Still why you would WANT to use the ps4 controller on the ps3 is beyond me, use the correct controller for the correct system. Simple!
This.
Immediately after reading about that, it just made me go "why" to those that were willing to do that in the first place...

Also, no one should be that surprised of the PS4 controller controlling both systems at the same time... Considering they both probably run on a similar wireless frequency the same way a universal remote functions, I feel like these people should have known the risks going in...

Regardless, I'm not too sure if the refunds would go through at this point, since this situation is not like how someone "accidentally" spends money on a F2P mobile game without "realizing" it... or maybe it is, since I rarely buy digital games myself...

Ok, most of you will find this funny (I know I would), I'm fuming.

Playing Dark Souls 2 on the PS3 with my PS4 controller, I leave my PS4 on as it's downloading updates.

Turns out the controller can control both at the same time.

So my inputs on Dark Souls buy me FIFA on PS4 (a game I already own) and British Cop skin pack (I don't even know what this is). Get an email on my tablet telling me so.

Ring psn and straight away the guy is just saying "terms of use", "no refunds" etc. £56.68.

Ask to speak to his superior and they won't come on the phone. He then tells me support staff have said it's not possible to control two devices at once. He doesn't seem to believe me.

Half of me wants to trade this in for an Xbox with Titanfall right now.
Yes, yes, join us. We have Titanfall, voice recognition, and flexible app switching.

Now tell me if I'm wrong, but the last time I checked; the first thing you get drilled into your head is THE COSTUMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. And after the shit they pulled with the Canadian market yesterday, this is a greater reason why I will never buy a ps4.
Nothing un-drills that phrase out of your head quite like actually working in retail.

"The customer is always right" is a piece of single-bite "advice" written by a management monkey with no actual experience on the floor of the store. It is NOT something to base your company around. And seeing how economics are complex, people lie, people move product around for kicks, people vandalize, people throw tantrums and people are stubborn, I can say with great confidence that 90% of the time, the customer is entirely wrong.

According to Australian consumer law, Sony will have to offer refunds. Say what you want about us, at least we treat consumers with respect.
I know this is off topic, but I want to know badly enough that I'll risk the moderation.

Do people say negative things about Aussies? I try not to travel in circles that treat others that way, but when being online it's impossible to avoid all vitriol. But I can't recall ever seeing someone actively hostile to our friends from down under. I do play online shooters occasionally, so I have heard some pretty insane leaps in logic when someone decides to rip into another player. But I can't even think of a specific Aussie slur. Maybe that's naivete on my part, I don't know.

Is this seriously a problem? Or just a clever turn of phrase that I read too much into?
We did vote in a fascist dickbag to be our PM, so there is that. Other than that, we are alright.

As far as I'm aware, the only thing negatively said about Aussies (in relation to video games) is that their government is kinda bollocks. What with their censorship, refusal to have an R-rated equivalent for games for YEARS - then still censoring games that fall in that category.

Now, the Kiwis... *shakes fist*

Why do I have the Feeling that these nitwits were playing DS2 with the DS4 controller(which is a bulkier controller) just for extra bragging rights. If so I really don't feel much sympathy especially keeping the PS4 running for no reason other than being lazy or to keep the DS4 on.

And heck, has anyone calling foul on Sony even tried controlling both systems at once? Because Lord knows that NO ONE would ever make-up a false story in order to garner sympathy or just shine a bad light on a company he doesn't like (or has a momentary beef). Hell, Cracked does articles all the time talking about the bogus stories that get reported as fact; yet here we are taking the word of some guy that we've never heard of before, all because it means the chance to demonize a company that some people look for any excuse to demonize.
I actually tried this. What happened was that I was automatically disconnected from the PSN from one system when accessing it from another. So, began with PS3, then activated the PS4 and PS3 was automatically disconnected. For that reason I have to call out some bullshit on this story.
Maybe they didn't sign into the PSN on their PS3. They said they were downloading stuff on their PS4, so they had a reason to be signed in on that. But they were only playing a game on the PS3, so there was no reason to be signed into the PSN. I know that I only sign in when I want to purchase and download something. All other times I'm signed out of it.

Shame that UK law doesn't offer the same. Downloads are still in legal limbo as noone has decided if they're a product or service yet, and the most useful of our consumer protection laws apply to products.
They should offer a refund under EU law. You have 14 days to change your mind about a purchase, and definitely so if you did not want or have not used said purchase.

The UK is still applicable under that.

I don't think these people should necessarily get a refund (using hardware for a product other than its intentional product), but I don't think Sony should just ignore the problem. It is silly and immature.

You guys do seem to have pretty kickass election campaigns

EDIT: to be on topic...

If the story is true, I don't think Sony could have predicted accidental purchasing any more than the consumer did.
But it would be nice if Sony gave them refund. If I accidentally purchased something, I would like to know I have a chance of getting refund.

That being said, I did think about buying PS4 controller (not console) and plugging it into PS3 just to see how much better it is than previous generation.
I guess I wont be doing that anytime soon.

Since the purchase was accidental then they consumer should be refunded... it just good practice if you want consumer loyalty. However why people are using a ps4 controller for a ps3 system is beyond me.

This is bullshit. DualShock 4 doesn't connect to the PS4 while it's plugged into something else than a PS4, and it can't connect to a PS3 without being plugged into it. Therefore this is impossible.

The problem is, this is absolutely unprovable. Everyone can now claim for a refund on literally anything you've bought out over the PSN and claim you didn't know the controller was controlling both.

Saying that, I expect these guys to get some sort of refund now it's hit the press
Doesn't it show up that you actually played the game? I mean there is no online DRM I know but if you play the game doesn't the PS4 record that with achievements and shit? I suppose it would not be to hard to whipe out the saves and I don't own a console. I'm just wondering is all.

That shows up but I think you could just play it offline and wipe your saves when you're done. Or I don't think Sony has the power to actually delete a game off your console, so you could ask for your refund and then play it afterwards. You just wouldn't be able to redownload if you delete it

Is the controller not smart enough to know that it has been pared with another device? The dualshock 3 can do this, if i pare it with the pc via bluetooth it will unpair from the PS3 even if the PS3 is turned on.

Even if i use it as a USB controller on PC it will unpair form the PS3 bluetooth

Like I said I don't own a console so not sure BUT if you buy a game then you don't automatically download/install right? So if they bought something but they didn't download it yet then sony could give a refund. If they can reproduce the problem for themselves. Offcourse if you also downloaded and installed it then you are F'ed for reasons that you summed up.

I can't remember the exact process, but if it doesn't start downloading it's like 2 button presses to start the download from the buy screen

I use my DS4 on PS3 for Dark Souls 2, Thumb Sticks feel more responsive and I get wrist ache less often with it. Other than that my original PS3 controller is years old and starting to wear down, so may as well use the DS4.

I don't know. I find this highly suspect. I once tried to have my PS3 and PS4 on at the same time to download PS+ games. And it didn't seem that I could. Maybe I need to set something up, but it seemed I couldn't be connected to PSN on both at the same time.

Due to that, I'm not certain that this actually happened. Which would explain Sony denying the refund.

If it actually happened, they deserve refunds. I'm just not certain that it actually happened.
why should these people get refunds? they used a ps4 controller on a ps3, i have an idea...use your ps3 controller, it's their own fault

OT: like i said above it's their own fault and they don't deserve refunds

The DS4 is not intended to be used with the PS3. Though it was acknowledged by Sony to be possible they make clear that it was never intended to do so and was not going to be supported. And now people are surprised when it does not work as they expected it to.

Welcome to rule 1 of technology: If you don't know what you are doing, stay in the lines set by the product manufacture.
