, and always with the numbers at the end, even if they are unnecessary.

It all started back in the Runescape days. My name is Chad A., and I had no ideas for a username. I figured, hey, why not just use "Chada"? But that was too short or already taken. So then I decided to just double it, "Chadachada." That worked for Runescape and a couple of other sites. When making my Xbox gamertag, however, some asshole had already taken Chadachada, leaving me with a conundrum. So I stuck "123" to the end, and have been using that username ever since.

It's really easy to remember, and is constant throughout pretty much every site I use. I've had only two people ***** about the numbers at the end during the past seven years, and they were your standard elitist PC gamer assholes. The numbers do not bother me in the slightest, nor do I see a reason for it to.

I prefer using a hyphen rather than having the two words together, and I hate numbers. I'd usually try to do what I can to avoid them. I also don't like using symbols in place of letters.

Man I just found a few people that harbor a secret hate for my name. I am fine with the name as long as I can tell you apart from everyone else. If you and your friends all have very similar clan type names I will just start to treat you all as one person playing on multiple computers.

2fish stands proudly with his number. For what would he be without the 2? He would be 1fish. 1 is a lonely number so it can piss off to its emo poetry class. 2fish it is and 2fish it shall be. For a 2fish by any other spelling is wrong.

I prefer to just have CapitalForNewWord kind of format. But this has been my username forever, so I tend to resort to other things like underscores or . if the general OccamsRazor is taken. Hence my current username. I try and avoid numbers if at all possible.

Player Name > PlayerName > Player_Name > Playername

This is assuming multiple words in a name. I use a singular 4 character word in 99% of my usernames. I used to go by LordName, but then people called me Lord and not the actual name. >_>

I also don't get why people inherently hate placeholder characters. A simple xName or ll Name ll kinda gets across that my name is, you know, that actual name (if your name is Greg irl and I know another guy named Greg, I sure as shit don't tell you to pick a different name, which is what people regularly tell me to do when I ***** about this). But like everything, you can totally take it too far.
Ex: XXxxXxXVxV Name VxVXxXxxXX

...Though that doesn't stop the particularly stupid people from typing it out, or god forbid, actually pronouncing it anyway. I am convinced these people have suffer from debilitating brain trauma.

All that said, if I can take an emoticon for a name, something that by its very definition cannot be pronounced but is easily typed, I'll totally pounce on that. Too bad most usernames don't allow carats for ^_^

I prefer to use a space where ever possible, but if for some reason that is not allowed, I always go for the underscore in between. Jamming two words/names together does not seem right. I don't like superfluous letters(XxX) or numbers(893) either. If I can't be quick enough to grab the SN I want then I at least try to be creative enough to come up with a new one that is original. Which has unfortunately become a more common occurrence because of the latest Sherlock Holmes movie.

As long as it isn't overkill, I don't mind numbers replacing letters that much. What annoys me far more is lack of capitalization.

And of course the usual 'xXOmGSnip3RzzZSkilLzZXx' that I come across every now and then. People who don't use that ironically should die in a fire with lots of pain and sadness.
